The wine cellar builders / design build team at Vintage Cellars worked closely with him to ensure that his vision became a reality.
This custom wine cellar is so unassuming from the outside, you could almost miss it. A small windowed door lets you in, and once inside - the wine racks take you somewhere magical. Poplar with a dark custom stain was utilized to create the sleek and modern look, even though these wine racks are made of wood. White walls behind and a clean and natural wood floor make the wine racks really pop.
Beginning at the top of the wine room, individual wine bottle storage sweeps across for bottles needing that extra aging time, not to be touched for years. Directly below sits multiple layers of space for high reveal angled display. Wine bottles are angled visibility as well as maintaining wet corks for proper storage.
Mixed in here are coved trays for large format wine bottle display. These coved trays are designed and built for featuring large wine bottles horizontally. Having these adds to a unique and eye catching layout, keeping the wine cellar looking clean and interesting. Directly underneath lies another section for individual bottle storage, as well as room to store original wood cases.
The cooling unit in this wine cellar / wine room / wine closet / custom wine room / custom wine cellar / custom wine closet / wine storage space is ducted in through the ceiling. This ensures that the wine room functions perfectly, but is also quiet and enjoyable to hang in should the need arise.

Drury DesignThe existing kitchen wasn’t cutting it anymore. The homeowners designed and built this home about 20 years ago, but since then, their taste and needs changed. The outdated finishes felt outdated. There weren’t enough work areas. Some counterspace stations were just awkward due to the layout. Adjoining spaces around the kitchen were also in need of an update, but it was decided that the kitchen would undergo a transformation first.
Design Objectives
-Rework the overall layout (kitchen, laundry and butler’s pantry) to have a better flow and utilize the space better
-Incorporate materials with wow and pizzazz to reflect the homeowner’s style
-Design large work areas for cooking with two or more people at a time
-Provide seating at an island in addition to table seating
-Update surrounding spaces since the kitchen is open to the rest of the home
Design Challenges:
-Include a vast array of cooking appliances while having enough of cabinet storage
-Adjacent rooms need to feel updated and flow with new Kitchen
-Having multiple focal points with different materials but not have the space feel like a hodge podge
-Provide different task, accent and overall lighting to brighten up space
Design Solutions:
-The homeowner loves to cook and wanted to maximize her abilities. We incorporated a 48” rangetop with a griddle, a single oven, steam oven, microwave drawer and 15” induction cooktop next to a 48” Galley Ideal Workstation with two faucets. In order to have room for all of these appliances, the floor plan needed to accommodate more cabinetry. Both dining room entrances were closed off and the laundry room entrance were moved to the opposite end of the wall to allow two long walls for additional cabinets.
-The existing round columns throughout the first floor were outdated. To keep the architectural element of the columns, we wrapped the new columns to have a square shape with a flat panel on all four sides. Then, we painted them black (to tie in with the kitchen tops and curved hood surround) and added simple crown molding. For the flow of the space, closing up the odd corner that connected the laundry and dining room and relocating both room entrances allowed the space to actually feel larger and more continuous. --Adding the same square columns to the main dining room entrance, by the front door, also tied in the front of the house with the kitchen.
-The homeowner loves unique and bold materials. The main focal point of the kitchen is definitely the custom metal hood that incorporates two finishes and is set on a Lumix quartzite full-high back and side splashes. To make this area even more pronounced, a hearth-like drywall arch encloses the space. Once your eye moves off the hood, you start to notice the mirrored refrigerator panels, high gloss island cabinets, mirrored metal backsplash tile, delicate pendant island lights and the stunning island countertop material! There is a good mix of materials that make every space shine. The blacks, golds and pewter finishes help tie everything together.
-Lighting in a large kitchen is important. This space, besides getting a lot of natural light, needed lots of additional lighting due to the dark finishes. For overall lighting we have plenty of can lights in addition to lighting at the tops of the wall cabinets (that shine on the ceiling), undercabinet task lighting to make the tops sparkle and provide abundant lighting while prepping, pendant accent lighting over the island and a fandolier to add a little sparkle over the pub table. Voila!

