US studio Office III has constructed a visitors' centre for Governors Island in New York City using marine-grade plywood and cedar decking. The pavilion is the first-ever welcome centre for Governors Island, and was added to help tourists better navigate the small island in the city's harbour. It lies just 800 yards (732 metres) from Manhattan's southern-most tip, and reachable by ferry from both there or downtown Brooklyn. The Friends of Governors Island asked Office III to design the wooden structure, but with a few constraints: it had to be prefabricated, temporary and portable, and pitched to them just six weeks later. The studio – founded by Stephanie Lin, Ryan Golenberg, and Sean Canty from Harvard's Graduate School of Design – looked to the island's Georgian Revival-style barracks and two military forts for subtle references.A butterfly roof covers an 800-square-foot (74-square-metre) wooden deck to protect visitors from the sun, while remaining open to the grassy lawn. Underneath, an information kiosk is the only fully enclosed structure. Polycarbonate windows and slatted wood serve as semi-walls, which create triangular nooks and lounging areas. Office III collaborated with Laufs Engineering Design for structural engineering. The team chose timber louvres to resist the vertical loads of the roof, while a pentagon-shaped core supports the floor deck. Marine-grade plywood lines the interior, while cedar planks cover the exterior. Both materials are resilient to New York's infamous summer rainstorms. he centre's "Welcome" sign showcases the same lettering used around the island. Design agency Pentagram created the custom typeface, titled Guppy Sans, for Governors Island in 2014.

Backbay Modern House Numbers (modernhousenumbers.com) available in 4", 6", 8", 12" or 15" high. aluminum numbers are 3/8" thick, brushed finish with a high quality clear coat and a 1/2" standoff providing a subtle shadow. {delighted by this customer photo} DJ's house numbers look great on his steel site wall. the backbay typeface in aluminum creates a great contrast against the corten. - customer photo

An exterior rendering of a 1990s Contemporary style home that has been updated. The vertical siding is painted black, with all trim to match. At the Entry, the overhanging gable is supported by wood posts and beam which have concrete post bases. The windows have white frames and grids. The double entry doors are wood with three glass lights to match the wood finish on the posts. A privacy wall near the driveway has black siding to match the house with brass house numbers in a modern typeface.

In glamorous fashion, a Japanese style bath is created with two different levels, suggesting a sense of grandness and luxury. An overlarge bathing pool with descending steps descend down into a pool large enough for four. Flanked by custom Frette towels in Art Deco typeface, the bath further illustrates the grace and grandesse of the time.
