From its private, 11 acre setting to its expansive mtn & ocean views, this remarkable Montecito - From its private, 11 acre setting to its expansive mtn & ocean views, this remarkable Montecito estate offers an effortless & enviable modus vivendi. Through a graceful revival, this newly reimagined Tuscan villa recently entered the premier echelon of design. An extraordinary open-air pavilion overlooks the sparkling pool & spa. The guest house offers a private Santa Ysidro Ranch-style experience

The owners desired a modest home that would enable them to experience the dual natures of the outdoors: intimate forest and sweeping views. The use of economical, pre-fabricated materials was seen as an opportunity to develop an expressive architecture.
The house is organized on a four-foot module, establishing a delicate rigor for the building and maximizing the use of pre-manufactured materials. A series of open web trusses are combined with dimensional wood framing to form broad overhangs. Plywood sheets spanning between the trusses are left exposed at the eaves. An insulated aluminum window system is attached to exposed laminated wood columns, creating an expansive yet economical wall of glass in the living spaces with mountain views. On the opposite side, support spaces and a children’s desk are located along the hallway.
A bridge clad in green fiber cement panels marks the entry. Visible through the front door is an angled yellow wall that opens to a protected outdoor space between the garage and living spaces, offering the first views of the mountain peaks. Living and sleeping spaces are arranged in a line, with a circulation corridor to the east.
The exterior is clad in pre-finished fiber cement panels that match the horizontal spacing of the window mullions, accentuating the linear nature of the structure. Two boxes clad in corrugated metal punctuate the east elevation. At the north end of the house, a deck extends into the landscape, providing a quiet place to enjoy the view.

Nestled in the dunes of northern Peregian Beach, with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, Kestrel is an extensive and carefully curated reimagining of a dated 1990s Mediterranean-style home.
The original floor plan was highly compartmentalized, prioritizing ocean views at the expense of functional layout and connection to the site. With young children in tow, the new owners envisioned a more open design - one that establishes a clear visual link between the sea views at the rear and a playful front yard. This re-prioritisation of the front yard not only strengthens the home’s relationship to the landscape but also allows for a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living, a quality the original home lacked.
From the street, the house presents as a sleek, single-storey form - its introverted façade concealing the expansive ocean views revealed only upon entering through the front gate. Upon entry the home openly reveals its communal spaces whilst concealing secondary programming behind a series of hidden doors. The lower level hosts a collection of bedrooms and living spaces that flow effortlessly to the pool area and native vegetation beyond.
Through a series of deliberate architectural interventions and a renewed connection to its surrounding landscape, Kestrel amplifies the experience of coastal living in this sublime location.

Situated along Eagle River, looking across to the mouth of the Ipswich Harbor, this was clearly a little cape house that was married to the sea. The owners were inquiring about adding a simple shed dormer to provide additional exposure to the stunning water view, but they were also interested in what Mathew would design if this beach cottage were his.
Inspired by the waves that came ashore mere feet from the little house, Mathew took up a fat marker and sketched a sweeping, S-shape dormer on the waterside of the building. He then described how the dormer would be designed in the shape of an ocean wave. “This way,” he explained, “you will not only be able to see the ocean from your new master bedroom, you’ll also be able to experience that view from a space that actually reflects the spirit of the waves.”
Mathew and his team designed the master suite and study using a subtle combination of contemporary and traditional, beach-house elements. The result was a completely unique and one-of-a-kind space inside and out. Transparencies are built into the design via features like gently curved glass that reflects the water and the arched interior window separating the bedroom and bath. On the exterior, the curved dormer on the street side echoes these rounded shapes and lines to create continuity throughout. The sense of movement is accentuated by the continuous, V-groove boarded ceiling that runs from one ocean-shaped dormer through to the opposite side of the house.
The bedroom features a cozy sitting area with built in storage and a porthole window to look out onto the rowboats in the harbor. A bathroom and closet were combined into a single room in a modern design that doesn't sacrifice any style or space and provides highly efficient functionality. A striking barn door made of glass with industrial hardware divides the two zones of the master suite. The custom, built-in maple cabinetry of the closets provides a textural counterpoint to the unique glass shower that incorporates sea stones and an ocean wave motif accent tile.
With this spectacular design vision, the owners are now able to enjoy their stunning view from a bright and spacious interior that brings the natural elements of the beach into the home.

On the corner of Franklin and Mulholland, within Mulholland Scenic View Corridor, we created a rustic, modern barn home for some of our favorite repeat clients. This home was envisioned as a second family home on the property, with a recording studio and unbeatable views of the canyon. We designed a 2-story wall of glass to orient views as the home opens up to take advantage of the privacy created by mature trees and proper site placement. Large sliding glass doors allow for an indoor outdoor experience and flow to the rear patio and yard. The interior finishes include wood-clad walls, natural stone, and intricate herringbone floors, as well as wood beams, and glass railings. It is the perfect combination of rustic and modern. The living room and dining room feature a double height space with access to the secondary bedroom from a catwalk walkway, as well as an in-home office space. High ceilings and extensive amounts of glass allow for natural light to flood the home.

