The homeowner's wide range of tastes coalesces in this lovely kitchen and mudroom. Vintage, modern, English, and mid-century styles form one eclectic and alluring space. Rift-sawn white oak cabinets in warm almond, textured white subway tile, white island top, and a custom white range hood lend lots of brightness while black perimeter countertops and a Laurel Woods deep green finish on the island and beverage bar balance the palette with a unique twist on farmhouse style.

Designing and staging luxury loft properties in a large city like Los Angeles is an art unto itself. Here in this space (one of three unique lofts) we designed a space that would appeal to the elegant professional. Our mission: Give these small spaces BIG CITY impact, a trending modern elegance, and a warm, "home" feeling. This couple came to us as newly transplanted homeowners in Sterling, MA, uprooted from Rochester, MA so they could be closer to their growing family and granddaughter. The former kitchen was a bit of a “Plain Jane”, but we transformed it into a charming, modern country farmhouse kitchen. The custom paint color on the cabinets came from a Wood-Mode sample called “Agate.” This lovely paint color is a chameleon, ranging from gray/green, to a beautiful blue hue depending on the lighting conditions. The uniqueness of this color is what caught the homeowner’s eye and it has become a customer favorite. This Sterling home is the perfect setting for such a beautiful color! As a trained chef and former restaurant owner, the husband does all the cooking in the house. Ample room was needed for prepping and serving, so he loves the long, wide peninsula. A full-height quartz backsplash behind the range and sink make for easy clean up. Very deep drawers flank both sides of the range, and the top drawer has special storage for spices. The cabinet over the refrigerator has vertical partitions for both cookie sheets, trays and pans. A tall pantry to the right of the refrigerator is equipped with heavy duty wood rollouts perfect for storing dry goods. Conveniently located to the right of the sink is a double trash cabinet. The end of the peninsula also has a 27” wide cabinet with dual rollouts storing small appliances, casserole dishes & Tupperware. The new space has plenty of room for prepping, cooking and entertaining family and guests in the adjacent dining room. Stepping outside the “white & gray” of common paints into this beautiful custom color has delighted these customers and their friends. We find it both inviting and soothing, a cool color that will be stylish for years to come! Saturday June 27, 4:00 to 5:30pm | Manhattan Pool Farm by David Seiter of Future Green Studio High above Midtown Manhattan, this transformed rooftop pool is now a farm-to-table restaurant, the Press Lounge, offering guests a dazzling view of the New York City skyline. From the 19th floor of Ink Hotel, a beautifully designed edible garden is meticulously cared for to create seasonal food and drink options from ingredients grown onsite. Utilizing themes of material reuse and urban infill, this custom design and fabricated system of wood terraced planters transforms an underutilized rooftop pool into a dynamic private dining experience. The project is inspired by the structure of a sushi mat- with flexibility in one direction and rigidity in the other, the mat rolls fluidly from deck to bench to planter to wall. In an effort to make the project sustainable and cost effective, ipe wood decking was salvaged from a recent renovation and repurposed. The planting palette was selected in consultation with the restaurant’s chef, professional forager and a rooftop farmer in order to orchestrate the edible garden with unique seasonal food and drink menus. For the reno of this two-bedroom, high-rise condo overlooking the Chicago River, our design team was tapped to touch every surface while infusing the footprint with sophistication and timeless glamour. FOR A DECIDEDLY MODERN FEEL WITH TEMPERED MOMENTS OF DRAMA, WE OPTED FOR BOLD MATERIALS AND COLORS, INCLUDING DYNAMIC BLUE ROMA QUARTZITE FOR THE KITCHEN AND BAR. Intent on making the home a unique reflection of its owners, a couple who love hosting friends and family on the regular, we set the stage for elevated entertaining, leaning into statement-making design choices for the main living spaces. A geometric media wall in the living room, for example, commands attention via custom millwork boxes of varying depths, each punctuated by beautiful slabs of backlit onyx. Playful geometries continue in the presentation-worthy kitchen, where intersecting volumes and mixed materials define a bar top, an island counter, and a dining table. Here, a striking Sub-Zero/Wolf appliance suite, including a floor-to-ceiling wine fridge, makes functionality utterly fabulous. Incorporating white oak hardwood and gorgeous porcelain tile, every inch of flooring was updated for seamless continuity. Living room - huge modern open concept living room idea in DC Metro

Located in the beautiful Rice University area of Houston, HOUSE 2344 is the 3rd project designed for this repeat client. This design is truly a collaboration between designer and owner; infused with elements acquired from living overseas in Asia and Europe combined with materials and qualities from 2 previous home designs the project is a reflection of their unique personalities. A series of inwardly sloping butterfly type roofs are organized along a central spine above the circulation zone of the house. Main common areas and bedrooms key into this axis and are telegraphed up to the roof planes above. The 2-story structure flips the common arrangement of spaces locating the living / dining / kitchen on the 2nd floor with a soaring dynamic ceiling scape in order to have the bedrooms on the more serene and restful ground level. The mass of the house is intentionally pushed away from the street side of the lot allowing the pool and yard area to act as a buffer for the interior and to guarantee the exterior will always be open and sunny without any adjacent buildings. The Owner cultivates an extensive herb, vegetable, and fruit garden along with fresh egg-laying chickens to use in eclectic home cooked meals. Typical manicure lawns and feature trees are avoided in favor of natural wild flower landscaping that changes with the seasons.

