San Juan Capistrano Glass Contemporary Modern Wine Cellar Wine Wall Wine Room

Vintage Cellars & Saunas

This beautiful custom wine cellar / wine wall / wine room in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, California is truly a jaw dropper. Vintage Cellars, wine cellar builders out of san diego, california, were able to design and build this masterpiece as a major centerpoint of this dining room and kitchen. A custom wine cellar designed and built by vintage wine cellars out of San Diego, California - this custom wine wall has tons of unique and noteworthy features throughout. The bottom of the cellar begins with multiple areas for wine case storage and other bulk storage options. The great thing about this space is that it was designed for multi-use capability, leaving ample room to store multiple layers deep of single bottle storage as well. Directly above the case storage lie multiple layers of easy pull out shelving on smooth rolling tracks, seamlessly allowing for drawer sliding with no risk of bottle movement or abrupt stops. These are fantastic features to have, especially in the case of having flights of wines from your favorite wineries. A collection of 2010 through 2016 Larkmeade Cabernet Sauvignon bottles from Napa have never looked so good. In the center, a small countertop and opening are used for a practical space to open and decant wines. Glass shelving features and acrylic wine racking dividers make for a fun, transparent, and sleek looking centerpiece. On either side of this wine wall feature / kitchen wine cellar are long rows of high reveal display of wine bottles, carefully designed and engineered to lay down properly so that the cork will stay wet and wines are aged perfectly and gracefully over time. These display rows act as fantastic "show off" sections - perfectly highlighting each bottle's respective label and giving you the ability to really display your gems. More sections sit above these displays, turning the bottles inward and facing them cork out. In this certain circumstance and with this specific client's collection, these sections really popped with color and intrigue with many cases of the same wines being placed into the racking. Intense hues of Red and Yellow POP, keeping this wine cellar interesting and a pleasure to look at no matter what section you're exploring. Horizontal stainless steel metal rods are Integrated into the custom cabinetry horizontally and angled across each multiple sections, again offering another unique and different design feature, now with wine bottle labels facing outward and completely visible. This look in custom wine wall / custom wine cellar / custom wine room / custom wine display / custom wine storage solutions is a great way to integrate modern nuances into your cellar. Accents of metal into an otherwise "traditional" wooden wine cellar can actually add a unique change of pace and give an entire new breath of life to an existing wine storage space. 700 bottle capacity, with room for magnum storage above. Vintage Cellars enjoys working directly with NOE Design Co. and MAIDEN Steel companies when integrating a major glass door feature. The quality of work is second to none, unparalleled, and we are able to ensure that our clients are left with an absolutely stunning, but more importantly, 100% perfectly sealed and specified door and stainless steel framing system. With so many different kinds of wine racks / wine racking / wine cellar designs and styles, you can really go in any and every direction in the discovery and design phase of a custom wine cellar project. Lakota Residence

EVA Architecture, LLC

The Lakota Residence occupies a spectacular 10-acre site in the hills above northwest Portland, Oregon. The residence consists of a main house of nearly 10,000 sf and a caretakers cottage/guest house of 1,200 sf over a shop/garage. Both have been sited to capture the four mountain Cascade panorama plus views to the city and the Columbia River gorge while maintaining an internal privacy. The buildings are set in a highly manicured and refined immediate site set within a largely forested environment complete with a variety of wildlife. Successful business people, the owners desired an elegant but "edgey" retreat that would accommodate an active social life while still functional as "mission control" for their construction materials business. There are days at a time when business is conducted from Lakota. The three-level main house has been benched into an edge of the site. Entry to the middle or main floor occurs from the south with the entry framing distant views to Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. Conceived as a ruin upon which a modernist house has been built, the radiused and largely opaque stone wall anchors a transparent steel and glass north elevation that consumes the view. Recreational spaces and garage occupy the lower floor while the upper houses sleeping areas at the west end and office functions to the east. Obsessive with their concern for detail, the owners were involved daily on site during the construction process. Much of the interiors were sketched on site and mocked up at full scale to test formal concepts. Eight years from site selection to move in, the Lakota Residence is a project of the old school process.

Tower Grove I

Mangum Design-Build, Inc.

