Located in Palo Alto's flood zone, this Eichler home underwent a phased renovation thoughtfully redesigned to accommodate a growing family of five, with an emphasis on school proximity and nearby grandparents. The bedroom wing was completely reconfigured, including a new front addition as a guest suite for grandparents, expanding the house to five bedrooms and three baths. Taller 9-foot ceilings were introduced in some areas, enhancing the overall openness—a lofty goal for an Eichler. The tranquil courtyard, a favorite spot for the family, was redesigned to allow parents to watch the kids while cooking. The backyard became a relaxing lounging area connected to the living room. Once dark living spaces were modernized by removing a low-hanging beam in the kitchen, adding skylights for natural light, and eliminating the fireplace to create a more functional entertainment space. Finally, new landscaping reflecting the client's heritage and some of the home's architectural elements, creates a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow. A Lake Michigan Home gets a Modern Refresh from Dresner Design. Photos by Tony Soluri. This couple moved from Chicago’s Wicker Park to a rural setting but wanted to maintain their modern aesthetic. Scott Dresner of Dresner Design created a light bright clean-lined kitchen perfect for the couple’s need to entertain. Must have’s included a drawer for over sixty spices, storage for three sets of dishes, a coffee bar, and a huge island the couple uses for entertaining. The palette is mostly white to maximize outdoor views. Constraints were plenty both timeline and budgetary. Dresner came up with some creative solutions, which allowed the homeowners to save on cabinetry and materials and splurge on appliances.

This family had a beautiful piece of property, located in the Township of Mendham, and wanted a large home approximately 4,000 to 4,500 square feet. That number changed many times during the schematic phase process which is part of the design process where AGA works through the different possible layouts within the parameters of the agreed upon project. The original proposal was spelled out as follows: first floor: 10 foot ceilings, two story entry with grand staircase open to second floor, study, dining room, great room – two story space (family room) with gas fireplace open to kitchen with eat-in breakfast area, powder room, laundry room and mud room adjacent to a three car garage and sunken entertainment room. Additional features included a back staircase to the second floor. The second floor requirements were: 9 foot ceilings, three bedrooms and two full baths (one bath to be Jack and Jill), master bedroom suite to include sitting area, two walk-in closets and master bath. The owner ended up getting everything on his wish list and we managed to keep the home under 4,500 square feet

This customer was referred to us by a local real estate agent who was familiar with our work and trusted us to deliver an amazing finished product. Initially, the customer was interested in doing a simple face lift on their master bath; however, their focus shifted during the design phase and they decided to go with a complete master bath remodel. To help with the design process, the customer came to us with a design they discovered on Houzz.com, the use of which we fully encourage for all of our customers because it serves as a great tool to help homeowners settle upon the perfect style and theme. Once a final design was chosen, we created several rough draft estimates to fine-tune the scope of the project and began the process of getting the necessary materials on site, which plays a vital role in avoiding delays. Once all of the materials arrived, we began work on the three-week remodel. In the end, this particular customer wanted an elegant and simple, yet functional and clean line master bathroom - something modern with a sense of traditional class. Upon completion, the finished product was not only stylish, but incredibly beautiful, leaving the customer extremely happy with our work.

This window treatmet design consist of swags in a red crinkled faux silk, banded in a similar gold fabric. The Swags and panels are constructed and stapled to three wooden decorative rods. This treatment is over 130" high and 160' wide. Because our shop only has an 8' ceiling, the treatment had to be constructed in sections. The layout was done half at a time, due to the width. After working out the design with a string, the treatment was constructed in three sections-two sides and a middle. Each swag and panel were cut and sewn complete, then stapled starting with the center section and then the sides. the three sections and the raised portion of the swag were attached onsite. After the treatment was installed, we dressed it by skirting out the side panels to show off the banding and trim on the mitered corners. The end result is a stunning window treatment which frames the view of a small lake. This custom design was developed considering that the client wanted an over swag in a red tone and an under swag in a light sheer fabric. The client also wanted the sheer fabric to cover the top arched window but allow some of the trim to show in the corners of the arch. Our client loved shiny fabric and trims and wanted the "wow" factor. Since the home was a couple of hours from our business, we worked a lot by phone and fax. During the design phase we took large sheets of clear plastic, on which We had drawn our template, and hung it over pieces of ceiling tile attached to our wall. We then overlaid more plastic, on which we strung our design and then drew out the lines with marker. We took a picture, printed it in black and white and faxed it to the client. She faxed it back with changes, and so on, until, we had perfected the design. With this method, we viewed the design in parts and were not able to see it complete until it was installed.
