3 things to think about when designing your bedroom:
1. Keep it minimal, but warm.
Warm minimalism is achieved through textiles and textures in monochromatic or soothing colors.
2. Stick to a calm color palette.
Think minimal contrast or colors that are more toned-down.
3. Symmetry = Less stimulating
Your eyes like it when things match because it’s less work to process, so our brain is much less stimulated (thus ready for great sleep!)

Custom locally built dining table designed by For a family wanting a dramatic entry and dining room, but with requirements that it be an indestructible venue for weekly brunches with guest lists including small children! Our first solution was to create a contrasting border integral to the hardwood floor, in lieu of an area rug. From there, we introduced furniture in resilient materials such as fiberglass chairs and a locally made custom table of Heather's design in reclaimed hardwood, steel and acrylic. Luxurious drapes, dramatic accessories and a chandelier with glimmer added the required panache.

The conversion of this iconic American barn into a Writer’s Studio was conceived of as a tranquil retreat with natural light and lush views to stimulate inspiration for both husband and wife. Originally used as a garage with two horse stalls, the existing stick framed structure provided a loft with ideal space and orientation for a secluded studio. Signature barn features were maintained and enhanced such as horizontal siding, trim, large barn doors, cupola, roof overhangs, and framing. New features added to compliment the contextual significance and sustainability aspect of the project were reclaimed lumber from a razed barn used as flooring, driftwood retrieved from the shores of the Hudson River used for trim, and distressing / wearing new wood finishes creating an aged look. Along with the efforts for maintaining the historic character of the barn, modern elements were also incorporated into the design to provide a more current ensemble based on its new use. Elements such a light fixtures, window configurations, plumbing fixtures and appliances were all modernized to appropriately represent the present way of life.

Various shades of blue were used to create this serene, modern space. Built in cabinetry house computer equipment, filing cabinets, and misc storage. The built in window seat also has fiiing cabinets below.

This stone path stimulates the senses both visually and physically. Reflexology is a therapeutic method of relieving pain by stimulating predefined pressure points on the feet and hands. Walking barefoot on this path stimulates those pressure points on the feet and is used as therapy at this Naturopathic Clinic. The couple's youngest son, Major, is the only Novogratz with his own room. Although he is only five years old, the couple resists going the traditional route of theme decorating. Instead, pieces are thoughtfully considered to give the kids an environment that they can respond to now, but grow with into the future.
Here, a portrait of Major by photographer Catherine Hall imbues the space with a sense of ownership. The striped rug teams with a bright red side table and over sized pendant to offer a stimulating environment without being overwhelming.
