The upper level of this gorgeous Trex deck is the central entertaining and dining space and includes a beautiful concrete fire table and a custom cedar bench that floats over the deck. Light brown custom cedar screen walls provide privacy along the landscaped terrace and compliment the warm hues of the decking. Clean, modern light fixtures are also present in the deck steps, along the deck perimeter, and throughout the landscape making the space well-defined in the evening as well as the daytime.

This baby boomer couple recently settled in the Haymarket area. Their bathroom was located behind the garage from which we took a few inches to contribute to the bathroom space, offering them a large walk in shower, with Digital controls designed for multiple shower heads . With a new waterfall free standing tub/ faucet slipper tub taking the space of the old large decked tub. We used a Victoria & Albert modern free standing tub, which brought spa feel to the room. The old space from the closet was used to create enough space for the bench area. It has a modern look linear drain in wet room. Adding a decorative touch and more lighting, is a beautiful chandelier outside of the wet room. Behind the new commode area is a niche. New vanities, sleek, yet spacious, allowing for more storage. The large mirror and hidden medicine cabinets with decorative lighting added more of the contemporariness to the space. Around this bath, we used large space tile. With a Classic look of black and white tile that complement the mosaic tile used creatively, making this bathroom undeniably stunning. The smart use of mosaic tile on the back wall of the shower and tub area has put this project on the cover sheet of most design magazine. The privacy wall offers closure for the commode from the front entry. Classy yet simple is how they described their new master bath suite.

Inspiration for a large mediterranean entryway remodel in Minneapolis with a glass front door

Walking into this reimagined primary bath feels like stepping into a boutique spa. The entire space is wrapped in a soft, barely-there blush-white wall color that reads almost like warm light itself, creating an instantly calming atmosphere that the design then builds upon thoughtfully. Twin sage blue-gray vanities run along both sides of the room, each finished in a shaker-style painted cabinetry with polished chrome bar pulls and topped with a gorgeous Calacatta-style quartz — the same material flowing seamlessly across countertops and up as a low backsplash. Above each vanity hang individual black rounded-rectangle mirrors with matching chrome picture-light sconces, creating a clean, modern hotel-bath aesthetic that feels crisp without being cold. The walk-in shower is the undeniable heart of the room — a generous double-entry wet room featuring dual rainfall showerheads, dual handheld wand fixtures, and a natural light source through a privacy glass window that floods the space with soft, diffused daylight. Large format white wall tile set in a simple grid pattern keeps the shower feeling expansive and serene, while large-format Calacatta marble-look porcelain tile on the floor carries the quartz veining language from the vanities underfoot throughout the entire bathroom. A polished chrome heated towel rack mounted on the bathroom wall adds a luxurious, spa-grade detail — warm towels waiting after every shower. A teak wood bath mat on the floor completes the spa atmosphere perfectly. The Laundry Room Just steps away, the laundry room received an equally remarkable transformation — one that proves this hardworking space can be just as design-forward as any other room in the house. Deep hunter green painted cabinetry with brushed brass bar pulls commands the room from floor to ceiling, creating a rich, dramatic palette that feels collected and intentional rather than builder-grade. Upper shaker-style cabinets maximize storage above the machines, while a tall pantry-style column cabinet on the end wall provides floor-to-ceiling concealed storage for supplies. A painted shiplap accent panel between the upper cabinets and the counter is fitted with a row of brass coat hooks — a dual-purpose detail that adds texture and hang space for bags and reusable totes. The counter surface in white quartz sits above the side-by-side front-load washer and dryer, creating a functional folding station. A white square tile backsplash behind the machines adds a clean, easy-care surface that holds its own against the bold green cabinetry. A built-in wood bench with open storage below creates a secondary mudroom function, while a warm-toned live-edge wood floating shelf adds organic contrast. A custom built walnut open bookcase tucked at the room's end provides stylish overflow storage that gives the space personality beyond its utility.

Our client loves deep jewel tones and this first floor home office delivers. Her in-person meeting attendees are made quite comfortable in the luxurious, emerald velvet guest chairs. The desk was painted and color matched to the chairs for an undeniably elegant look and feel. The light fixture above her desk belonged to a family member and was important to our client so we included it in the design to give a sense of personalization and bring in a sense of closeness to her loved ones. For this office space, we did floor-to-ceiling custom built-ins. These are not your typical built-ins. With wide shelving that allowed for intrigue with house art and large scale accessories. Zoom background envy, anyone?

About five years ago, these homeowners saw the potential in a brick-and-oak-heavy, wallpaper-bedecked, 1990s-in-all-the-wrong-ways home tucked in a wooded patch among fields somewhere between Indianapolis and Bloomington. Their first project with SYH was a kitchen remodel, a total overhaul completed by JL Benton Contracting, that added color and function for this family of three (not counting the cats). A couple years later, they were knocking on our door again to strip the ensuite bedroom of its ruffled valences and red carpet—a bold choice that ran right into the bathroom (!)—and make it a serene retreat. Color and function proved the goals yet again, and JL Benton was back to make the design reality. The clients thoughtfully chose to maximize their budget in order to get a whole lot of bells and whistles—details that undeniably change their daily experience of the space. The fantastic zero-entry shower is composed of handmade tile from Heath Ceramics of California. A window where the was none, a handsome teak bench, thoughtful niches, and Kohler fixtures in vibrant brushed nickel finish complete the shower. Custom mirrors and cabinetry by Stoll’s Woodworking, in both the bathroom and closet, elevate the whole design. What you don't see: heated floors, which everybody needs in Indiana. A Carmel, California homeowner is enjoying a two-tone kitchen with a rustic farmhouse feel and slight but undeniable industrial vibe. This kitchen was created with Urban Effects Cabinetry’s Pioneer door style in HDF (high density fiberboard). The perimeter cabinet color is Woodgate. The island cabinet color is Cloud White. Handmade subway tile, commercial grade appliances—and let's not forget the stunning ceiling—work together to create an incredible transformation. This 2,700 square-foot renovation of an existing brick structure has provided a stunning, year round vacation home in the Lake Sunapee region. Located on the same footprint as the original brick structure, the new, one-story residence is oriented on the site to take advantage of the expansive views of Mts. Sunapee and Kearsarge. By implementing a mix of siding treatments, textures and materials, and unique rooflines the home complements the surrounding site, and caps off the top of the grassy hill. New entertainment rooms and porches are located so that the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains are always prominent. Dressed in bright and airy colors, the spaces welcome conversation and relaxation in spectacular settings. The design of three unique spaces, each of which experience the site differently, contributed to the overall layout of the residence. From the Adirondack chairs on the colonnaded porch to the cushioned sofas of the sunroom, personalized touches of exquisite taste provide an undeniably comforting atmosphere to the site. Original art and antique decorative andirons from the homeowner's extensive collection relate to the golden brass hardware on the X-legs and the stately character of the campaign desk that they had asked for. The diamond grill pattern of the windows contributes to the undeniable tudor revival style of the home's design. A marble fireplace surround, the light walnut finish of the desk, and personal items including the rug, chair and ottoman add to the inviting mood of this room for study.
