A plain rectangular-shaped back yard in Fairfax, CA was transformed by including curvaceous pathway of decomposed granite (DG) patios and garden beds. The plant palette includes a variety of colorful drought-tolerant plants that offer both flower and leaf colors and textures throughout every season. This front yard design, a 2018 TNLA Award Winner, elevates outdoor living with its harmonious blend of natural textures and vibrant color. The landscape architecture centers around a symmetrical layout, drawing the eye to the striking turquoise planters anchoring the home's entrance. A mix of heights and textures, from the sculptural agave to the delicate flowering vines, creates visual interest. The stone and brickwork complement the earthy tones of the foliage, offering a welcoming, yet sophisticated curb appeal. This space masterfully balances architectural elements with the organic beauty of thoughtfully curated plantings.

This large Finn Hill - Kirkland property was completely renovated. The front yard was shaped with a rock garden border that provided for a level lawn with good drainage. Kirkland, WA.

Tibouchina heteromalla - Silver leafed Princess Flower is a stunning late summer blooming shrub with vibrant purple-blue flowers. And really pops against the warm golden tones of California, Spanish-style bungalow. Photo taken 2 years after installation. The fresh new landscape and garden design replaced the tired lawn with a creeping thyme ground cover and other low-water plantings. The new flagstone pathway, and a small patio echo the terra-cotta tones of the house and are softened by Elfin Thyme planted between the pavers. A gravel path and concrete patios adjacent to the structures provide defensible space where fire fighters could easily remove embers. They are also delightful places for exploring and viewing the garden.