The Glenhill house settles gracefully into a mature pine forest, its form composed as a quiet study of light, proportion, and crafted detail. A two-story residence lifted above a drive-through garage, it is designed as a sequence of framed views — each room capturing the vertical rhythm of pines, shifting daylight, and the subtle movement of the landscape. Boundaries dissolve as floor-to-ceiling glass opens living spaces to broad terraces and cantilevered balconies, allowing the forest to inhabit the interior as much as the residents inhabit the site. A finely tuned steel frame enables deep overhangs and slender structural lines, giving the house its floating clarity. These long spans soften the transition between indoors and out, casting calibrated shadows across stone floors and hand-finished wood surfaces. Every junction, from the precision-cut steel connections to the custom millwork, reflects an elevated commitment to craft. Materials are chosen not only for their beauty but for the way they register light—the warmth of timber, the quiet solidity of stone, the reflective sheen of metal. The owner’s collection of art integrates seamlessly into the architectural language. Display walls and open sightlines turn circulation paths into gallery promenades, while the garage level becomes both threshold and exhibition space for the automobile collection. At dusk, the home glows lantern-like within the pines, revealing a composition where structure, material, and nature are held in delicate balance. It is a dwelling shaped less as an object in the woods and more as a crafted extension of the forest itself. The project began with an unexpected challenge: the original lot, once selected for its beauty, became untenable when neighboring homeowners objected to the presence of a modern house. Rather than compromise the vision, the team embraced a new site, one even more deeply woven into the pine forest, and treated the change as an opportunity to refine the project’s relationship to nature and craft. Working within a densely wooded parcel required choreography as much as construction. Limited access routes, the need to preserve mature trees, and the precision demands of steel erection shaped a carefully phased process. Contractors navigated the site with restraint, placing each piece of steel like a line of poetry between trunks. The resulting frame, powerful yet minimal, was later infilled with lumber to create a hybrid system — efficient, warm, and capable of carrying cantilevers far beyond what wood alone could achieve. These extended overhangs became the project’s quiet gesture of shelter and shadow. Collaboration with the interior designer was integral to the home’s harmony. Together, the team refined material transitions so stone, wood, and metal could pass from exterior to interior with a single visual glance. Craftsmanship elevated everyday moments: concealed hardware, sculpted millwork, and the sourcing of a solid limestone soaking tub, carved from a single block, all contribute to the home’s sense of intentional calm. What emerged is a house shaped by constraint, strengthened by collaboration, and refined through an unwavering commitment to detail — an architectural refuge where complexity was transformed into clarity, and obstacles into opportunities for deeper expression. Material selection became an essential extension of the home’s design philosophy, reinforcing the crafted clarity of each space. Hand-selected stone slabs were book-matched for the fireplace and bath walls, creating veined compositions that read like natural murals. Custom- built windows, engineered with specialty-coated glazing and rigorously pressure-tested, provide both protection and extraordinary visual transparency. Above, concealed truss framing houses recessed air diffusers and hidden shades, allowing ceilings to remain quiet and uninterrupted. The horizontal planes of the flat roof are achieved with a commercial-grade membrane system, delivering the crisp, modern silhouette the design demands. At the exterior, natural stone grounds the home to its site, stitching the architecture to the forest floor and rooting the dwelling in the land from which its materials are drawn.

Central Park Apartment

Neumann & Rudy Architecture

**I. Spatial Composition & Architectural Volume** This powder room operates as a compressed, processional vestibule — a jewel-box volume whose narrowness is deliberately weaponized to intensify the encounter with a single focal event. The plan reads as a tight rectilinear corridor, entered obliquely past a pivoting sculptural door leaf at the left foreground, with the sightline funnelling directly to a recessed alcove at the terminal wall. That alcove is the compositional engine of the room: a deep, orthogonal reveal framed in slender blackened-metal profiles, within which a monolithic marble vanity cantilevers as a full-width plinth, its shadow-gap plinth detail dissolving the mass into apparent levitation. The full-height glazed screens flanking both side walls — divided into a disciplined grid of stile-and-rail metal mullions above a stone dado — introduce a Miesian rhythm of verticals that visually widen the space while preserving enclosure. Above, a crisp plaster soffit with a razor-thin perimeter reveal caps the volume, while the mullion grid's continuation across the ceiling plane and door surround creates a cage-like armature, an architectural drawing rendered in three dimensions. The suspended, wall-hung water closet at left is deliberately subordinated, half-concealed by the stone return, ensuring the axial procession terminates not on plumbing but on art. **II. Materiality, Color & Texture** The material palette is orchestrated as a controlled dialogue between the geologic, the vegetal, and the metallic. Book-matched Calacatta Viola — or a closely related Paonazzo — sheathes the dado and vanity in slabs whose oxblood, umber, and graphite veining reads as gestural brushwork, its cool bone-white ground counterweighted by the warm ferrous rust of its fissures; the veining on the right-hand wall is sequenced to cascade, treating stone as a continuous painterly field rather than a modular cladding. Against this, the foreground door presents a deeply carved, three-dimensional sculpted timber relief in a mid-tone oak or walnut, its undulating, plaited chevron texture introducing a haptic, almost textile-like tactility that provides the composition's most overtly artisanal register. The glazed screens deploy reeded or fluted glass in a smoky sage-olive cast, their striations diffusing and abstracting whatever lies beyond into vertical striae of light — a translucent counterpoint to the opacity of stone and wood. Blackened bronze or patinated steel mullions supply the graphic scaffolding, while unlacquered brass appears as accent punctuation: the gooseneck spout with exposed swivel collar, and, most emphatically, the flame-patinated bronze oval of the mirror frame, whose molten amber bloom is the single high-saturation event in an otherwise desaturated envelope of greys, greiges, and bone. Underfoot, chevron-laid oak parquet in a soft tobacco stain grounds the palette and repeats the door's zigzag geometry at a domestic scale. **III. Lighting, Atmosphere & Style Profile** Lighting is handled with theatrical restraint and a distinctly museological logic. The terminal alcove is backlit by a full-height plane of sheer, pinch-pleated linen sheers washed with daylight — an ambiguous, screened luminance that functions as a lightbox, silhouetting the mirror and reading as a window without conceding a view. Concealed cove or perimeter LED at the soffit reveal lifts the ceiling and grazes the plaster, while the reeded glass side screens capture and refract borrowed light along their flutes, producing a soft vertical shimmer that keeps the narrow volume from collapsing into gloom. The lower register is intentionally darker, the recessed shadow gap beneath the vanity and the bronze toe detail anchoring the composition in a low-key, chiaroscuro base. The atmosphere is hushed, contemplative, and faintly ecclesiastical — the alcove operating as a reredos, the framed portrait glimpsed in the mirror's reflection functioning as an unexpected, wry apparition that injects narrative and humor into an otherwise austere scheme. Stylistically, the room synthesizes into what might be termed *Tactile Luxe Modernism* or Refined Warm Modernism: the structural clarity and metal-gridded transparency of mid-century International Style, tempered by Italian post-war sensuality in the bronze and marble, and finally humanized by contemporary craft-forward texture. The result is a space of considerable discipline that nonetheless privileges touch, patina, and surprise over minimalist abstinence.