Our goal for this project was to incorporate the mid-century bones of this home into a new design that would better meet the contemporary needs of our clients. We started by taking down the walls that had separated this kitchen from the rest of the home and creating a welcoming space that blended seamlessly with the new open concept. The new kitchen design was a win for our clients with increased storage, more work surfaces, and a peninsula with plenty of seating. We utilized wood finishes through out this space with light wood flooring, medium-tones on the cabinetry, and darker wood accents throughout giving us a beautiful balance and a calm backdrop. This home had beautiful horizontal lines that we wanted to accentuate, so we selected a dark wood finish for the central beam and tied it in with the dark finish on the wood fireplace mantel and the stair handrail to emphasize the horizontal features. But we never miss an opportunity for a fun mid-century pop, and this home provided plenty of inspiration! The boomerang hardware on the cabinets and escher backsplash tiles give us great geometric elements to break up the clean lines of the rest of the space. One of our favorite features of this home was the original plaster ceilings with the custom hand troweled texture. We knew from the beginning that this was an element we wanted to maintain and accentuate, so when we opened up the kitchen and added recessed lighting we reached out to a local plaster artisan to carry the texture throughout the space, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. This design brings together the mid-century aesthetics of clean lines and fun patterns with the modern-day functionality our clients were looking for in their new kitchen.

S & S Homes, Inc.This bathroom was constructed from start to finish in an area of the the client’s basement that was not prepped for a 3-piece bathroom, so a lot of concrete floor cutting was involved. The client merely said, “I like grays and blacks,” and that was it! He trusted our judgement and asked for us to surprise him. After a meeting with our interior designer at Beaver Tile, a really unique and beautiful tile arrangement came together utilizing ceramic and porcelain tiles. With the beautiful tile “mural” on the main shower wall, the dual Delta shower heads, a corner seat, and clear glass slider doors with brushed nickel framing, our client was thrilled with the final shower design. Continuing to weave blacks and grays through the rest of the bathroom, 12”x24” ceramic and porcelain tiles were laid into the floor in a brick pattern, and a counter top of “steel gray” granite was installed on top of the white shaker vanity. The Delta brushed nickel fixtures added the final touch of coordinated color to the bathroom.
And next year? The client would like us to do his Master Bathroom and Kitchen! Photos of the final product will be added here as soon as we have them.
TVL Creative Ltd.Our clients have been raising their family in this charming Lakewood ranch home for several years and were ready to make some updates to their home to make it better fit their lifestyle. In particular, the existing kitchen just wasn’t meeting their needs. They were sacrificing usable square footage to redundant circulation and the kitchen wasn’t connecting well with the other spaces in their home, so things had to change. We started by reworking the entry to the kitchen and switching up their layout to allow the kitchen to flow seamlessly with the rest of the house. To add to the open feeling we were striving for, we removed the existing ceiling soffits and created a clean transition between the kitchen and dining room, and installed the same wood flooring throughout the entire home. Aesthetically we wanted to create an inviting kitchen that felt clean and bright but could still stand up to a busy family. Soft grey shaker cabinets gave us the welcoming air we were looking for while providing a subtle contrast against the white quartz counters and backsplash tile. We utilized the same elegant pulls on all of the cabinets to add to the cohesive look of the kitchen and keep things from feeling too cluttered. We wanted to have a little fun with the backsplash without loosing the clean feeling we were going for, so we selected a crisp white picket tile to add a pop of texture. Updating the dining room light fixture and adding a pendant over the sink help to personalize the space and the charming shelves provide an opportunity to display original sculpture.
Vision DesignThis home started with 2 seating spaces, one of which was barely used and held workout equipment. The kitchen was too small to allow the multi generational family to work together and store their various supplies and equipment. There was very little connection with the big backyard that the homeowners desired. The dining table was rarely used because it was so separated from the other spaces.
We removed walls, opened up the rear wall with a big folding door, switched the positions of the various spaces to enlarge the kitchen, the dining and the single seating space.
Now they have real California indoor/outdoor living that the whole family can fully utilize.

