Jennifer Hazen from Reico Kitchen and Bath in Charlottesville, VA, collaborated with Nick Greenwood of Prevail Construction to create a transitional kitchen design featuring Merillat Masterpiece cabinetry. The kitchen’s perimeter cabinets feature the Montresano door style in a Moonshine finish, while the beverage bar and wall cabinets are in a Lagoon finish. The countertop is MSI Q Calacatta Miraggio Cielo. The kitchen also features a Whirlpool beverage refrigerator and an 18” full height quartz backsplash in the same color as the countertop for clean, continuous look and feel. The client, delighted with the project outcome, shared their experience. “Our project involved a complete demolition of four areas—our Kitchen, Bathroom, Pantry, and Laundry Room. These were all combined into one open space Kitchen area. Jennifer has excellent taste and skillfully recommended elements that seamlessly came together to create a functional, aesthetically pleasing kitchen. The level of detail that she put into the plan amazed me and it ensured that all of the contractors knew exactly what to do.” “We are extremely happy with the outcome of the kitchen. The open space is very functional and makes using our kitchen a joy. Thank you Reico and Jennifer for such a positive experience!” Jennifer shared insights into the labor of love behind the design, stating, “The most challenging part was concealing a full-size stackable washer/dryer within a run that included a double oven, a 36" refrigerator, and an unmovable wall due to water pipes. We bumped everything out to 36" to create a functional face-frame for laundry, double oven, and a 9" pantry.” During the planning stage, Jennifer expressed her excitement about the homeowners embracing unique design elements. Star Wars: The Force Awakens Murals in a bedroom by Tom Taylor of Mural Art LLC. The theme for the room was to create the bridge of a star destroyer from Star Wars. Being a huge Star Wars fan myself, I was thrilled to have had the opportunity to create this room. Star Wars themed rooms have been very popular, especially with the new series of movies that Disney has produced. Star Wars art is perfect for any themed room, media room, home theater, office or your children's bedroom. Items featured throughout the room to complete the look: Exploding Death Star Chandelier, bunk bed, Star Wars comforter set, throw pillows, drapes, room darkening shades, table lamps, Star Wars toys and hand painted kids furniture.

An 1800’s carriage house sets the stage for this classic kitchen remodel. The homeowners wanted to be true to the architecture of their home while incorporating top quality, cutting edge appliances and modern day conveniences. They are discerning cooks who entertain often. The original kitchen, done in the 1990’s, had built-out walls covering the original stone of the house. Once exposed and repointed, the stone served as an amazing backsplash in the space, and we were able to gain almost 12” in the width of the room! The fabulous matte black BlueStar range is topped off with a unique antique fireback and is complimented by hand-pegged, hand-planed custom cabinetry that are scribed to the stone walls with precision. The distressed soapstone counters bring warmth to the space that makes you want to cozy up and stay a while. Since the kitchen does not allow for an island, the unused dining room was turned into a combined bar area and butler’s pantry. This small room packs a lot in with antique heart pine countertops, beadboard backsplash, and cabinetry backs, which provide a warm, casual feel. An additional refrigerator and dishwasher, as well as an icemaker, all hidden behind cabinetry panels, provide everything they need, and more, for entertaining family and friends. We were thrilled to take on this whole home remodel for a growing family in Santa Monica. The home is a multi-level condominium. They were looking for a contemporary update. The living room offers a custom built mantel with entertainment center. The kitchen and bathrooms all have custom made cabinetry. Unique in this kitchen is the down draft. The border floor tile in the kid’s bathroom ties all of the green mosaic marble together. However, our favorite feature may be the fire pit which allows the homeowners to enjoy their patio all year long.

As written in Northern Home & Cottage by Elizabeth Edwards Sara and Paul Matthews call their head-turning home, located in a sweet neighborhood just up the hill from downtown Petoskey, “a very human story.” Indeed it is. Sara and her husband, Paul, have a special-needs son as well as an energetic middle-school daughter. This home has an answer for everyone. Located down the street from the school, it is ideally situated for their daughter and a self-contained apartment off the great room accommodates all their son’s needs while giving his caretakers privacy—and the family theirs. The Matthews began the building process by taking their thoughts and needs to Stephanie Baldwin and her team at Edgewater Design Group. Beyond the above considerations, they wanted their new home to be low maintenance and to stand out architecturally, “But not so much that anyone would complain that it didn’t work in our neighborhood,” says Sara. “We were thrilled that Edgewater listened to us and were able to give us a unique-looking house that is meeting all our needs.” Lombardy LLC built this handsome home with Paul working alongside the construction crew throughout the project. The low maintenance exterior is a cutting-edge blend of stacked stone, black corrugated steel, black framed windows and Douglas fir soffits—elements that add up to an organic contemporary look. The use of black steel, including interior beams and the staircase system, lend an industrial vibe that is courtesy of the Matthews’ friend Dan Mello of Trimet Industries in Traverse City. The couple first met Dan, a metal fabricator, a number of years ago, right around the time they found out that their then two-year-old son would never be able to walk. After the couple explained to Dan that they couldn’t find a solution for a child who wasn’t big enough for a wheelchair, he designed a comfortable, rolling chair that was just perfect. They still use it. The couple’s gratitude for the chair resulted in a trusting relationship with Dan, so it was natural for them to welcome his talents into their home-building process. A maple floor finished to bring out all of its color-tones envelops the room in warmth. Alder doors and trim and a Doug fir ceiling reflect that warmth. Clearstory windows and floor-to-ceiling window banks fill the space with light—and with views of the spacious grounds that will become a canvas for Paul, a retired landscaper. The couple’s vibrant art pieces play off against modernist furniture and lighting that is due to an inspired collaboration between Sara and interior designer Kelly Paulsen. “She was absolutely instrumental to the project,” Sara says. “I went through two designers before I finally found Kelly.” The open clean-lined kitchen, butler’s pantry outfitted with a beverage center and Miele coffee machine (that allows guests to wait on themselves when Sara is cooking), and an outdoor room that centers around a wood-burning fireplace, all make for easy, fabulous entertaining. A den just off the great room houses the big-screen television and Sara’s loom— making for relaxing evenings of weaving, game watching and togetherness. Tourgoers will leave understanding that this house is everything great design should be. Form following function—and solving very human issues with soul-soothing style.

