GAO Zhiqiang: Exploring the infinite possibilities beyond boundaries - Space Emotion Design Series - Vniau Office The essence of space design is to pay attention to people’s emotional needs, especially in office designs. Vniau office is designed by GAO Zhiqiang, a space emotion designer. He created an extremely comfortable and inclusive office space by modern design tech-niques, combined with technology, history and humanities. / Explore / Infinite possibilities beyond boundaries A humanistic caring, warm and emotional design work, under the continuous changes of social forms, evolves into a space in accordance with the develop-ment of the current era, which is the most solid response from the designer to the space. This open space makes you feel like entering into a movie scene. Large areas of black and white contrast, and smooth lines create a powerful aura. However, soft lights bring back a romantic atmosphere. The space is highlighted by vir-tuality and reality. The development of modern technology diversified people’s cognition and iden-tification of space dimension. The designer tries to break the inherent bound-ary consciousness among technology, humanities and nature by comfortable and efficient spatial perception. Wandering between virtual and real, light and shadow, the space presents a fu-ture sense through symbols. It shows a bold, free, open, lush, and new office format. "Compared with technology, we pay more attention to people's emotions and feelings. We have always been advocating using the most common materials to create different spaces, and the key is depended on design." Said designer GAO Zhiqiang. Therefore, when it came to the selection of materials, pureness presents in-finity, simplicity creates richness. Bright green brings cheerfulness, and the exposed ceiling and cloud-like chandeliers create a natural and agile visual perception. The combination of dynamic and stillness embodies the concentra-tion of the designer. As the previous office was in Chinese style with redwood furniture, in order to have good effect of the overall space, the designer discussed with the own-er repeatedly, strive to change into a modern style, which matches more with their products, clients, competitors, brand culture and temperament of the of-fice, younger staff, etc., in the end, this design shows up. This is a ring-shaped office space with same walls and same core tubes, which make people easily disoriented. By the principle of 5 elements - metal, wood, water, fire and earth, the designer placed the reception and exhibition room in the middle, and painted in yellow, corresponding to central earth. According to this principle, the R & D department on the east side is decorat-ed in green, corresponding to wood, also, the market and finance department on the south side is orange, corresponding to fire. Service department on the west is white color representing metal, CEO and QC office on the north side is given black color, representing water. 5 directions are painted in 5 colors, which make people clearly distinguish departments and directions. The building wall of the void area has a huge sloped beam, which causes poor visual experience. To solve this problem, the designer creates a magnificent X-shaped style by making use of the original beam structure. Its perforated sides and the luminous aluminum plates are very sci-fi, showing a similar vision of X-Men headquarters. The interaction, communication and intersection among people are the key points of designing moving lines. Their optimization brings closer collaboration among departments,shorten the distance that people have to walk in the space, such as in conference rooms, negotiation rooms, recreation area, water bar, reception area. Reasonable moving lines make discussion and communication between people, de-partments, and customers more efficient. At the same time, different spaces create different atmospheres and emotions, relax, or serious, or leisurable, etc., so as to meet needs of different moments. In addition, the designer GAO Zhiqiang said, "We want to create a feeling of flowing clouds. Lights and curves create moving lines, and give a sense of freedom." To remove the shackles of traditional office designs, and give a space infi-nite vitality is not just a change in form, it is more about 'people' them-selves. Here, everyone has a very large degree of freedom, and they can feel the infinite possibilities of future. Initiative and creativity are stimulated at the same time. Once people create the environment, areas interact with each other, and the power of design emerges. Soft curve is a visual expression of tolerance and infinite possibilities. The spatial layout breaks isolation and shortens the distance of human hearts. High efficiency while no boundaries, and everywhere has space for independent thinking and solitude. The space respects each individual and can also unit as a whole. Gaudi, the most famous Spanish architect, once said that straight lines belong to human, and curves belong to the God. It is probably that the curves give birth to too many wonderful changes. In this space, the curves are formed smoothly, either on the ground or ceiling, or a room, a partition. "Spatial emotion design" advocates bringing human attributes to spatial func-tions. By designing and shaping the space, people are able to work in the best state of physiological and psychological emotions. Therefore, AFFD is trying their best to create comfortable working environments for employees, to ensure efficient work, as well as physical and mental health of staff.

This is a brand new custom home we built for some clients at Cowichan Lake. It has been built with SIPS panels (Structurally Insulated Panel System) from Insulspan. This is an alternative to traditional stick framing that is a prefabricated wall system that is a six inch wall made of wood and filled with styrofoam. The exterior of the home uses a combination of brick, stucco, tile, and an amazing vertical charred cedar exterior cladding. With the help of Chris Wiebe from Energy Experts who is our energy advisor the home has achieved level 4 in the step code which means it is super energy efficient and super air tight. The home has a great flow and has ikea kitchens, quartz countertops, and some incredible lighting solutions the client had imported from China. These clients have a wonderful modern sense of style and were very patient with us through the building process. Building a home like this is a trying process. Getting out of the ground was a challenge and the unconventional exterior cladding choices caused some stress along the way.

