Inspiration for a dining room remodel in Burlington

An organic edged slab of rainbow eucalyptus dining table surrounded by McGuire woven rattan dining chairs. The canoe chandelier is made of thousands of small pieces of glass fused together. The grouping is on a beautiful Tibetan handwoven rug. The pocket doors are rarely closed to the meditative yet lush tropical courtyard garden.

Michael Merrill design studio took an ordinary, carpeted staircase and added wood treads and five alternating bands of custom hand-made tiles in the Spanish Revival style of the 1920s to create this dramatic entrance hall.

The interior design for this home is what we call "New Traditional". The dining room has a Tibetan wool area rug a Czechoslovakian crystal chandelier and antique framed Intaglio prints. The drapery fabric is Brunschwig & Fils Toile upholstered dining chair fabric is silk sateen. The pedestal table and dining chairs are from Bernhardt.

The Reese Sofa, an early 1950’s inspired hardwood modern square-arm group featuring a double-welted border along the front rail, seat and arms. Across is the Ansel in Tibetan Fur, our Scandinavian-style metal Windsor chair that feels vintage and modern all at once. Tying the whole setting together is our Honore' Casegoods Collection. Our chic take on French modern style, captured in black & white, the Honore' Collection brings elegance with ebony-stained mahogany with sleek, rich-looking white Carrara marble, accented with polished stainless steel hardware.

Open plan with radiant concrete floors lets natural light in all times of day. A built in window seat faces north creating a comfortable reading nook. The gas fireplace is a linear fire by Montego, faced with American Clay. The dining table base and chairs are vintage mid century modern antiques while the top is veneer beech. Tibetan rugs designed by Marcia Weese are placed throughout to warm up the concrete floors.
