We removed all the dead grass and weeds, created swales and berms, a big rain garden, paths and seating areas all with permeable paving. Also added fruit trees and veggie beds, and transformed the space completely. Now, the garden is full of birds, butterflies and pollinators! And the clients got a sizable rebate through the LADWP landscape rebate program!

Carolina Ponyfoot (Dichondra carolinensis) and Oakwoods ponyfoot (Dichondra recurvata) are low-growing, creeping perennial weeds that can quickly spread under the right conditions. The plants can produce new roots at each leaf node; meaning as they creep along the soil surface they can continue rooting and creating new plant clusters. The smooth green leaves resemble a kidney in shape, although it’s also called “pony’s foot” or "ponyfoot" based on the shape. In spring, they produce a tiny, 5 petaled flower.
