Although relatively new to the North American market, zinc has been used as a building material in Europe for more than 300 years. In fact, many of the European zinc roofs installed in the 19th Century are still in service today. While longevity and low-to-no maintenance contribute to zinc’s appeal, today’s homeowner’s are also choosing the material because of the creativity and distinct design aesthetics that zinc offers.
Used for roofing, gutters, and wall cladding, zinc offers elegance and longevity few other materials can. When installed properly, a RHEINZINK roof can last 80 years, while a wall can easily last 150+ years. In addition to its long service life, homeowner’s like the fact that zinc is low-to-no maintenance.
More and more homeowners are requesting the material – on both renovations and new construction; as a complete roof or as major details. RHEINZINK offers four distinct shades of grey: prePATINA blue-grey, prePATINA graphite-grey, artCOLOR sky-grey and artCOLOR basalte. And whether the home design is an old English cottage, cutting-edge modern, or something in between, zinc can offer the ideal design aesthetic.
Nothing makes a house stand out better than a RHEINZINK roof.

Built on a steep lakeside terrain, the Tsuga residence by Appareil Architecture is an ambitious project that required meticulous planning and flawless execution. Nestled within the rugged landscapes of Brownsburg-Chatham, Tsuga elevates a complex site to offer a seamless immersion in nature. Balancing the site’s constraints with a high level of finish, every phase of the project was designed to reconcile technical challenges with precision. Modulor expertly managed all collaborators, ensuring a level of detail that defines a project of this scale.
On the exterior, the building envelope combines durability with refinement. Carefully selected natural wood cladding interacts with a perforated screen that filters light and adds depth to the façade. The integration of openings was strategically planned to maximize views while maintaining a cohesive architectural expression.
Inside, the materials and finishes reflect the same commitment to quality. Wooden paneling wraps the spaces, creating visual continuity and a warm atmosphere. The stainless steel kitchen, with its clean lines and custom design, introduces a striking contrast between modernity and natural textures. Every junction, every material transition was meticulously crafted to ensure a flawless result, with no compromises on durability or functionality.
Designed for an architectural historian and a musician and opera singer, Tsuga is the result of meticulous craftsmanship. A home built to stand the test of time, with an unwavering attention to detail.

Porch and terrace repaired, redesigned, and revived for sunny, year-round space.
These homeowners had an existing porch in their home, but it was failing. Both the porch and adjoining terrace were over the garage, which added technical complexity to building this project.
The terrace had been redone and the structure was fine, but the porch structure was failing. It needed to be completely repaired. Since the space needed to be completely redone, the homeowners decided to not just recreate the old space, but redesign it and make it the bright year-round space they dreamed of.
The final design choices include floor heat, to keep the space warm and cozy year-round, and full windows, to keep the bitter winter winds outside. What the homeowners most love about the room is that while the rest of the house is traditional and a bit darker, this room is always bright and cozy, with lots of light, year-round. The windows can open up during the summer season to let the sounds of the birds and scents of the grills in, or stay closed to enjoy bright sunlight during the winter. Year-round sunlight - without even needing to wear socks!

This is my favorite bathroom I've designed to date. It was also the most technical project my brother has ever done. The two pics show what the old shower used to look like and what the old vanity looked like too. We moved a wall, built a wall, moved the toilet, vents, added in a heated floor with a touch screen programmable thermostat, 3 shower heads, 4 sconces, 5can lights, and mitered all outside corners of the tile. Cabinet is walnut and shelf in tub deck is walnut as well. I want to thank my customer for the opportunity to bring his ideas to life. But most of all I want to thank my brother Mike for his craftsmanship and dealing with all my design changes as the project developed. @premierstoneandtile

fench country classical garden meets modern. These are technically two different houses that the client combined into one. VERY different styles, but well done.

Located in the heart of Montreal, Binôme is an architectural urban densification project built by Modulor. Composed of two distinct buildings connected by an inner courtyard, this new five-unit development stands out through its unique layout, architecture, and exceptional attention to detail. The construction required rigorous planning and precise technical execution, particularly due to major excavation work and underpinning of adjacent buildings. Such interventions in a dense urban environment demand specialized expertise and tight project management at every phase of the build.
Conceived as an income-generating property, the clients benefited from our strategic support to ensure the profitability, efficiency, and optimization of their investment. Modulor worked closely with the team at Appareil Architecture to bring to life a project of high architectural integrity.
Binôme’s architecture draws inspiration from the area's industrial past: clean volumes, red brick, generous openings reminiscent of former workshops, and elegant brick colonnades form a refined and cohesive ensemble. The central courtyard, designed as a luminous and welcoming shared space, becomes the vibrant heart of the project. A colorful metal staircase, crafted by Atomic Soudure, connects both buildings and adds a distinctive, curated touch.
As a finalist for the 2025 Ordre des architectes du Québec Awards of Excellence, Binôme stands as a model of successful urban revitalization. It illustrates how thoughtful, well-executed construction can elevate Montreal’s built environment while addressing today’s densification challenges.

This project showcases a stunning transformation that combines thoughtful design, functional upgrades, and meticulous craftsmanship. At its heart is a fully renovated kitchen featuring custom shaker cabinets with a luxurious, soft green custom paint finish. These cabinets are complemented by an elegant engineered quartz countertop, creating a clean and timeless aesthetic.
To further enhance the space, the addition of a skylight brings in natural light, brightening the area and giving it an open, airy feel. The patterned tile flooring adds a bold and stylish touch, tying together traditional and modern elements. The carefully designed bench seating with built-in storage provides practicality and charm, perfect for a cozy and functional corner by the entrance.
The renovation went beyond aesthetic improvements. All electrical and mechanical systems were reconfigured to meet the demands of the updated layout, ensuring optimal functionality and safety. Additionally, structural repairs in the floor above were expertly executed to enhance the home’s stability and longevity.
Outside, the addition blends seamlessly with the existing structure, featuring durable and stylish siding that adds curb appeal. A thoughtfully constructed deck completes the exterior, offering a versatile space for outdoor enjoyment.
This project reflects the seamless integration of thoughtful design, technical expertise, and superior craftsmanship, resulting in a home that is as beautiful as it is functional.

Aesthetic Value: Great effort was spent creating a design fulfilling the Architect and homeowner's dream for a " Rustic Modern Floating Stair " that was " Rock Solid " and harmoniously combine wood and steel into a functional piece of art.
Stair Safety: The balustrade system has 35" rake height and 37" balcony height and can withstand a 400 lbs. side load with only .0425" deflection. The balustrade and stair complies with the 4" sphere rule Throughout.
Quality: The entire balustrade system is " Blind Welded " so there is no visible welds. The Rustic White Oak has all knots and character marks filled with colored epoxy and sanded to perfection.
Technical Challenge: To design and engineer a fully cantilevered landing and tread system that is suspended from a single support beam and can withstand a direct load of 450 lbs with less than .0625" deflection.
