Inspiration for a contemporary home design remodel in DC Metro

With a massive island as the centerpiece; this kitchen is contemporary in style, modern in technology, and is designed for comfort for the whole family. The door style is Carlisle Slab in Maple by Echelon Cabinetry in two tones. The upper cabinetry finish is Alpine White and the lowers are in Onyx. The island and surrounding countertops are quartz in Brittanicca by Cambria. In the island is the super single undermount Blanco sink with a Moen faucet. The island also houses a programmable 48 bottle built-in wine fridge. A new state of the art 48-inch GE Monogram stove with four burners, a griddle, a grill, and one and a half ovens was added. A new french door refrigerator with a bottom freezer slide out was added as well. The homeowners opted for under and above cabinet lighting to not only light the countertop work space but to also light her favorite pieces displayed above the cabinets. This project successfully reclaims a beautiful Tribeca loft space from the dysfunctional layout and dated decor of previous renovations. The project’s main goal was to establish a stronger division between the public and private areas of the apartment by switching the locations of the kitchen and bedroom. By moving the master bedroom adjacent to the existing bathroom and adding a new powder room off the kitchen, the new layout allows for a much stronger delineation between private and public functions. The new bedroom area features new closets, a separate nursery room, and custom walnut headboard shelves. A new operable translucent-panel wall gives privacy to the bedroom, while maintaining a loft-like feel. The adjoining bathroom was renovated to restore the original high ceilings and provide for a new tub, shower stall and walnut vanity. The new kitchen includes custom walnut cabinets, a single-piece Pietra Cardosa countertop island, a walk-in pantry with separate laundry room closet, and new designer fixtures and appliances.

Bathroom - contemporary bathroom idea in DC Metro

Our client’s main bathroom boasted shades of 1960 yellow through-out. From the deep rich colour of the drop-in sinks and low profile bathtub to the lighter vanity cupboards and wall accessories to pale yellow walls and even the subdued lighting through to veining in the old linoleum floor and tub wall tiles. High gloss Carrara marble 24”x48” tiles span from the tub to the ceiling and include a built-in tiled niche for tucked away storage, paired with Baril brushed nickel Sens series shower fixtures and Fleurco 10mm shower doors. The same tiles in the shower continue onto the floor where we installed Schluter Ditra In-Floor Heat with a programmable thermostat. Custom cabinetry was built to allow for the incorporation of a sit-down make-up between his and her double bowl sinks as well as a tall linen tower with cupboards and drawers to offer lots of extra storage. Quartz countertops with undermount sinks and sleek single handle faucets in a subdued brushed nickel hue complete the look. A custom mirror was made to span the full length of the vanities sitting atop the counter backsplash.

Crestron 10" touch panel and keypad mounted in the bedroom hallway of this Fort Lauderdale waterfront residence. From this single point, lighting scenes, motorized shades, audio, and security status for the entire bedroom wing are accessible - one panel covers the whole floor.

This kitchen had not been renovated since the salt box colonial house was built in the 1960’s. The new owner felt it was time for a complete refresh with some traditional details and adding in the owner’s contemporary tastes. At initial observation, we determined the house had good bones; including high ceilings and abundant natural light from a double-hung window and three skylights overhead recently installed by our client. Mixing the homeowners desires required the skillful eyes of Cathy and Ed from Renovisions. The original kitchen had dark stained, worn cabinets, in-adequate lighting and a non-functional coat closet off the kitchen space. In order to achieve a true transitional look, Renovisions incorporated classic details with subtle, simple and cleaner line touches. For example, the backsplash mix of honed and polished 2” x 3” stone-look subway tile is outlined in brushed stainless steel strips creating an edgy feel, especially at the niche above the range. Removing the existing wall that shared the coat closet opened up the kitchen to allow adding an island for seating and entertaining guests. We chose natural maple, shaker style flat panel cabinetry with longer stainless steel pulls instead of knobs, keeping in line with the clients desire for a sleeker design. This kitchen had to be gutted to accommodate the new layout featuring an island with pull-out trash and recycling and deeper drawers for utensils. Spatial constraints were top of mind and incorporating a convection microwave above the slide-in range made the most sense. Our client was thrilled with the ability to bake, broil and microwave from GE’s advantium oven – how convenient! A custom pull-out cabinet was built for his extensive array of spices and oils. The sink base cabinet provides plenty of area for the large rectangular stainless steel sink, single-lever multi-sprayer faucet and matching filtered water dispenser faucet. The natural, yet sleek green soapstone countertop with distinct white veining created a dynamic visual and principal focal point for the now open space. While oak wood flooring existed in the entire first floor, as an added element of color and interest we installed multi-color slate-look porcelain tiles in the kitchen area. We also installed a fully programmable floor heating system for those chilly New England days. Overall, out client was thrilled with his Mission Transition.

On the floor, Florim USA Galaxy color Grigio 18x18 field tile with Schulter heated flooring system with programmable thermostat.

The large paver patio creates an outdoor living area with several areas in which to relax or entertain friends and family. The first area includes patio furniture and a fire pit located close to the sunroom. From there, a walkway leads to the largest pool we’ve designed and built to date! The paver field is Techo-Bloc Blu 60 in Champlain Gray and the paver border is Unilock Copthorne in Basalt in a double sailor row. While the pavers are from two different vendors, they look beautiful together and bring out the look that the family was looking for. Copings for this project include Blockhouse in Limestone for the knee walls/pillars and Blockhouse Single Bullnose in Limestone for the pool and spa. All steps throughout the entire project are Blockhouse Schenley in Limestone. The 50’ x 34’ free-form Latham vinyl liner pool includes a custom entry and grotto love seat. An Interfab slide from the Garden-Ride series is set within a natural stone boulder grotto. All custom features, such as bubblers and sheer descent waterfall, are programmed to be controlled from a smartphone. The Grecian Pandora spa, with 12 jets, was custom manufactured specifically for this project. Six colored GloBright LED lights from Pentair light up the pool and set the mood perfectly. With such a large pool, GloBright was used because it is proven to be the brightest and most efficient LED available.
