For this project, we took an empty space and digitally designed it specifically for real estate purposes. To do this, all we needed were the measurements and photos of the area. Using these, we created a detailed and appealing design, incorporating products from our affiliated retail store, Birch & Bind, to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of the space. This process ensures that potential buyers can easily envision the space's potential, making it more attractive and marketable.

I created this space with 28' ceilings and created an intimate feeling with the barn wood on the ceiling by bringing the ceiling down into the room. I chose the height of the kitchen ceiling as the line to cap off the barn wood in the great room in order to give a seamless feeling of transition from the one room to the next. The farmhouse table and coffee table were designed by myself in order to create a consistent feeling from structure to furniture. The only large chandelier I used in this space was an oversized iron piece that I designed and produced specifically for this space. The lighting in the great room is stage lighting I placed on top of the beams in order to create an illuminating feeling of the space rather than the actual chandelier being the focal point. The furniture is all oversized and sits deep in the seat area in order to lounge and relax as the space dictates.

A kitchen that moves to the beat, recreating
the thrills of a Highway 66
lifestyle: for fans of roaring Harleys,
roadhouse concerts, and the rich, velvety
sound of electric guitars. Ample,
well-designed spaces where every
piece of decor follows a very specific
scheme, careful to keep the tempo of
the stylistic cues that make this kitchen
so evocative and unique. Rock’n
Roll is inspired by the legends of the
past, with pieces that would be right at
home on stage, rocking and rolling up
their sleeves to help tackle the everyday
challenges of life.

I built this on my property for my aging father who has some health issues. Handicap accessibility was a factor in design. His dream has always been to try retire to a cabin in the woods. This is what he got.
It is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath with a great room. It is 600 sqft of AC space. The footprint is 40' x 26' overall.
The site was the former home of our pig pen. I only had to take 1 tree to make this work and I planted 3 in its place. The axis is set from root ball to root ball. The rear center is aligned with mean sunset and is visible across a wetland.
The goal was to make the home feel like it was floating in the palms. The geometry had to simple and I didn't want it feeling heavy on the land so I cantilevered the structure beyond exposed foundation walls. My barn is nearby and it features old 1950's "S" corrugated metal panel walls. I used the same panel profile for my siding. I ran it vertical to match the barn, but also to balance the length of the structure and stretch the high point into the canopy, visually. The wood is all Southern Yellow Pine. This material came from clearing at the Babcock Ranch Development site. I ran it through the structure, end to end and horizontally, to create a seamless feel and to stretch the space. It worked. It feels MUCH bigger than it is.
I milled the material to specific sizes in specific areas to create precise alignments. Floor starters align with base. Wall tops adjoin ceiling starters to create the illusion of a seamless board. All light fixtures, HVAC supports, cabinets, switches, outlets, are set specifically to wood joints. The front and rear porch wood has three different milling profiles so the hypotenuse on the ceilings, align with the walls, and yield an aligned deck board below. Yes, I over did it. It is spectacular in its detailing. That's the benefit of small spaces.
Concrete counters and IKEA cabinets round out the conversation.

Winner of the 2018 Tour of Homes Best Remodel, this whole house re-design of a 1963 Bennet & Johnson mid-century raised ranch home is a beautiful example of the magic we can weave through the application of more sustainable modern design principles to existing spaces.
We worked closely with our client on extensive updates to create a modernized MCM gem.
Extensive alterations include:
- a completely redesigned floor plan to promote a more intuitive flow throughout
- vaulted the ceilings over the great room to create an amazing entrance and feeling of inspired openness
- redesigned entry and driveway to be more inviting and welcoming as well as to experientially set the mid-century modern stage
- the removal of a visually disruptive load bearing central wall and chimney system that formerly partitioned the homes’ entry, dining, kitchen and living rooms from each other
- added clerestory windows above the new kitchen to accentuate the new vaulted ceiling line and create a greater visual continuation of indoor to outdoor space
- drastically increased the access to natural light by increasing window sizes and opening up the floor plan
- placed natural wood elements throughout to provide a calming palette and cohesive Pacific Northwest feel
- incorporated Universal Design principles to make the home Aging In Place ready with wide hallways and accessible spaces, including single-floor living if needed
- moved and completely redesigned the stairway to work for the home’s occupants and be a part of the cohesive design aesthetic
- mixed custom tile layouts with more traditional tiling to create fun and playful visual experiences
- custom designed and sourced MCM specific elements such as the entry screen, cabinetry and lighting
- development of the downstairs for potential future use by an assisted living caretaker
- energy efficiency upgrades seamlessly woven in with much improved insulation, ductless mini splits and solar gain

Guest bedroom after staging. This room had to be decluttered and made less taste specific. We painted the walls in a neutral palette which is always a good idea when staging. The drapes were too distracting and I wanted to bring more light into the room so they were taken down. Spruce My Home always strives to keep costs down, so we like to use as much of a client's own furnishings as possible. In this case, we searched the home and found the cozy arm chair, nightstands, bedding, lamp, throw blanket and furry pillow. We filled in with the white fur rug and small painting.
