We rose to the challenge, researching the best options for sustainable, green and chemical free furnishings. The upholstery pieces are made from sustainable and chemical free materials, the dining table is made of sustainable wood with a chemical free finish. The rugs are from a fair-trade company that supports education for women in India. The client had hired a Feng Shui expert to provide her with a report which we used to design the space. The wallpaper behind the living room sofa is custom designed and custom-made. It is a map made up of hundred of small photos that the homeowner provided to us. It represents the area in her home that will bring travel and connect her to the people she loves. The large, colorful art piece in the dining area is hung in the area of the home that will bring joy around family and children. The hearts and pink/red colored wallpaper in the den will evoke love and relationships. The client has a colorful, fun personality and we wanted to infuse the design with it. A white backdrop allows all of the pinks, reds, navy blues and turquoises to pop, creating a lively, modern feeling. The textures in the floor and wall coverings and in the fabrics create a lived in, collected feeling and add a touch of bohemian chic style. The new modern cable and walnut stair banister is in keeping with the original modern feel of the row house and keeps the narrow staircase from feeling tight and closed in. This was a fun, creative and unique project for us. This particular client was one of Olamar's first clients eight years ago when we first opened our doors. At that time the house was nothing but a condemned shell that the client renovated, with our assistance. An over scaled family room with dark original shadow box paneling, large Carthage stone fireplace, and leaded windows, required a design esthetic that paid homage to the history of the home, yet created a space for entertaining large groups, while at the same time feeling warm and comfortable, and would also allow the homeowners to take Sunday naps in the often unused room. With the entry to the home also included in the overall dimensions, creating definition without walls was the challenge. Using an antique table that was purchased by the client many years ago as an entry table was the perfect answer. We took the Italian chandelier from the dining room, had it refinished to look old, and re-hung it as the entry fixture. An antique, nearly 18’ foot rug was found, and was the anchor to the room. Over scaled sofa’s, large cocktail truck, antique console tables, new “shiny” lamps, modern tables, and plush pillows all add to the warmth of this space. The room was also painted a warm gray/green to pull all the warm colors and textures together. Request Cabinet Quote from Showcase KitchensThe focal point of this Neo-Classical kitchen was designed to be the custom hood area. It’s the first thing you see when walking down the main hallway. The hand chiseled, custom stone hood was originally designed to be made out of wood. We decided on using stone, which was made in Italy, for a more dramatic approach and in the end was more cost effective. This spacious kitchen was designed to be highly functional for entertaining. The double islands, each having their own sink, allow for plenty of room and separate stations for prepping, organizing and cleaning. The kitchen also features a butler’s pantry which includes a custom farmhouse marble sink and a 30” Thermador double electric wall oven. Another area that is inviting and operates as a gathering location, is the bar. Ernesto and his team chose a pyramid style door panel and curved legs at the end of the bar. These were inspired from some old furniture pieces the team had come across. Unique, subtle scroll work added to the legs was done by a local artist. Unique Features The Bentwood custom cabinets, from the kitchen to the laundry room, were truly unique as well. Ernesto and his team worked closely with the engineers and finishers, even traveling to Dallas, to make sure the colors and door details were perfect. A chevron oak flooring finished this kitchen off nicely adding detail and depth to the overall look. The Thermador built in refrigerator and freezer were placed in an optimal location that is easily accessible. The cooking area consists of a 48” Thermador unit with a Sharp microwave drawer. Even in the laundry room, no detail was overlooked. With plenty of space and storage, it features pull-down laundry hangers, large laundry bins, and a folding station.
