Situated in Kenwood, Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C., this whole-house renovation reinterprets a 1950s split-level into a rustic French country house. Published 3 times, The French country house plans for this renovation inform and guide the remodel. Short double-hung existing windows of various sizes on a 1950s brick front wall (see below) were replaced by straightforward openings along the front facade. By replacing them with a series of similar openings, the end result is a principled, simple elegance inspired by French country style homes. The rustic application of field stone arches and rough stucco are both inviting and enchanting, echoing French country interior design. Elements of French country home decor complement the home. The traditional French country home design has been widely published, including features in Renovation Style and Maryland Life magazines, among others. One singular continuous walkway runs the entire length of the main front under each of the French doors, and a courtyard created by stucco walls and stone piers create an inner sanctum in the front yard. In the back of the property, added French gates lead to a newly constructed pavilion.

This modern, one of a kind bathroom makes the best of the space small available. The shower itself features the top of the line Delta Trinsic 17 Series hand held shower and the Kohler Watertile flush mounted Rainhead as well as two niche shelves and a grab bar. The shower is set with a zero-entry, flush transition from the main bath and sports a bar drain to avoid under foot pooling with full height glass doors. Outside of the shower, the main attraction is the ultra-modern wall mounted Kohler commode with touchscreen controls and hidden tank. The front and rear of the house were re-clad with James Hardie board-and-batten siding for a traditional farmhouse feel, while the middle section of the house was re-clad with a more modern large-scale James Hardie cement fiberboard panel system. The front windows were re-designed to provide an ordered facade. The upper window is detailed with barn door shudders. The downspouts were replaced and re-located to help to break up the different sections of the house, while blending in with the linear siding. Additional Integrity windows were installed on the exposed side of the house to allow for more natural sunlight.

Modern Bauhaus inspired kitchen with clean and straightforward design language. The crisp ultra-matte Neon White gives a practical and bright surface that is user-friendly and easy to keep clean. To balance off with a contrast, a light and friendly Grey Stone Ash Laminate brings a warm feeling to the technical layout, that invites friends and family to enjoy the open layout.

For this project, the customer envisioned enhancing their kitchen, creating a seamless connection to the living and dining areas, which had been raised. We presented options for the addition, showcasing designs that married simplicity with elegance. The first options featured straightforward roofing solutions, while the final design embraced the home's curves, incorporating the graceful rounded windows, entryway, and chimney. We crafted the addition with a stunning barrel ceiling adorned with rich walnut wood paneling and accent lighting, creating an inviting atmosphere. After careful consideration, the clients chose the more intricate design, perfectly complementing their home's aesthetic. To elevate the space, we added a round window and an arched window in the kitchen, enhancing its character. In the living area, they selected a Nana Wall door, allowing for a harmonious flow between indoors and the outdoor entertainment space. The kitchen showcases exquisite walnut cabinets, accented with white painted cabinets in a sleek shallow shaker style. The 2cm Dekton countertops & backsplash were designed with an island height of 2 1/4 inches, creating a more dynamic space. As passionate cooks and bakers, the clients chose Wolf and SubZero appliances, panel-ready to harmonize beautifully with their kitchen design. This project turned out breathtakingly, and the clients are overjoyed to possess a kitchen that embodies beauty and functionality, exceeding their dreams and aspirations.
