Gut renovation of 1880's townhouse. New vertical circulation and dramatic rooftop skylight bring light deep in to the middle of the house. A new stair to roof and roof deck complete the light-filled vertical volume. Programmatically, the house was flipped: private spaces and bedrooms are on lower floors, and the open plan Living Room, Dining Room, and Kitchen is located on the 3rd floor to take advantage of the high ceiling and beautiful views. A new oversized front window on 3rd floor provides stunning views across New York Harbor to Lower Manhattan. The renovation also included many sustainable and resilient features, such as the mechanical systems were moved to the roof, radiant floor heating, triple glazed windows, reclaimed timber framing, and lots of daylighting. This garage in Vero Beach, Florida had our epoxy and polyaspartic flake floor coating installed along with garage cabinets. Now the customer's Vero Beach garage has functional garage storage and a durable floor coating that replaced his old peeling garage floor paint.

Mid-sized trendy wooden straight open staircase photo in DC Metro

The clients are avid art collectors with great eye for detail. They presented us with a beautiful open space in the middle of the row hose with an over sized sky light directly over the opening. I have always been inspired by the great works of M.C Escher, so I put pencil to paper, or in this case mouse to AutoCad. A few days later, I presented the clients with my ideas and they loved the idea. The results are a single steel stringer floating stairs, with 2" thick maple wood treads, and side mounted clear glass railing. When you sit on the main floor, and look up at the skylight, you see what I sketched.

Sarabi Studio designed, fabricated and installed this unique ribbon stair case for a Austin, TX residence. The stairs are constructed from 3/16" thick steel plate and the center support is a single seamless steel tube. The stairs lead from a office up to a roof top terrace with stunning views of the city in the distance. Sarabi Studio, Austin, TX
