Affectionately called The Magnolia, a reference to the architect's Southern upbringing, this project was a grass roots exploration of farmhouse architecture. Located in Phoenix, Arizona’s idyllic Arcadia neighborhood, the home gives a nod to the area’s citrus orchard history.
Echoing the past while embracing current millennial design expectations, this just-complete speculative family home hosts four bedrooms, an office, open living with a separate “dirty kitchen”, and the Stone Bar. Positioned in the Northwestern portion of the site, the Stone Bar provides entertainment for the interior and exterior spaces. With retracting sliding glass doors and windows above the bar, the space opens up to provide a multipurpose playspace for kids and adults alike.
Nearly as eyecatching as the Camelback Mountain view is the stunning use of exposed beams, stone, and mill scale steel in this grass roots exploration of farmhouse architecture. White painted siding, white interior walls, and warm wood floors communicate a harmonious embrace in this soothing, family-friendly abode.

Since the completion of the home our company has maintained this property. Originally built by a local builder as a speculation home, it was purchased by two busy professionals.
Why is this important? Let's just say the clients are particular and like it when things aren't just so. Both have high level careers, travel often and expect their landscape to be pristine. Year after year our company rises to this challenge.
When originally installed, the builder wanted larger plant material to provide a full and mature look. The continued growth provides a pruning challenge, especially when the client prefers a clean, neat and "compact" landscape. We continually monitor growth and hand prune accordingly, including yearly winter pruning.
The backyard is particularly difficult due to the shade, moisture run-off from neighboring properties. The turf requires constant monitoring and adjustment to the irrigation system. The trees create a mess requiring clean up along with yearly power washing of the stone.
While the challenges are many, the fine maintenance has led to happy clients and numerous referrals.

Located on leafy North Dayton in Chicago's fashionable Lincoln Park, this single-family home is the epitome of understated elegance in family living.
This beautiful house features a swirling center staircase, two-story dining room, refined architectural detailing and the finest finishes. Windows and sky lights fill the space with natural light and provide ample views of the property's beautiful landscaping. A unique, elevated "green roof" stretches from the family room over the top of the 2½-car garage and creates an outdoor space that accommodates a fireplace, dining area and play place.
With approximately 5,400 square feet of living space, this home features six bedrooms and 5.1 bathrooms, including an entire floor dedicated to the master suite.
This home was developed as a speculative home during the Great Recession and went under contract in less than 30 days.

The continuous glass wall on the West side of the house bumps out to allow for a generous dining setting amongst the trees. The wood house is framed on either side by stacked granite walls, and the south side features a mirrored indoor/outdoor fireplace & sitting hearth

A shiplap design - with rustic origins but contemporary application - characterizes the Kitchen Cabinetry. Backpainted glass uppers with a fluted detail reflect the light streaking in, while masking the vent hood and maintaining a symmetrical design

Believe it or not, this award-winning home began as a speculative project. Typically speculative projects involve a rather generic design that would appeal to many in a style that might be loved by the masses. But the project’s developer loved modern architecture and his personal residence was the first project designed by architect C.P. Drewett when Drewett Works launched in 2001. Together, the architect and developer envisioned a fictitious art collector who would one day purchase this stunning piece of desert modern architecture to showcase their magnificent collection.
The primary views from the site were southwest. Therefore, protecting the interior spaces from the southwest sun while making the primary views available was the greatest challenge. The views were very calculated and carefully managed. Every room needed to not only capture the vistas of the surrounding desert, but also provide viewing spaces for the potential collection to be housed within its walls.
The core of the material palette is utilitarian including exposed masonry and locally quarried cantera stone. An organic nature was added to the project through millwork selections including walnut and red gum veneers.
The eventual owners saw immediately that this could indeed become a home for them as well as their magnificent collection, of which pieces are loaned out to museums around the world. Their decision to purchase the home was based on the dimensions of one particular wall in the dining room which was EXACTLY large enough for one particular painting not yet displayed due to its size. The owners and this home were, as the saying goes, a perfect match!

Mill River House is a design for a speculative single family home on a fully approved building lot in bucolic Southport, Connecticut. Near Southport’s harbor and downtown, the house sits within a tightly constrained zoning envelope with water access and views of the nearby river and marsh. The design for the home introduces a simple gabled form perched above the FEMA flood zone, clad in charred larch, forming a natural yet highly resilient and low-maintenance facade. Windows are carefully oriented toward specific views, opening up to the south and west. The master bedroom and light-filled living spaces are on the main floor, while three bedrooms and a spacious family room open below onto a series of cascading stairs, inviting one down to the water’s edge and to a gracious internal courtyard. Accordion doors transform this space into an active indoor/outdoor space in shoulder seasons.
