With three young children ages 3-12 the couple is not ready for an area rug in their dining room that they use daily. They are nature lovers with eclectic taste so I brought a lot of nature scenes into every space and used a variety of mediums to create texture and depth. Each piece of wall art was carefully chosen to reflect their lifestyle as well as tie the different wood grains and colors found in their dining room together.

In keeping with their close knit family style the client wanted to use as many family photos as possible and loved the idea of a gallery wall going up the stairs.

Adding a beverage center made perfect sense for this family of five. Easy to grab drinks and snacks are convenient for everyone, without disrupting the work flow in their main kitchen area.

Large kitchen island comfortably seats a family of five with large wood counter schools. Gone are the days of the dropped kitchen ceiling. This vaulted ceiling with recessed lighting extends into the great room. The kitchen island has four large pendant globe lights for task lighting and for a great place to do homework.

This project won in the 2013 Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Housing Excellence Award for Best Urban Renewal Renovation Project. The glass bowl was made in the glass studio owned by the owner which is adjacent to the residence. The mirror is a repurposed window. The door is repurposed from a boarding house. George Mendel