The lake views from this townhome’s master bathroom are panoramic and breathtaking. Unfortunately, the original layout of the bathroom itself left much to be desired. An old whirlpool tub took up too much floor space, the shower stall was too small and the room itself was cramped and dysfunctional.
The homeowners’ goals called for improving the room’s traffic flow, creating a larger and more functional shower stall with dual use, taking full advantage of the lake view and bringing a Romanesque theme to the space.
The first step in the renovation was to replace the old whirlpool with a small corner tub that took up half the space. The rest of that side of the room is devoted to the beautiful Roman-style shower stall with double rain shower, double body sprays and built in niches, arch headers and a heavy glass enclosure. The stalls creative use of mosaic tiles and medallion has made this shower stall the jewel of this project.
The vanity uses dark cherry cabinetry which complements the cream rustic tumbled marble and oil rubbed bronze fixtures. A beautiful, curved slab of exotic marble was cut for the countertop and two hand-crafted vessel sinks made from tumbled stone are on top of it.
The homeowners have never been happier to use their master bathroom .They get to have their own Roman-style bath experience by taking a few steps from their bedroom. Looking out of this gorgeous bathroom overlooking the lake just cannot be expressed with words.

Combine ancient temples with overwater villas for the trip of a lifetime
There's a reason savvy travellers are increasingly looking beyond single-destination holidays. The Sri Lanka Maldives multi-centre trip has emerged as one of the most sought-after combinations in tropical travel—and it's easy to understand why. These two Indian Ocean neighbours couldn't be more different, yet together they create a holiday experience that satisfies every type of wanderlust.
Why Combine Sri Lanka and the Maldives?
Sri Lanka offers what the Maldives doesn't: lush highlands carpeted in tea plantations, ancient cities steeped in 2,500 years of history, wildlife safaris where leopards roam free, and a culinary scene that'll have you dreaming of hoppers and kottu for years to come. The Maldives, meanwhile, delivers what Sri Lanka can't: those iconic overwater bungalows, some of the planet's most pristine coral reefs, and the kind of barefoot luxury where your biggest decision is whether to have your massage on the beach or in your private villa.
A Sri Lanka and Maldives twin centre holiday lets you experience the thrill of exploration followed by pure, unadulterated relaxation. It's the best of both worlds—literally.
The Perfect Itinerary Balance
Most travellers find that spending 7-10 days in Sri Lanka followed by 4-7 days in the Maldives creates the ideal rhythm. Sri Lanka demands more time because there's simply so much ground to cover. You might start in Colombo, travel through the Cultural Triangle to explore Sigiriya's ancient rock fortress and Dambulla's cave temples, wind through the tea country around Ella, and perhaps end with a safari in Yala National Park before catching your flight to Malé.
Then comes the reward: touching down in the Maldives, boarding a speedboat or seaplane, and watching the stress of everyday life disappear as those famous turquoise lagoons come into view. After days of early morning temple visits and winding mountain roads, there's nothing quite like sinking into a lounger with nothing on the agenda but deciding which shade of blue you're looking at.
Logistics Made Simple
One of the best aspects of this combination is how geographically convenient it is. Colombo and Malé are just over an hour apart by air, with multiple daily flights connecting the two capitals. This proximity means minimal travel fatigue and maximum time enjoying your destinations.Find More here https://holiday.com.mv/sri-lanka-and-maldives-twin-centre-holidays/
For those considering expanding their Indian Ocean adventure even further, Maldives multi-centre holidays open up possibilities beyond Sri Lanka. Dubai, Singapore, and various Indian cities all serve as excellent add-on destinations, turning an already incredible trip into a true odyssey.
Planning Considerations for 2026
Timing matters with this combination. The Maldives enjoys fairly consistent weather year-round, but Sri Lanka has two distinct monsoon seasons affecting different coasts at different times. Generally speaking, December through April works beautifully for both destinations, making it the peak season for this twin-centre route.
Budget-wise, expect Sri Lanka to be significantly more affordable than the Maldives. Many travellers use this to their advantage, opting for boutique hotels and authentic local experiences in Sri Lanka, then splurging on a premium resort for their Maldives finale. It's a strategy that delivers exceptional value without sacrificing that once-in-a-lifetime overwater villa experience.
The Verdict
A Sri Lanka Maldives multi-centre holiday isn't just about ticking two countries off a list. It's about crafting a journey with genuine contrast and emotional arc—adventure followed by serenity, cultural immersion followed by indulgent escape. For couples, honeymooners, families, and solo travellers alike, this combination consistently ranks among the most satisfying itineraries the Indian Ocean has to offer.
If you've been dreaming of ancient ruins at sunrise and sunset cocktails on a private deck over crystalline waters, this might just be your year to make it happen.
Ready to start planning your twin-centre adventure? Work with specialists who know both destinations intimately to create an itinerary that matches your travel style and budget.Find More here https://holiday.com.mv/maldives-multi-centre-holidays/
