The Mazama house is located in the Methow Valley of Washington State, a secluded mountain valley on the eastern edge of the North Cascades, about 200 miles northeast of Seattle.
The house has been carefully placed in a copse of trees at the easterly end of a large meadow. Two major building volumes indicate the house organization. A grounded 2-story bedroom wing anchors a raised living pavilion that is lifted off the ground by a series of exposed steel columns. Seen from the access road, the large meadow in front of the house continues right under the main living space, making the living pavilion into a kind of bridge structure spanning over the meadow grass, with the house touching the ground lightly on six steel columns. The raised floor level provides enhanced views as well as keeping the main living level well above the 3-4 feet of winter snow accumulation that is typical for the upper Methow Valley.
To further emphasize the idea of lightness, the exposed wood structure of the living pavilion roof changes pitch along its length, so the roof warps upward at each end. The interior exposed wood beams appear like an unfolding fan as the roof pitch changes. The main interior bearing columns are steel with a tapered “V”-shape, recalling the lightness of a dancer.
The house reflects the continuing FINNE investigation into the idea of crafted modernism, with cast bronze inserts at the front door, variegated laser-cut steel railing panels, a curvilinear cast-glass kitchen counter, waterjet-cut aluminum light fixtures, and many custom furniture pieces. The house interior has been designed to be completely integral with the exterior. The living pavilion contains more than twelve pieces of custom furniture and lighting, creating a totality of the designed environment that recalls the idea of Gesamtkunstverk, as seen in the work of Josef Hoffman and the Viennese Secessionist movement in the early 20th century.
The house has been designed from the start as a sustainable structure, with 40% higher insulation values than required by code, radiant concrete slab heating, efficient natural ventilation, large amounts of natural lighting, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, and locally sourced materials. Windows have high-performance LowE insulated glazing and are equipped with concealed shades. A radiant hydronic heat system with exposed concrete floors allows lower operating temperatures and higher occupant comfort levels. The concrete slabs conserve heat and provide great warmth and comfort for the feet.
Deep roof overhangs, built-in shades and high operating clerestory windows are used to reduce heat gain in summer months. During the winter, the lower sun angle is able to penetrate into living spaces and passively warm the exposed concrete floor. Low VOC paints and stains have been used throughout the house. The high level of craft evident in the house reflects another key principle of sustainable design: build it well and make it last for many years!

A growing family, a rambling Georgian estate. The question: how to imbue tradition with a fresh spirit? The charge was to maintain the idea of old school charm without the interior feeling just… old. An illustration could be found in picture molding (which we added, then painted to disappear into the walls) or a modern plaster sculpture teetering upon an old barrister bookcase. Charm, with a wink.

Playfully dubbed the "Cedar Wonderland," this Carroll Gardens duplex received a renovation overhaul with a nod to Japanese design on both upper and lower outdoor spaces. Minimalist bamboo fills an insulated cedar planter amidst cedar decking and fence on the upper level. Woodland understory plants mingle with upward reaching vines and sculptural trees and shrubs on the lower level. We can't wait to see the walls covered in green a few seasons from now.

The original house, built in the early 18th century, was moved to this location two hundred years later. This whole house project includes an outdoor stage, a library, two barns, an exercise complex and extensive landscaping with tennis court and pools.

A large window provides a view to the sea-wall at the bottom of the garden and Buzzard's Bay beyond.
The new stair allows views from the central front hall into the Living Room, which spans the waterside.

This stunning glass enclosed modern custom wine cellar was designed and installed by Vintage Cellars earlier this year. The Contemporary Custom Wine Room was fitted into an existing fireplace space, turning the visually unappealing sore thumb of the room into a magnificent show stopping centerpiece.
This modern luxury condo on the 31st floor in a downtown San Diego high-rise acted as a very interesting project for the custom wine cellar design team at Vintage Cellars. The modern wine room space has dual paned, insulated glass but because of the nature of glass itself, the cooling unit was recommended to be oversized.
The custom wine room space itself didn't have great options for venting the cooling unit due to the location on the 31st floor. The best option to vent was determined to treat the wine room as a wine cabinet, per se. The Cooling Unit, a CellarPro 1800 XTS, was placed in the ceiling, venting down cool air and circulating vented air back upward. The result works perfectly for a uniquely modern and contemporary space such as this.
This fully enclosed, glass front custom wine cellar boasts a 300 bottle capacity with a sleek, modern, label forward feel that ULTRA Wine Peg racking is known for. The center section is a double stacked full reveal display row, showcasing some of the homeowner's finer wines.
Though no particular space was made within the wine racking area, the design of this modern custom wine cellar was pushed back a couple of feet so that wine case storage could be an option between the glass front and the custom racking.
Additionally, the clean feel goes even further upon looking for the entrance into this wine cellar. The flat panel on the furthest left side opens slowly and almost magically when pushed in slightly. A great, modern touch!
A gorgeous, modern condo such as this is just begging to have a custom wine cellar. This space, with big help from this contemporary wine room, screams luxury upon entering. The clean, modern and sleek style within the home has found its match with an equally stunning custom wine room.

