Peppers and tomatoes are underplanted with zinnias in this beautiful vegetable garden. Learn how to grow easy vegetables that look great on your patio from the book "Easy Container Combos: Vegetables & Flowers." See a free, 24 page sample of the book at www.pamela-crawford.com. in the 'Books' section. Pamela Crawford designed and photographed the planter. Pamela designs landscapes throughout Palm Beach County, FL, including Boca Raton, Delray Beach, the town of Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and Wellington.

Raised beds hold organic garden soil mix that ranges from 8" - 2' deep. Here you see a late winter, very early spring view of this salad garden in metro Atlanta. Various types of lettuce, kale, parsley, and chives are accented by pansies which have edible flowers. After our frost date, most of this will be removed. Tomatoes will be planted in the center where the soil is deepest. Basil and mesclun will be planted around.

This project represents the evolution of a 10 acre space over more than three decades. It began with the pool and space around it. As the vegetable garden grew, the orchard was established and the display gardens blossomed. The prairie was restored and a kitchen was added to complete the space. Although, it continues to change with a pond next on the design plan. Photo credit: Linda Oyama Bryan

-Rustic/Industrial design to complement the residency architecture
-Centrally sited feature with access from dancer’s wing residences, dance studio and main courtyard
-24 Raised beds with sitting benches and trellises made of locally sourced Hemlock hardwood

This large garden in Westport was tiered to perfectly conform to the slope of the clients yard. It's built in our "classic" style, using beautiful, rot resistant cedar but has a few custom touches such as the flush rails without post caps.

These beds are raised using stone tread stock set on edge and then back filled with an amended soil mix. Raising the beds makes turning the soil and working in the beds easier. The soil of the raised beds also warms up faster in early spring, allowing the beds to be planted a little earlier in the year.
Seen in these beds are tomatoes, peppers and broccoli.

Flowers and vegetables make great companions, both aesthetically and functionally. Flowers add splashes of color to the sea of green and attract beneficial pollinators, ensuring your garden will be successful and productive.
