What could go possibly wrong? Nothing with Alair as their contractor. Some creativity was required to get these clients the overall feel of the home they wanted without breaking the budget. The end result proves you can still have a big impact on a small budget if you target key areas and spend wisely.

Example of an eclectic living room design in New York

The new design expanded the footprint of the home to 1,271 square feet for the first level and 1,156 for the new second level. A new entry with a quarter turn stair leads you into the original living space. The old guest bedroom that was once accessed through the dining room is now connected to the front living space by pocket doors. The new open concept creates a continuous flow from the living space through the dining into the kitchen. The new bright, crisp kitchen features CaesarStone counters and white cabinets. New appliances and a large central island with seating is perfect for cooking and entertaining. Off the kitchen is a new family room and laundry. In addition, a hallway featuring a command center, craft closet and original bathroom, leads to the original guest bedroom, currently being used as an office. Up the stairs is a kid play area with built-in shelving, a new kid bathroom with double vanity, two extra bedrooms and a spacious master suite. Photo by Tre Dunham

antique-style dresser serves as changing table and gives the room a grown-up touch. Vintage artwork adds character and personality. A chevron pouf allows for extra seating when not used as footstool. And soft cozy rug is create for baby to crawl on.

Our poster project for The Three P's, this small midcentury home south of campus has great bones but lacked vibrancy - a je ne sais quoi that the clients were searching to savoir once and for all. SYI worked with them to nail down a design direction and furniture plan, and they decided to invest in the big-impact items first: built-ins and lighting and a fresh paint job that included a beautiful deep blue-green line around the windows. The vintage rug was an Etsy score at an awesome price, but only after the client spent months scouring options and sources online that matched the vision and dimensions of the plan. A good year later, the West Elm sofa went on sale, so the client took advantage; some time after that, they painted the kitchen, created the drop zone / bench area, and rounded out the room with occasional tables and accessories.