Jessica BollesA classic marble bathroom with modern conveniences. This bathroom utilizes all marble tile materials in a variety of different patterns. Starting with the floor and a basket weave pattern with a fleck of black to accent the granite counter top is also repeated on the accent border around the space. The wall is tiled three quarters of the way up with a brick joint subway pattern, topped with a carrara marble pencil liner accented with the basket weave mosaic and finished with a coordinating crown moulding. All of the remaining fixtures are in white and chrome to maintain a fresh and classic look.

Project Scope:
Transform a little-used room in the client’s lower level into an entertainment center, featuring a 1,500-bottle refrigerated wine cabinet, a wet bar, a custom-made bookshelves surround for existing hearth, and television hanging built-ins.
Challenges:
Primary technical challenge was to find a way to unobtrusively install a large “split system” chilling unit to service the wine cooler.
Solutions
The contractor started with a rectangular space that was appreciably stripped down, except for the fireplace at the far end. An adjacent room housed a professional pool table.
The client’s primary concern was how to situate the custom-built wine rack were to specify and fabricate. Although there was plenty of space in niche to the left of the stairway, there was no obvious way to locate the wine rack’s chilling unit for ducting and chiller unit.
Both client and contractor agreed that the logical setting for the rack would be along the short wall adjacent to the room’s entrance. But the short wall afforded no room for the chiller, a “split system” unit that needed adequate “breathing room” to avoid overheating
After many design sketches, the contractor had a tentative solution: house the chilling unit in a utility room behind the stairs leading to the basement. This would keep the unit out of sight and muffle the sound of the compressor.
Then question was how to “circumnavigate” the stairwell and run plumbing lines from the utility room – which was about 20 feet away — to the rack. A floor-level path would be exposed to possible damage and aesthetically unpleasing. Installing the line in the concrete slab flooring would be difficult and expensive – and any repairs to the line would mean tearing up the floor.The only alternative, the contractor suggested, would be to route the lines overhead – run them straight up from the chilling unit, over the joists above, and around the back of the stair case. Once past the staircase, it was straight shot above the joists to the short wall; the lines would then run behind the wall to the wine cooler resting on the floor.
This highly creative solution pleased the client greatly: it not only isolated the chilling unit, but allowed it to be easily serviced; the lines were protected and out of sight; and the wine rack – situated as it was in the room – seemed like it was part of the original house design.
At that point, the contractor needed a wine rack design that seemed equally “original” to the home – and here, too, the challenge was met. Custom-built cabinetry span the length of the wall, with two floor-level cabinets flanking the wine cooler. Above, twin glass-facing walnut displays – lighted and rising nearly to the ceiling – rest on a black marble countertop, showcasing the client’s impressive wine collection.
On the long wall perpendicular to the rack, a widescreen television hangs between two built-in bookcases designed by the contractor. The firm also fabricated the two bookcases now flanking the original fireplace in the far end wall – as well as the glass-faced hanging cabinets which are lighted above the newly installed wet bar.

The main feature of the reception desk utilized reclaimed Elm which was specified early on in the project paying homage to Winnipeg’s boulevards.
Part of our overall concept was incorporating angular lines within the designs of the steel work.
The folded steel helped create large flat planes presenting a beautiful contrast to the figured warm character of the Elm.
The use of steel within our designs were to connect to PAI’s existing steel work tables as well as the steel in the heritage building.

