Design ideas for a transitional landscaping in Baltimore.

Our clients came to us after discovering a leak in their upstairs bathroom. They were out of town on vacation and their neighbor was checking on their house and happened to walk in the garage and see water leaking from the ceiling. Thankfully, it was a slow leak but the water had to be turned off for them to deal with after vacation. This was a shared bathroom between the kids game room and their son’s bedroom, so it was used all the time. They needed to update the bathroom anyway, so now was their chance. They wanted to replace all finishes, except the bathtub and toilet. Originally, it had dark cabinets and a dark blue/gray wall color, so they wanted to brighten it up. They wanted a classic look that would be timeless, so we chose a simple gray and white color scheme. They used some fun bright accessories to bring a little excitement into the space. We started by gutting the entire space, with the exception of the bathtub. New striated glossy white Hall Blanco Ceramic wall tile was installed around the bathtub. A Marble Hex Mosaic tile was used as an accent in the shower niche. She picked out a beautiful Silestone Eternal Serena Polished Quartz countertop. A Mirabelle® Mangrove Center Vitreous China rectangle white undermount sink was installed for a more modern feel. Maple cabinets from Quality Cabinets were installed with a cotton finish. Most of the hardware is Delta Faucet “Dryden”, except the pulls, which are “Square Bar” pulls from Top Knobs. All hardware is polished chrome, coordinate with the Feiss “Montero” 3-light vanity lighting fixtures. Sticking with the hexagon shape for accents, the floor tile they chose is a 10” matte Silver Hex Porcelain floor tiles. The colors and finishes coordinated and looked beautiful when it was completed. When yearning for a wee bit of sunshine, this couple ventures over from the East Coast to soak it all up in their La Jolla condo. Trying this city on for size, this project was an experiment in going a bit outside the client's comfort zone, as they wanted something more modern in style than what they are accustomed to while keeping with the neutral and timeless colors they are so fond of.

With all those people in the house, we had to get creative with the bathrooms and washrooms – again to accommodate lots of people (mostly kids) washing up and brushing teeth. Poaching space from the former exercise room, we designed a timeless, black and white bathroom using subway, and penny round tiles. The custom mirror above a large trough sink provides a shelf for toiletries and two cut outs for old-fashioned Mason jars – to hold a fistful of toothbrushes.

The Glass Cabin, an unique personal vacation home in California, chose our 2”classic white triangle tile for their kitchen backsplash renovation. The homeowner said that they like to cook when on vacation. With the goal of building a modern and simple space for cooking and dinning, the small kitchen get a fresh and timeless look. Design: When our clients purchased their vacation home in Winter Park, they loved the location, but the exterior no longer reflected their style. Having partnered with us on their Boulder home a few years ago, they knew what it felt like to go through our process. There was already trust, already a shared language around design. So when it came time to reimagine their mountain retreat, they reached out again, ready to create something that felt cohesive with their personal aesthetic yet uniquely suited to its alpine surroundings. And so, the goal of this Winter Park remodel was simple: transform an outdated exterior into a refined mountain-modern retreat. We used their Boulder home as a stylistic foundation (clean lines, thoughtful contrast, intentional materiality) but softened and adapted the palette to embrace the rugged beauty of Winter Park. The design leaned into a more natural, mountain-inspired expression while maintaining the minimal sophistication they love. Every selection was made to feel timeless, grounded, and appropriate for a home nestled in the Rockies. Build: Although there were no structural changes, the transformation was comprehensive. We redesigned and refreshed every exterior component to align with the new mountain modern vision. Updated finishes, refined details, and a carefully curated material palette gave the home a cohesive, elevated presence. Durability was equally important. Mountain homes must stand up to heavy snow, intense sun, and fluctuating temperatures. We selected long-lasting, low-maintenance materials, including composite decking, to ensure the exterior performs beautifully for years to come. The result is a fully realized Winter Park remodel that feels intentional, contemporary, and perfectly at home in its surroundings, a vacation retreat that now reflects the same warmth and design clarity as their primary residence.
