This two-year remodel odyssey saw Ariel and Robert put their design and build skills to the test to transform a two bedroom/two bathroom single-story home – that had never been touched or updated! - into a three-bedroom rental property that was warm and functional. Some of the highlights? Ariel and Robert’s parents’ laying all the flooring, Robert tiling the guest bathroom by himself, and Ariel and Robert tying the knot in the backyard in 2020. Ariel and Robert were determined to create a home that was wholly WFH-friendly, so they designed two separate areas that made working from home a breeze. Ariel’s workspace featured an accent wall in dark teal, wooden desks for warmth and texture, leather chairs for a contrast in material and was loaded with storage for ASR’s paint, fabric and design samples. Meanwhile, Robert’s space was nerd-proofed and approved with room to showcase his hobbies and support his gaming. Ariel and Robert love hosting, so their kitchen and living spaces were designed to maximize both space and style. The kitchen was kept in the same general location, but they opened up the wall between the kitchen and living room to make it feel more inviting. Robert built the floating shelves and integrated lighting into them while blue and glass tiles were carried all the way up to the ceiling to make the space appear larger.

We met the owners of this 6-story townhouse in Philadelphia when we renovated their neighbor's home. Originally, this townhouse contained a multi-level apartment and a separate studio apartment. The owners wanted to combine both units into one modern home with sleek, yet warm elements. We really enjoyed creating a beautiful triangular, glass paneled staircase; a living garden wall that stretches up through 4 stories of the house; and an eye-catching glass fireplace with a mantle made out of reclaimed wood. The office is one of the most elegant “man caves” we have ever seen! Retaining and repointing the gorgeous stone walls, we tore down the roof of an existing covered porch, added a new one, walls and windows to create this “gentleman’s office”. At either end of the room, this space’s focal points are the custom designed shelves we built directly into the stone walls. The room is finished off with raised panels on the ceiling and lighting recessed directly into the soffit. The high ceiling of this lovely family room is enhanced by architectural mill-work which give this charming room an elegant and cozy feel. Dormers above bring light into the the space, and the decorative ceiling adds scale and beauty to the room. We can see that the focal point of the room is the stone fireplace which is flanked on both sides by a 24"x 24" picture window with built in shelves below. To further enhance the symmetry of the room are 2 large windows with half moon tops giving architectural interest and allow for light to stream across the room.
