The Deschutes House is located on an urban site facing the Deschutes River in Bend, Oregon. The architectural massing of the house has been wrapped around a south-facing, grassy courtyard, with dramatic 2nd story spaces cantilevered toward the river. The main living space is completely transparent to the river on one side and to the courtyard on the other side, providing two entirely different views from the room. The living ceiling plane has enlivened by CNC-milled wood-strip ceiling panels, with variegated shapes inspired by landscape morphology. The house is clad with a two different types of siding: tightly spaced Western red cedar and corrugated metal siding. The warm tones of the wood contrast nicely with the cool tones of the metal siding and metal roofing. The fireplace chimney is clad in Montana ledgestone with a combination of earth tones and grey-blue colors. The house has a number of sustainable or “green” building features, including 2x8 construction (40% greater insulation value); generous glass areas to provide natural lighting and ventilation; large overhangs for sun and snow protection; metal siding for maximum durability; and radiant floor heating. The house also has solar hot water panels for domestic hot water.

This project involved a complete, top-to-bottom renovation of a classic home originally built in 1920. We took this century-old structure and transformed it into a modern, energy-efficient, and beautifully finished home. The house was stripped to its bones, allowing us to address the core structure. A critical part of the project was adding comprehensive insulation to the entire building, which previously had none. We installed a full set of new, high-performance windows and doors to further enhance the home's efficiency. A major upgrade included the integration of a high-tech ducted heating and cooling system, bringing state-of-the-art climate control to the entire house. The exterior was given a complete facelift with brand-new siding, all new exterior trim, and a professional paint job, restoring its timeless curb appeal. The attention to detail continued inside with new trim throughout and a full interior repainting, resulting in a fresh, clean, and move-in-ready space that honors the home's historic character while providing all the comforts of modern living.

One of our favorite elements of this modern wine cellar is the mirrored ceiling. This is a creative trick to provide an infinite appearance that will elude to the idea of having hundreds of shelves! Each corner of this modern wine cellar is complemented by our different racking techniques. Our display shelves allow each bottle to have its own moment of appreciation, to create an artful look that is sure to impress. When our client approached us with an idea of housing their extensive wine collection in their modern high rise residence, we were thrilled! After viewing their incredibly modern home, we realized that we could not provide them with a traditional wine cellar. We were presented with an exciting task of reimagining our traditional displays, to a clean and sleek modern design. As designers, maintaining the flow of a home is very important to us and our mission is to enhance the home’s existing features. From the wine cellar door to the ceiling, we were able to bring our A-game and create a complementary extension to our customer’s home. Our custom wine cellar door is equipped with a matching threshold, that holds all of the cold air in place. When you take a step inside, you are greeted from floor to ceiling with exquisite design. From our customer’s collectible storage boxes to 4 upward facing display shelves, you are immediately aware that this is a work of art. Each display shelf is adorned with its own light strip that further draws attention to the collectible wine bottles. As you glance up further, you see our storage shelves in full force. Playing off of the vast collection, we decided to install a mirrored ceiling. This design element allowed us to have some fun, and to further accentuate the large collection. This modern wine cellar is complete with a clear glass insulated Modern door that creates a temperature-controlled environment, conducive for preserving wine for decades. As designers, we were presented with a wonderful opportunity to showcase several of our strong suits. Challenge: Our clients wanted to modernize the look of their 1997 home, and update all electrical and plumbing infrastructure. Structural issues were apparent at the onset of the project with missing bearing points and beams that should have been incorporated into the original build. Solution: The work started with a complete strip out of the interior. Existing finishes, appliances, kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, electrical, plumbing, doors and frames, heating systems, all trim, drywall, insulation and vapour barrier we all removed. This left a bare wood frame shell which required some tricky structural changes to open up the interior necessitating load transfer modifications and additional foundations. The main stair was widened to create a luxurious ascent to the master bedroom overlooking the golf course. All bathrooms were fully replaced with a new kitchen designed to be open to the dining room and living room. The new interior finishes, and the essential design thereof, came together smoothly with all trades meeting agreed time frames and prices. We had a great time working with the client throughout the project. Communication was strong during the course of construction which resulted in a renovation that exceeded the client’s criteria and that also met our exacting level of quality.

Family Room, Home Bar - Beautiful Studs-Out-Remodel in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. We gutted this house "to the studs," taking it down to its original floor plan. Drywall, insulation, flooring, tile, cabinetry, doors and windows, trim and base, plumbing, the roof, landscape, and ceiling fixtures were stripped away, leaving nothing but beams and unfinished flooring. Housewright Construction had the pleasure of renovating this 1980's lake house in central NH. We stripped down the old tongue and grove pine, re-insulated, replaced all of the flooring, installed a custom stained wood ceiling, gutted the Kitchen and bathrooms and added a custom fireplace. Outside we installed new siding, replaced the windows, installed a new deck, screened in porch and farmers porch and outdoor shower. This lake house will be a family favorite for years to come!

This Southern Florida farmhouse may look like it’s been there for generations but this brand new home is built by PBS Contractors to withstand everything that mother nature can throw at it. The exterior walls are constructed with our ship-lap style 10″ Plank EverLog Siding and our vertical Board and Batten, pre-finished with a custom color we call Western Tan and Weatherall chinking in the same tone. The siding is attached to 1×3 treated furring strips over rigid foam insulation and all are anchored to the 8″ CMU and cast-in-place concrete wall with concrete screws. The remodel also included a resurfaced front porch floor, new front steps, and refurbished steps off to the side. MainStreet Design Build installed new lighting, added a gable roof in place of a low pitch shed roof, and added new roof details over the kitchen window.