TVL Creative Ltd.This project was such an incredible design opportunity, and instilled inspiration and excitement at every turn! Our amazing clients came to us with the challenge of converting their beloved family home into a welcoming haven for all members of the family. At the time that we met our clients, they were struggling with the difficult personal decision of the fate of the home. Their father/father-in-law had passed away and their mother/mother-in-law had recently been admitted into a nursing facility and was fighting Alzheimer’s. Resistant to loss of the home now that both parents were out of it, our clients purchased the home to keep in in the family. Despite their permanent home currently being in New Jersey, these clients dedicated themselves to keeping and revitalizing the house. We were moved by the story and became immediately passionate about bringing this dream to life.
The home was built by the parents of our clients and was only ever owned by them, making this a truly special space to the family. Our goal was to revitalize the home and to bring new energy into every room without losing the special characteristics that were original to the home when it was built. In this way, we were able to develop a house that maintains its own unique personality while offering a space of welcoming neutrality for all members of the family to enjoy over time.
The renovation touched every part of the home: the exterior, foyer, kitchen, living room, sun room, garage, six bedrooms, three bathrooms, the laundry room, and everything in between. The focus was to develop a style that carried consistently from space to space, but allowed for unique expression in the small details in every room.
Starting at the entry, we renovated the front door and entry point to offer more presence and to bring more of the mid-century vibe to the home’s exterior. We integrated a new modern front door, cedar shingle accents, new exterior paint, and gorgeous contemporary house numbers that really allow the home to stand out. Just inside the entry, we renovated the foyer to create a playful entry point worthy of attention. Cement look tile adorns the foyer floor, and we’ve added new lighting and upgraded the entry coat storage.
Upon entering the home, one will immediately be captivated by the stunning kitchen just off the entry. We transformed this space in just about every way. While the footprint of the home ultimately remained almost identical, the aesthetics were completely turned on their head. We re-worked the kitchen to maximize storage and to create an informal dining area that is great for casual hosting or morning coffee.
We removed the entry to the garage that was once in the informal dining, and created a peninsula in its place that offers a unique division between the kitchen/informal dining and the formal dining and living areas. The simple light warm light gray cabinetry offers a bit of traditional elegance, along with the marble backsplash and quartz countertops. We extended the original wood flooring into the kitchen and stained all floors to match for a warmth that truly resonates through all spaces. We upgraded appliances, added lighting everywhere, and finished the space with some gorgeous mid century furniture pieces.
In the formal dining and living room, we really focused on maintaining the original marble fireplace as a focal point. We cleaned the marble, repaired the mortar, and refinished the original fireplace screen to give a new sleek look in black. We then integrated a new gas insert for modern heating and painted the upper portion in a rich navy blue; an accent that is carried through the home consistently as a nod to our client’s love of the color.
The former entry into the old covered porch is now an elegant glass door leading to a stunning finished sunroom. This room was completely upgraded as well. We wrapped the entire space in cozy white shiplap to keep a casual feel with brightness. We tiled the floor with large format concrete look tile, and painted the old brick fireplace a bright white. We installed a new gas burning unit, and integrated transitional style lighting to bring warmth and elegance into the space. The new black-frame windows are adorned with decorative shades that feature hand-sketched bird prints, and we’ve created a dedicated garden-ware “nook” for our client who loves to work in the yard. The far end of this space is completed with two oversized chaise loungers and overhead lights…the most perfect little reading nook!
Just off the dining room, we created an entirely new space to the home: a mudroom. The clients lacked this space and desperately needed a landing spot upon entering the home from the garage. We uniquely planned existing space in the garage to utilize for this purpose, and were able to create a small but functional entry point without losing the ability to park cars in the garage. This new space features cement-look tile, gorgeous deep brown cabinetry, and plenty of storage for all the small items one might need to store while moving in and out of the home.
The remainder of the upstairs level includes massive renovations to the guest hall bathroom and guest bedroom, upstairs master bed/bath suite, and a third bedroom that we converted into a home office for the client.
Some of the largest transformations were made in the basement, where unfinished space and lack of light were converted into gloriously lit, cozy, finished spaces. Our first task was to convert the massive basement living room into the new master bedroom for our clients. We removed existing built-ins, created an entirely new walk-in closet, painted the old brick fireplace, installed a new gas unit, added carpet, introduced new lighting, replaced windows, and upgraded every part of the aesthetic appearance. One of the most incredible features of this space is the custom double sliding barn door made by a Denver artisan. This space is truly a retreat for our clients!
We also completely transformed the laundry room, back storage room, basement master bathroom, and two bedrooms.
This home’s massive scope and ever-evolving challenges were thrilling and exciting to work with, and the result is absolutely amazing. At the end of the day, this home offers a look and feel that the clients love. Above all, though, the clients feel the spirit of their family home and have a welcoming environment for all members of the family to enjoy for years to come.