Swimming Pool and Backyard Lighting Company on Long Island, NY - Gappsi
Let us help you modify your in ground pool and backyard with the right kind of lighting to fit your needs. Gappsi installed the lighting features surrounding all-natural stone patio and walls in this photo. The pool has Led Lights which are energy efficient giving off a nice clear yet soft glow and is available in an alternating multicolor effect or a single color (which you see in the photo). Wall washer lights reflect off the textured stone giving the illusion of running water down the Travertine veneer walls. Spot lights are installed under the trees behind the sheer descending water feature beside the pool. These spot lights are installed in the ground directed up at the trees bringing out their defined shape illuminating them at night. Floodlighting features are installed on the outside walls of the house to enhance the main sitting area where the tables and food islands are set up. The barbeque pavilion is also lit up by installing high hats in the ceiling and soffits. The high hats are a recessed lighting feature giving the chef and your guest the perfect ambiance for entertaining. Outdoor lighting is used for multiple reasons both decorative and functional. Different types of outdoor lighting and fixtures are used for specific uses for example brightening a pathway with lights gleaming down, illuminating a tree with light fixtures cascading upward, and accenting column pillars or water features. Inspiration for a transitional enclosed light wood floor and beige floor living room remodel in Jacksonville with blue walls

The home opens with a fifteen-foot entrance into a Great Room, where the north-façade is a glass curtain wall supported by hydraulic systems which opens like an aircraft hangar door, extending the living experience to outdoors. The horizontality of the space draws the eye to the greenery of Silicon Valley and floods the room with direct daylight. This feature gives the otherwise ultra-modern home the ambiance of existing in and among nature.
To bolster the comfort and serenity of the Great Room, an open floor plan combines kitchen, living, and dining areas. To the left is a nineteen-foot cantilevered kitchen island and to the right, a three-sided glass fireplace cradling the family room. In the center, a circular glass-floored dining area, impressively cantilevers over a sixty-foot long swimming pool with Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” mosaic tiled floor, serving as the Great Room’s centerpiece.
Sustainable feature includes, gray / rainwater harvesting system, saving approximately 34,000 gallons of water annually; a solar system covering 90% of home energy usage and aluminum cladded subfloor heating system achieving the desired temperature seven times faster than traditional radiant system and over 25% saving over conventional forced air system.

The three-level Mediterranean revival home started as a 1930s summer cottage that expanded downward and upward over time. We used a clean, crisp white wall plaster with bronze hardware throughout the interiors to give the house continuity. A neutral color palette and minimalist furnishings create a sense of calm restraint. Subtle and nuanced textures and variations in tints add visual interest. The stair risers from the living room to the primary suite are hand-painted terra cotta tile in gray and off-white. We used the same tile resource in the kitchen for the island's toe kick.

The modern kitchen is a stunning space that combines sleek design elements with natural materials, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. The room features mostly white cabinets with wood accents, providing ample storage space and creating a clean and contemporary backdrop for the other design elements in the space.
Wood accents, including bi-fold doors and a wood kick area at the kitchen island, add a touch of warmth and natural texture to the space. The wood complements the neutral color palette of the kitchen and creates a sense of balance and harmony in the room.
Black pendant lights hang above the kitchen island, adding a touch of industrial chic to the space. The lights provide ample task lighting and serve as a visual anchor in the room, drawing the eye upward and adding depth and dimension to the space.
Black hardware on the cabinets and drawers adds a touch of contrast to the otherwise neutral space, creating a sense of depth and texture. The hardware complements the black pendant lights and black faucets, creating a cohesive and visually striking design.
Clerestory windows above the cabinets flood the space with natural light, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere while adding a sense of openness and airiness to the room.
Overall, the modern kitchen with white cabinets, wood accents, black pendant lights, black hardware, and clerestory windows is a beautiful and functional space that seamlessly blends form and function, creating a welcoming and stylish atmosphere for cooking and entertaining.

Wall to wall cabinets in converted warehouse space, this nook creates a dynamic home office. The cabinet exteriors use a high gloss melamine called Antracita. The recessed open shelving is a textured woodgrain laminate, this one is called Castellina, and the desk surface uses a formica Stainless Steel laminate. The upper doors lift upwards on stays, and we used stainless steel pulls and handles on drawers and doors. We used LED puck lights over the work surface for task lighting.
