This eclectic mountain home nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains showcases an unexpected but harmonious blend of design influences. The European-inspired architecture, featuring native stone, heavy timbers and a cedar shake roof, complement the rustic setting. This project won in the 2013 Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Housing Excellence Award for Best Urban Renewal Renovation Project. The glass bowl was made in the glass studio owned by the owner which is adjacent to the residence. The mirror is a repurposed window. The door is repurposed from a boarding house. George Mendel

Quintessentially Mid-Century, the kitchen sports cozy quarters. "Matthew and I laugh about this," jokes Bobbie. "We always said our next house would have a big gourmet kitchen and a big bathtub, [and] we have neither!" While the Fisher's might appreciate a little more wiggle room, they are in no hurry to make any drastic changes. The cabinetry is original. "When we first moved in, we thought we would definitely need to replace the two burner cook top with a four-burner, but we haven’t," she states. "The kitchen is surprisingly efficient." The children’s study was an unused and uninspiring space. We transformed this space in order to function for the family’s needs and to be a cheerful, exciting place for the children to relax, read and do homework. Paul S. Bartholomew

The corner microwave cabinet keeps it off the counter and at a comfortable height. The 'blind' corner base cabinet features two swing out shelves, making items back in the corner easy to access. The large tray drawer won't wiggle, and is sturdy enough to hold all your cookie sheets and pizza pans upright.
