In the core of downtown Toronto, the client had recently purchased a condo into the luxury 55 Stewart Building/Thompson Hotel. The unit was a bit warn-in and was in need of some updating from the previous owner. We started with a fresh paint job throughout the unit to add a bit more of personal touch to the unit. Kitchen cabinetry was updated as well to keep with the tons of the unit along with new light features above the island. The monochromatic palate of the unit keeps it very neutral but brings in warmth with some textured materials and greenery. Soft lighting fits the space exceptionally well to maintain the feel in the evening. The mix of marble, black matte metal and dark wood furniture blends seamlessly together. And with keeping storage furniture open allows for more light to come through and make the space feel much bigger than it really is.

The owners had recently purchased this house with the desire to totally renovate the interior and exterior. Great location and views were very attractive. Our task was to make it fully functional, beautiful and fun. Parking and impervious space were two of our biggest challenges. Driveway paving was re-designed using both permeable paving stones and ribbon layouts to allow for on-site drainage and a warm look. The main outdoor living room was off the back of the house with a Bluestone terrace using Brownstone inlay to create separate spaces. The terrace walls were finished with the same stone used on the house with a clean Stainless Steel railing system, for great visibility. A large kitchen was built for entertaining with plenty of counter space. The terrace overlooks a wonderful pond with just the right fountain. The plantings were designed to bring color, texture, fragrance and screening in just the right combinations. LED landscape lighting and magnificent Longshadow planters completed the gardens with charm and elegance.

To achieve these goals, we got rid of the kitchen island and open shelving unit to reconfigured the kitchen into a U-shaped layout with a huge peninsula. The large new fridge was relocated to the adjacent wall, the sink was moved out of the corner and the range was moved to the new peninsula. This gave the kitchen a great work triangle that is ideal for entertaining. Open shelves were added for display, and a bold green paint was used on the accent wall where a commissioned painting will hang. Ample Cambria Quartz countertops in the Skara Brae pattern bring an organic feel to the space while the long linear porcelain tile backsplash adds to the industrial, modern vibe of the open loft. This loft now matches the artistic vibes of the building, the personality of the homeowner, and imparts the quality this homeowner deserves so she can enjoy it for many years to come.

Updating a recently built town home in culver city for a wonderful family was a very enjoyable project for us. a classic shaker kitchen with double row of upper cabinets due to the extra high ceiling. butcher block island with a sink as a work area. The centerpiece of it all is the amazing handmade Moroccan zellige tiles that were used as the backsplash. going all the way to the ceiling around the window area and finished off in the corners with a black matt Schluter corner system.

The house has been laid out to take maximum advantage of both passive and active solar energy, natural ventilation, low impact and recyclable materials, high efficiency lighting and controls, in a structure that is very simple and economical to build. The envelope of the house is designed to require a minimum amount of energy in order to live and use the home based on the lifestyle of the occupants. The home will have an innovative HVAC system that has been recently developed by engineers from the University of Illinois which uses considerably less energy than a conventional heating and cooling system and provides extremely high indoor air quality utilizing a CERV (conditioned energy recovery ventilation system) combined with a cost effective installation. Our client’s wish list included specific areas for a grill, a hot tub, and some needed shade in a very sunny back yard. The original stamped concrete patio was constructed 2-3 feet above grade making it a clear safety hazard. Originally the home had a single door to the back yard. The recently added family room added a door wall. The two entrances now provided back yard access but needed to be tied-in cohesively with a new design. Our comprehensive design included the deck, paver patio, and specified the shade-providing pergola. Project management required removals, deck construction, gas line installation, burial of power lines, pergola and hot tub installation. We delivered an entertainment space designed for family fun, as well as an adult hang out, perfect for an afternoon get-together or an evening retreat.
