Having successfully designed the then bachelor’s penthouse residence at the Waldorf Astoria, Kadlec Architecture + Design was retained to combine 2 units into a full floor residence in the historic Palmolive building in Chicago. The couple was recently married and have five older kids between them all in their 20s. She has 2 girls and he has 3 boys (Think Brady bunch). Nate Berkus and Associates was the interior design firm, who is based in Chicago as well, so it was a fun collaborative process. Details: -Brass inlay in natural oak herringbone floors running the length of the hallway, which joins in the rotunda. -Bronze metal and glass doors bring natural light into the interior of the residence and main hallway as well as highlight dramatic city and lake views. -Billiards room is paneled in walnut with navy suede walls. The bar countertop is zinc. -Kitchen is black lacquered with grass cloth walls and has two inset vintage brass vitrines. -High gloss lacquered office -Lots of vintage/antique lighting from Paris flea market (dining room fixture, over-scaled sconces in entry) -World class art collection Photography: Tony Soluri, Interior Design: Nate Berkus Interiors and Sasha Adler Design

Cute girls room done is coral and blue. Fun blue with white flower wallpaper accent wall. Zebra print floor area rug. Uses furniture to create separate areas in the room. TV area with coral couch and window seat with tons of pillows. Recovered antique chairs and fresh painted silver piano. Fun functional roman shades for privacy. Framed artwork consists of favorite song quotes on sheet music.

This office received a complete makeover. We added shelving on either side of the window, wood flooring, a beautiful teal desk, edgy lighting and a zebra rug. The office doors were white and were swinging into the office area. We painted the doors black, added height to the doors (very creatively) and put them on a barn door track. This office is roomy, functional and ready for action.

At the other end of the home is this media room featuring a Velvet Aqua sectional and area rug that defines the TV screening area. An accent chair in the very bold pillow fabric is added to balance the seating area and a large Zebra print leather hide cocktail ottoman for casual feet-up comfort in front of the sectional. An exterior entrance leads into an entry with a console on the left and a round table right front. The round entry table has Crocodile embossed leatherstools that can be used as seating around the table or pulled into the screening area. Assorted trees and accessories ad to the coastal vibe while the selected furniture is more eclectic than overtly beachy.

We used bold red and taupe fabric for the headboards and ran it horizontally to make the room feel modern. In contrast, the tall, vertical bedposts added a welcome traditional element. Find The House Candy: - Lamps in sparkling teal green glass! - Bold red and taupe horizontals play