Additionally, an enclosed music room was also constructed, allowing any musician to practise in peace without causing too much disturbance to fellow residents.

Bradley Beach Residence | Situated on a corner lot in the seaside town of Bradley Beach, NJ. Our client wanted to update this 1930’s beach bungalow without losing its coastal charm. The design strategy was to strengthen the connection between interior & exterior spaces. In order to re-orient the internal organization, the main entry was relocated from the north to the east side of the house. On the north façade a new two level porch was added keeping the massing of the house in concert with the neighborhood fabric and provided views to the Atlantic Ocean from the Master Suite. Past renovations and additions caused a fragmented floor plan with no connection the backyard. By removing a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor we were able to enlarge the kitchen while creating a visual connection to the new pool area and backyard. The addition of a butler panty walk-thru acts as a transition between the informal kitchen and the new entry foyer. The interior design, material selections and articulations lend color & texture to the once bland palette. Every finishing detail unifies the coastal location, existing charm, & eclectic style of our client, resulting in a vibrant yet intimate space.

The original space is housed inside of a true log home (same house as the gorgeous Evergreen Kitchen remodel we completed last year) and so the same challenges were present. Moreso than the kitchen, dealing with the logs was very difficult. The original closet had shelves and storage pieces attached to the logs, but over time the logs shifted and expanded, causing these shelving units to detach and break. Our plan for the new closet was to construct an independent framing structure to which the new cabinetry could be attached, preventing shifting and breaking over time. This reduced the overall depth of the clear closet space, but allowed for a multitude of gorgeous cabinet boxes to be integrated into the space where there was never true storage before. We shifted the depths of each cabinet moving down through the space to allow for as much walkable space as possible while still providing storage. With a mix of drawers, hanging bars, roll out trays, and open shelving, this closet is a true beauty with lots of storage opportunity!

Inspiration for a country home design remodel in Charlotte

The original window was a wood frame that became a big problem for the owners. The sash of the window was completely rotted and water along with cold air were pouring into the house. This window drove up the heating bill and cause interior damage. The replacement window is a custom pvc that will never rot and has energy star glass for better insulation.

The square pavers on the landing were removed and replaced with Brookstown Full Range Modular Pavers from Pine Hall Brick Company, Inc. These traditional wire-cut, square-edge clay pavers complement the existing brick beautifully. The old, deteriorating mortar joints were ground out and filled with new mortar (Workrite 2906 N Old Colonial from York Building Products). After that, the area was cleaned using an acid wash designed for brick (@Prosoco SureKlean 600), which effectively dissolves mortar smears and construction dirt without causing acid burns or streaks. Don't have the room for the true "Circular" freestanding staircase you've been dreaming about? Maybe an Ellipse is what you need to put gorgeous lines in a tight space. This African Mahogany beauty found its home in Bountiful, Utah. The hand forged balusters from Italy were supplied by our good friends at House of Forgings. Where possible we try to avoid pitch changes which, while you can soften them with a nice carved fitting, cause a kink in the handrail and stringer. We love things to just flow. This last picture shows our design in which we ensured each of the maroon lines (inside stringer, walk line, & outside stringer) were divided in equal "run" segments. This results in no kinks and produces another wonderful side effect of bowing treads which as they descend down evolve from concave to convex and give the staircase a very compelling and organic feel.

Modern interiors tend to ideal forms and proportions. Designers Luxury Antonovich Design have created a magnificent interior of the apartment in Istanbul in Art Deco with a light charm of traditional classics. The first moments of your stay in the apartment causes sincere delight. The apartment is located on two floors and there is elegant staircase with steps of black marble which leads to the second floor. The stairs are completed by an exquisite bas-relief of a romantic cityscape. Mirrors, framing bas-relief with classical sconces, give finality of the apartment space. Entrance into the living room is decorated with two tall columns of natural marble with silver capitals. The floor is made of natural marble, on which the natural patterns of stone are wonderfully combined with fanciful swirls of patterns of carved marble with darker shade. Ceiling design became the basis for the zoning of the space. Walls differ with some restraint and brevity, highlighting the luxury furniture and decoration of windows. Boiserie is filled by elite wallpapers with lace delicate patterns. These patterns resonate in harmony with the patterns on textiles of noble creamy shade, which is used in upholstering of the furniture. Furniture inlay is completed by dark wood and charming elements in the form of lace, draperies and soft silk cushions. Bedroom interior is a true aesthetic pleasure. Luxurious bed is comparable to a work of art. High headboard is decorated with soft velvet panel from a natural shade of cocoa with milk and supplemented with delicious swirls of carved decoration. The wall behind the headboard was the harmonious continuation of this beautiful image. It is decorated with noble silk, which is draped in soft folds. Owners’ dream about the interior in Dubai became a great reality, which has gained quite a clear outline and luxurious forms. This is a holiday of luxury that will give them a lot of pleasant moments.