This modern farmhouse located outside of Spokane, Washington, creates a prominent focal point among the landscape of rolling plains. The composition of the home is dominated by three steep gable rooflines linked together by a central spine. This unique design evokes a sense of expansion and contraction from one space to the next. Vertical cedar siding, poured concrete, and zinc gray metal elements clad the modern farmhouse, which, combined with a shop that has the aesthetic of a weathered barn, creates a sense of modernity that remains rooted to the surrounding environment. The Glo double pane A5 Series windows and doors were selected for the project because of their sleek, modern aesthetic and advanced thermal technology over traditional aluminum windows. High performance spacers, low iron glass, larger continuous thermal breaks, and multiple air seals allows the A5 Series to deliver high performance values and cost effective durability while remaining a sophisticated and stylish design choice. Strategically placed operable windows paired with large expanses of fixed picture windows provide natural ventilation and a visual connection to the outdoors.

The platform bed sits directly on the floor with the platform edge extending slightly beyond the frame. The headboard highlights the dark and light wood grain that is unique to Solid Wood. The bedroom set also includes two end table mini cabinets with an open bottom shelf and a handy top drawer. The sleek nightstands are perched on an interior base. The top is flush to frame. This home remodel is a celebration of curves and light. Starting from humble beginnings as a basic builder ranch style house, the design challenge was maximizing natural light throughout and providing the unique contemporary style the client’s craved. The Entry offers a spectacular first impression and sets the tone with a large skylight and an illuminated curved wall covered in a wavy pattern Porcelanosa tile. The chic entertaining kitchen was designed to celebrate a public lifestyle and plenty of entertaining. Celebrating height with a robust amount of interior architectural details, this dynamic kitchen still gives one that cozy feeling of home sweet home. The large “L” shaped island accommodates 7 for seating. Large pendants over the kitchen table and sink provide additional task lighting and whimsy. The Dekton “puzzle” countertop connection was designed to aid the transition between the two color countertops and is one of the homeowner’s favorite details. The built-in bistro table provides additional seating and flows easily into the Living Room. A curved wall in the Living Room showcases a contemporary linear fireplace and tv which is tucked away in a niche. Placing the fireplace and furniture arrangement at an angle allowed for more natural walkway areas that communicated with the exterior doors and the kitchen working areas. The dining room’s open plan is perfect for small groups and expands easily for larger events. Raising the ceiling created visual interest and bringing the pop of teal from the Kitchen cabinets ties the space together. A built-in buffet provides ample storage and display. The Sitting Room (also called the Piano room for its previous life as such) is adjacent to the Kitchen and allows for easy conversation between chef and guests. It captures the homeowner’s chic sense of style and joie de vivre.

The clients desired an intimate, yet dynamic family residence that reflected the beauty of the site and the lifestyle of the San Juan Islands. The house was built to be both a place to gather for large dinners with friends and family as well as a cozy home for the couple when they are there alone. The project is located on a stunning, but cripplingly-restricted site overlooking Griffin Bay on San Juan Island. The most practical area to build was exactly where three beautiful old growth trees had already chosen to live. A prior architect, in a prior design, had proposed chopping them down and building right in the middle of the site. From our perspective, the trees were an important essence of the site and respectfully had to be preserved. As a result we squeezed the programmatic requirements, kept the clients on a square foot restriction and pressed tight against property setbacks. The delineate concept is a stone wall that sweeps from the parking to the entry, through the house and out the other side, terminating in a hook that nestles the master shower. This is the symbolic and functional shield between the public road and the private living spaces of the home owners. All the primary living spaces and the master suite are on the water side, the remaining rooms are tucked into the hill on the road side of the wall. Off-setting the solid massing of the stone walls is a pavilion which grabs the views and the light to the south, east and west. Built in a position to be hammered by the winter storms the pavilion, while light and airy in appearance and feeling, is constructed of glass, steel, stout wood timbers and doors with a stone roof and a slate floor. The glass pavilion is anchored by two concrete panel chimneys; the windows are steel framed and the exterior skin is of powder coated steel sheathing.

Multi-functional spaces are here to stay! We created a built-in as the focal point in the space for storage, a freestanding desk and bar cart, and a separate zone to maximize additional seating for this dreamy office. We love the stained beams and decorative light as well. Studio KW Photography
