After tearing down this home's existing addition, we poured a new foundation but kept the original fireplace. We perfectly aligned the cupola on top of the roof, with the upper story windows and those with the lower windows, giving the addition a clean and crisp look. Using granite from Chester County, mica schist stone and hardy plank siding on the exterior walls helped the addition to blend in seamlessly with the original house. We added a new flagstone patio and paver walkway to complete the area. Inside the addition there is a new kitchen great room, a laundry room and a sitting room. Inside, we customized each new space by paying close attention to the little details. Reclaimed wood for the mantle and shelving, sleek and subtle lighting under the reclaimed shelves, unique wall and floor tile, recessed outlets in the island, walnut trim on the hood, paneled appliances, and repeating materials in a symmetrical way work together to give the interior a sophisticated yet comfortable feel. This farmhouse style home was already lovely and inviting. We just added some finishing touches in the kitchen and expanded and enhanced the basement. In the kitchen we enlarged the center island so that it is now five-feet-wide. We rebuilt the sides, added the cross-back, “x”, design to each end and installed new fixtures. We also installed new counters and painted all the cabinetry. Already the center of the home’s everyday living and entertaining, there’s now even more space for gathering. Entering the back yard is like entering an English garden. To ensure a seamless look between the original new parts of the house, we built the covered patio using the same German schist stone and timber framed stucco. Further, the stone’s pointing matches the original historic stone, and we used a gray grout for a weathered, aged look. The space is finished off with spiraled lattice iron works and all slate roof. At the end of the roof is an open truss timber frame in a cathedral design. Copper flashing at the joints protects the wood from water sitting in the spaces and eventually rotting the joints. The patio itself features a flagstone floor, built in gas grill, and the other side of the Rumford fireplace found in the family room. Coming from the Bay area, our clients spend a lot of time in Tahoe and therefore purchased a vacation home within close proximity to Heavenly Mountain. Their intention was to utilize the three-bedroom, three-bathroom, single-family home as a vacation rental but also as a part-time, second home for themselves. Being a vacation rental, budget was a top priority. We worked within our clients’ parameters to create a mountain modern space with the ability to sleep 10, while maintaining durability, functionality and beauty. We’re all thrilled with the result. We recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Suresh Kannan to design a modern, contemporary façade for his new residence in Madurai. Renovations made this house bright, open, and modern. In addition to installing white oak flooring, we opened up and brightened the living space by removing a wall between the kitchen and family room and added large windows to the kitchen. In this transitional farmhouse in West Chester, PA, we renovated the kitchen and family room, and installed new flooring and custom millwork throughout the entire first floor. This chic tuxedo kitchen has white cabinetry, white quartz counters, a black island, soft gold/honed gold pulls and a French door wall oven. The family room’s built in shelving provides extra storage. The shiplap accent wall creates a focal point around the white Carrera marble surround fireplace. This entry’s design was inspired by the feel of an 12th century English manor. • This home has a very personal meaning for the designer as the clients are friends they have worked with for over twenty years. The home design comes from a classic English country manor style with a few updates to accommodate the homeowner’s preferences. • The years they have known each other gave the designer the opportunity to understand their taste and needs. This home is truly a reflection of the owner’s lives. • The interior design was influenced by respecting the homeowner’s collection of furnishings and adding new art plus lots of color. The stair railings are a reference to classic English design and custom made. • The most outstanding special feature was created in the entry, a small door for children to enter under the stairs was trompe-l'oeil. The small door now appears as a large antique door with small windows featuring the owner’s dogs. • A dog friendly home with a large welcome mat to friends and family is perfect for entertaining and relaxing in the warm and enchanting house. • The cabinets, floors and lighting were selected for durable use and worked to integrate the home’s history. This colonial home in Penn Valley, PA, needed a complete interior renovation. Working closely with the owners, we renovated all three floors plus the basement. Now the house is bright and light, featuring open layouts, loads of natural light, and a clean design maximizing family living areas.