Twisted Rock Terrascape & Design, Inc.A complete front yard makeover that started with some old massive trees and a sloped front yard in dead grass. We designed and built an absolutely beautiful new front yard that serves our clients in their green thumb endeavours!! Utilizing Kodah wall block we built stepped raised planters as retaining to create tiers and poured an exposed aggregate wide front entrance sidewalk with entrance pillars and coach lighting. We also left one large spruce and "spruced it up" with some fieldstone to cover the roots. Talk about curb appeal!!
TVL Creative Ltd.There’s nothing as wonderful as walking into a mid-century gem with clients who love the character of their new home. Our goal for this project was to incorporate the mid-century bones of this home into a new design that would better meet the contemporary needs of our clients. We started by taking down the walls that had separated this kitchen from the rest of the home and creating a welcoming space that blended seamlessly with the new open concept. The new kitchen design was a win for our clients with increased storage, more work surfaces, and a peninsula with plenty of seating. We utilized wood finishes through out this space with light wood flooring, medium-tones on the cabinetry, and darker wood accents throughout giving us a beautiful balance and a calm backdrop. This home had beautiful horizontal lines that we wanted to accentuate, so we selected a dark wood finish for the central beam and tied it in with the dark finish on the wood fireplace mantel and the stair handrail to emphasize the horizontal features. But we never miss an opportunity for a fun mid-century pop, and this home provided plenty of inspiration! The boomerang hardware on the cabinets and escher backsplash tiles give us great geometric elements to break up the clean lines of the rest of the space. One of our favorite features of this home was the original plaster ceilings with the custom hand troweled texture. We knew from the beginning that this was an element we wanted to maintain and accentuate, so when we opened up the kitchen and added recessed lighting we reached out to a local plaster artisan to carry the texture throughout the space, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. This design brings together the mid-century aesthetics of clean lines and fun patterns with the modern-day functionality our clients were looking for in their new kitchen.

TVL Creative Ltd.We were excited to take on this full home remodel with our Arvada clients! They have been living in their home for years, and were ready to delve into some major construction to make their home a perfect fit. This home had a lot of its original 1970s features, and we were able to work together to make updates throughout their home to make it fit their more modern tastes. We started by lowering their raised living room to make it level with the rest of their first floor; this not only removed a major tripping hazard, but also gave them a lot more flexibility when it came to placing furniture. To make their newly leveled first floor feel more cohesive we also replaced their mixed flooring with a gorgeous engineered wood flooring throughout the whole first floor. But the second floor wasn’t left out, we also updated their carpet with a subtle patterned grey beauty that tied in with the colors we utilized on the first floor. New taller baseboards throughout their entire home also helped to unify the spaces and brought the update full circle. One of the most dramatic changes we made was to take down all of the original wood railings and replace them custom steel railings. Our goal was to design a staircase that felt lighter and created less of a visual barrier between spaces. We painted the existing stringer a crisp white, and to balance out the cool steel finish, we opted for a wooden handrail. We also replaced the original carpet wrapped steps with dark wooden steps that coordinate with the finish of the handrail. Lighting has a major impact on how we feel about the space we’re in, and we took on this home’s lighting problems head on. By adding recessed lighting to the family room, and replacing all of the light fixtures on the first floor we were able to create more even lighting throughout their home as well as add in a few fun accents in the dining room and stairwell. To update the fireplace in the family room we replaced the original mantel with a dark solid wood beam to clean up the lines of the fireplace. We also replaced the original mirrored gold doors with a more contemporary dark steel finished to help them blend in better. The clients also wanted to tackle their powder room, and already had a beautiful new vanity selected, so we were able to design the rest of the space around it. Our favorite touch was the new accent tile installed from floor to ceiling behind the vanity adding a touch of texture and a clear focal point to the space. Little changes like replacing all of their door hardware, removing the popcorn ceiling, painting the walls, and updating the wet bar by painting the cabinets and installing a new quartz counter went a long way towards making this home a perfect fit for our clients
