The densely forested site lies beside a 180-acre park that overlooks the Strait of Georgia, the San Juan Islands and the Puget Sound. Having experienced the world from under a black focusing cloth and large format camera lens, the photographer has a special fondness for simplicity and an appreciation of unique, genuine and well-crafted details. The home was made decidedly modest, in size and means, with a building skin utilizing simple materials in a straightforward yet innovative configuration. The result is a structure crafted from affordable and common materials such as exposed wood two-bys that form the structural frame and directly support a prefabricated aluminum window system of standard glazing units uniformly sized to reduce the complexity and overall cost. Accessed from the west on a sloped boardwalk that bisects its two contrasting forms, the house sits lightly on the land above the forest floor. A south facing two-story glassy cage for living captures the sun and view as it celebrates the interplay of light and shadow in the forest. To the north, stairs are contained in a thin wooden box stained black with a traditional Finnish pine tar coating. Narrow apertures in the otherwise solid dark wooden wall sharply focus the vibrant cropped views of the old growth fir trees at the edge of the deep forest. Lightbox is an uncomplicated yet powerful gesture that enables one to view the subtlety and beauty of the site while providing comfort and pleasure in the constantly changing light of the forest.

Design Concept and Form The concept is straightforward – a long rectangle with sloping roofs for panels, and high windows to bring in daylight. It feels balanced and connected to the land. Construction and Materials Wood framing provides strength and tradition, built to endure while staying budget-friendly. Energy Efficiency Solar arrays power everything, with radiant heating and east/west setup for natural warmth and light – sustainable living that's easy and effective. With nearly 14,000 square feet of transparent planar architecture, In Plane Sight, encapsulates — by a horizontal bridge-like architectural form — 180 degree views of Paradise Valley, iconic Camelback Mountain, the city of Phoenix, and its surrounding mountain ranges. Large format wall cladding, wood ceilings, and an enviable glazing package produce an elegant, modernist hillside composition. The challenges of this 1.25 acre site were few: a site elevation change exceeding 45 feet and an existing older home which was demolished. The client program was straightforward: modern and view-capturing with equal parts indoor and outdoor living spaces. Though largely open, the architecture has a remarkable sense of spatial arrival and autonomy. A glass entry door provides a glimpse of a private bridge connecting master suite to outdoor living, highlights the vista beyond, and creates a sense of hovering above a descending landscape. Indoor living spaces enveloped by pocketing glass doors open to outdoor paradise. This backyard project transformed an underused grass area into a spacious and functional outdoor living space with a new 17' × 19'7" pressure-treated wood deck. The homeowners wanted a large, straightforward platform that would create more usable space for outdoor dining, entertaining, barbecuing, and enjoying the surrounding mature trees. The finished deck provides a strong visual connection between the home and backyard while offering plenty of room for flexible furniture arrangements and everyday family use. The deck was constructed using pressure-treated lumber, selected for its durability, value, and suitability for Ontario’s changing seasonal conditions. For the first time working with this color scheme of pure white, sensual and subtly hidden pink, and the regal tone of gold surprisingly grew on me and filled me with unimaginable splendor. A slightly different view of the pair of doors measuring - 13-3/8" x 27-7/8" - This is a fairly straightforward design for a set of Cabinet Inserts.... However, we still had to deal with 2 different widths. The sizes shown in the accompanying photos are as follows; 2 panels at - 13-3/8" x 27-7/8" 1 panel at - 15-7/8" x 27-7/8" Down the center we used 2" x 4" Beveled Glass Diamonds. Around the Diamonds, for the Inside BackGround Glass, we used Spectrum Glass - 100A - Clear Artique Glass, which is a very subtle textured glass. The Outside Border features Spectrum Glass - 100H - Clear Hammered Glass. Our Dark Antique Patina Lead Came works perfectly with the Cabinet Hardware. .
