Bedroom - shabby-chic style bedroom idea in Los Angeles with white walls

This lovingly restored Winnetka Heights Craftsman home was a pleasure to work on. My clients, a young married couple with two sweet pups, enjoy collecting unique items from their travels and loved ones and wanted to incorporate them in the design. This was a special project for me because it aligns with my philosophy that our home should be a reflection of who we are. My goal was to pair these bespoke collectibles with modern and new furnishings, fabrics, and fixtures to create a harmonized design that truly reflected their nostalgic and well-traveled style. My approach involved enhancing the home’s character and charm while adding personalized details and modern touches. I reused preexisting furniture pieces, reupholstered chairs, and repurposed light fixtures to capitalize on sustainable and creative design all while focusing on strategic furniture placement and smart selections. From the photographs taken by her father in the dining room to the old coins framed and labeled in the front room, each item in their home told a unique story. The final result was a cohesive and personalized space that my client can joyfully call their home, reflecting their unique style and love for travel and bespoke items.

Drystack stone walls anchor the kitchen. As one of the central focuses of the home, it nourishes the soul as much as the body. Over-sized appliances accommodate gatherings of just about any size and the cabinetry and pantries all engage the fabric of the home so that they feel integral to it's identity. Our client desired a bespoke farmhouse kitchen and sought unique items to create this one of a kind farmhouse kitchen their family. We transformed this kitchen by changing the orientation, removed walls and opened up the exterior with a 3 panel stacking door. The oversized pendants are the subtle frame work for an artfully made metal hood cover. The statement hood which I discovered on one of my trips inspired the design and added flare and style to this home. Nothing is as it seems, the white cabinetry looks like shaker until you look closer it is beveled for a sophisticated finish upscale finish. The backsplash looks like subway until you look closer it is actually 3d concave tile that simply looks like it was formed around a wine bottle. We added the coffered ceiling and wood flooring to create this warm enhanced featured of the space. The custom cabinetry then was made to match the oak wood on the ceiling. The pedestal legs on the island enhance the characterizes for the cerused oak cabinetry. Fabulous clients make fabulous projects.

This family has many beautiful and unique Items we integrated in the home design. The pieces from their international travels included furnishings, original artwork, a hand carved wall hanging and wooden elephant, silk, oriental and animal rugs. We created new spaces for their lifestyle with pieces for seating area and a work area. We added some new light fixtures and reupholstered the dining room chairs. Our custom workroom constructed our design for bedding and draperies for the Master Bedroom which was painted a lighter wall color. We reworked the children's rooms with collections they love. The family room got a refresh with new chairs, lights, and a fun print on the pillows. The home is enjoyed by all. Photography: Michael Hunter
