This was a steep transition of terrain with out much room. We were able to resolve this with an artistic and functional pathway leading to two raised beds. This area receives all day sun and is a perfect location for a vegetable garden and low maintenance plants.

The challenge for this garden in Amsterdam Noord was to create ample space for a vegetable garden while preserving the view and providing enough structure that the garden also looks good in the winter. Also, the goats and chickens in the back of the garden needed to be easily accessible, even when the grass was wet. Studio TOOP achieved this by creating a path that isn't a path and at a same time emphasizing the width of the garden with polder-esque lines.

These beautiful raised beds in a Brentwood garden yield abundant baskets of produce every week of the year. The edges of the beds that line this center path are planted with Herbs for easy picking, fondly named "Herb Alley" by the resident children.

Edible landscaping encompasses much more then adding some veggie beds to one’s property. Creative layouts and material usage can incorporate year-round vegetable harvests in an aesthetically pleasing way. Perennial fruit trees, along with bushes and herbs, create a lush space full of beautiful, colors, textures, smells and tastes. Searching out and experimenting with different and rare varieties of edible plants keeps home gardens interesting. Edible landscaping gives access to food at its freshest, when it is most nutritious, and offers many more options than supermarket produce sections—also cutting down on transportation and packaging impacts. From edible estates to food forests, or simple integration of garden-based food production, Sweet Smiling Landscapes has the knowledge and experience to help home owners harvest their own bounty.

Vegetable and flower garden with Olla irrigation system. Water seeps through the walls of unglazed 'Olla', these vessels can be used to irrigate plants. The Olla is buried in the ground next to the roots of the plant to be irrigated. The Olla is filled with water, which gradually seeps into the soil to water the roots of the plant. It is an efficient method, since no water is lost to evaporation or run-off.