We were thrilled at the opportunity to furnish this beautiful home top to bottom for a young, vibrant couple who have lived around the world and were ready to make a home in Portland. Incredible custom area rugs and curated furnishings fill spaces that are composed and creative yet comfortable and inviting. Luxurious wallpapers highlight spaces throughout the home and even the outdoor patios are furnished to impress. This bathroom was constructed from start to finish in an area of the the client’s basement that was not prepped for a 3-piece bathroom, so a lot of concrete floor cutting was involved. The client merely said, “I like grays and blacks,” and that was it! He trusted our judgement and asked for us to surprise him. After a meeting with our interior designer at Beaver Tile, a really unique and beautiful tile arrangement came together utilizing ceramic and porcelain tiles. With the beautiful tile “mural” on the main shower wall, the dual Delta shower heads, a corner seat, and clear glass slider doors with brushed nickel framing, our client was thrilled with the final shower design. Continuing to weave blacks and grays through the rest of the bathroom, 12”x24” ceramic and porcelain tiles were laid into the floor in a brick pattern, and a counter top of “steel gray” granite was installed on top of the white shaker vanity. The Delta brushed nickel fixtures added the final touch of coordinated color to the bathroom. And next year? The client would like us to do his Master Bathroom and Kitchen! Slowly transforming this former bed and breakfast back into a private residence, the owners of this Montford manor were temporarily using this en suite as their primary bathroom. Hoping to make the space a bit more comfortable, they once again brought in The Hands of Sean Perry Co. The team got to work designing a new floorplan, with room for both a luxurious tub and a separate, spacious shower. Under the uniquely patterned, matte-glazed porcelain tile, the crew installed an electric floor warming system for maximum comfort on chilly winter mornings. They then integrated a new, bright white Victoria + Albert volcanic limestone bath, cast and finished by hand in South Africa. These repeat clients were thrilled to see their colorful vision for the en suite come to life, with all the stylish selections for this lovely bath made by the owner, a former interior designer, herself. With this personalized project now complete, the residents can continue converting this former guest cottage into a home of their very own.

RCID was thrilled to take on the role of project manager for this Elbow Valley Redecorating Project—a collaboration that celebrated creativity, trust, and personalization. This project was a joy from start to finish, as our clients allowed us the creative freedom to reimagine their spaces with fresh color, texture, and form. Each room was thoughtfully designed to feel cohesive yet uniquely personal—especially the kids’ rooms, where playful customization brought out each personality in the most delightful way. The result is a home that feels refreshed, balanced, and brimming with character. Projects like this remind us why we love what we do—collaborating with wonderful clients to turn their homes into spaces that truly reflect who they are.

2011 CAPITAL COTY AWARD GRAND AWARD WINNER Having just purchased this new home, the owners did not like the disconnection between kitchen and breakfast area. The garden window over the sink was in disrepair, the cabinetry was dark and the room’s flow had no rhyme or reason. The kitchen, however, had a lot of potential. A new design was put together which involved reframing the garden window to create panoramic viewing. Two skylights were added which really brightened up the space. All of the previous bulkheads were removed to allow stacked cabinetry and upper display cupboards. A new larger cooking island with angular wings and seating space around it is now the focal point of this kitchen. An additional countertop built on decorative columns offers space for the couple’s children to do their homework or have a snack. Entire kitchen and breakfast area now has a larger porcelain tile floor laid in a pattern to make the place even larger. Honey-colored maple cabinetry with a slightly rubbed chocolate glaze finish gives a classic but sophisticated look to this kitchen. The marriage of faux painting and brick fascia introduced a unique look into the space. The homeowners are so thrilled with the outcome, they are considering remodeling the rest of the home.

These homeowners were anxiously ready to remodel their dated 80’s kitchen and reached out to Renovisions to handle the transformation. In this new undertaking we met to discuss plans to brighten the dark room with custom painted white inset cabinets, adding more functional storage, better task lighting and GE Monogram appliances, new hardwood flooring throughout and creating a better flow into the adjacent family room. In order to open up the space, Renovisions suggested creating an angle at the peninsula. Continuing with this approach we replaced the rear door with a new one-light door that swings out instead of in to accommodate new bar stools and a better flow of traffic in and out to the deck outside. Silestone’s quartz countertops in ‘Merope’ were the perfect choice adding a nice contrast yet truly durable and low maintenance. Creating a beautifully unique subway tile niche in linen color at cooktop area and backsplash added an elegant touch to the overall look and homeowners were thrilled with this refreshing look after the Renovision. Now their newly renovated kitchen is a showcase and nicely outfitted for family and friends.
