With adjacent neighbors within a fairly dense section of Paradise Valley, Arizona, C.P. Drewett sought to provide a tranquil retreat for a new-to-the-Valley surgeon and his family who were seeking the modernism they loved though had never lived in. With a goal of consuming all possible site lines and views while maintaining autonomy, a portion of the house — including the entry, office, and master bedroom wing — is subterranean. This subterranean nature of the home provides interior grandeur for guests but offers a welcoming and humble approach, fully satisfying the clients requests.
While the lot has an east-west orientation, the home was designed to capture mainly north and south light which is more desirable and soothing. The architecture’s interior loftiness is created with overlapping, undulating planes of plaster, glass, and steel. The woven nature of horizontal planes throughout the living spaces provides an uplifting sense, inviting a symphony of light to enter the space. The more voluminous public spaces are comprised of stone-clad massing elements which convert into a desert pavilion embracing the outdoor spaces. Every room opens to exterior spaces providing a dramatic embrace of home to natural environment.

The material palette began with a rich, tonal, large-format Quartzite stone cladding. The stone’s tones gaveforth the rest of the material palette including a champagne-colored metal fascia, a tonal stucco system, and ceilings clad with hemlock, a tight-grained but softer wood that was tonally perfect with the rest of the materials. The interior case goods and wood-wrapped openings further contribute to the tonal harmony of architecture and materials.
Grand Award Winner for Best Indoor Outdoor Lifestyle for a Home This award-winning project was recognized at the 2020 Gold Nugget Awards with two Grand Awards, one for Best Indoor/Outdoor Lifestyle for a Home, and another for Best Interior Design of a One of a Kind or Custom Home.

Our client wanted their dream home to be an informal place where they could easily entertain and enjoy themselves. We were awarded the interior design and architectural specification package, which allowed us to recommend substantial alterations prior to construction, including raising the ceiling height, removing walls, reconfiguring rooms and entrances, and specifying appealing ceiling, wall and flooring treatments. In this dining room, we added a partial wall and a dark, wood stained transition arch. The partial wall increases the feel of privacy in the room. We cut wallpaper into squares and turned each square when hanging it, to create a subtle, textured visual effect. Each corner has nail head accents. We added a gothic-inspired valance to the window treatments and integrated the drapery cornices into crown molding. This creates crown molding along the room's perimeter with a flowing, seamless appearance.

#BenjaminMoore brick ranch with custom, architecturally correct shutters. Stained wood door is the focal point with 1/4 wood and 3/4 divided lite. Using aged copper lighting by Visual Comfort to flank the door draws the attention up on the porch and makes the front loader garage do away. We wrapped the columns to create a more substantial look. Not only does this porch include a massive white limestone outdoor fireplace, but is surrounded by a half-wall, steps, outdoor kitchen with walk-up bar, and column details in matching material. The substantial size and use of the stone masonry are dramatic, while the white and off-white finish offers a clean, unostentatious aesthetic.

2010 REGIONAL AWARD WINNER
Built in 2000, this center hall colonial in Fairfax Station, Virginia had a kitchen that was neither functional nor aesthetically pleasing.
First, the floor plan was poorly rationalized. The work triangle was inefficient, a large pantry took up too much floor space, and a series of railings between the kitchen and family room obstructed traffic flow.
Aesthetically, the space was dated. Dutch cabinetry, floral wallpaper and a faux Victorian chandelier all cried for an update. Additionally, the homeowners wanted to incorporate high-end appliances and other amenities like a wine cooler and steam cooker.
Overall, the owners were seeking to replace worn out-of-style kitchen with a substantially upgraded “open” facility that combines traditional and contemporary features configured to support multiple social and culinary needs.
Working with Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes, they decided to implement a series of strategic revisions that would support their new use goals.
First, they removed an obstructive bearing wall between the existing kitchen and mudroom, creating a recessed niche for a new 48” gas range with custom hood. An unused desk taken out provided a spot for the new 48” two-drawer refrigerator/freezer.
A custom-designed L-shaped granite-surfaced island with bar sink, icemaker and mini-drawer refrigerator takes center stage in the space and offers seating for six. Now the chef can entertain guests while preparing the meal.
From an aesthetic point of view, the interior features are nothing less than stunning. Softly painted walls, decorative ceramic tile backsplashes and granite surfaces combine with custom made cabinets to create an elegant space. Antiqued soft-opaque cabinet facings, wood panel refrigerator door inserts, glass-facing display cabinets and a custom mantle range hood are true works of craftsmanship. Fine detail is expressed with flutes and corbels. Beauty is truly in the details of this award-winning kitchen.

STACT wine racks are incredibly easy to specify and incorporate into wine cellars, wine rooms, kitchens, home bars, commercial bars, and restaurants. Our customers have found that when it comes to modern wine cellar solutions, our system offers a number of advantages versus other wine storage solutions available on the market, here are just a few:
✓ Quality - premium *furniture grade* solution is unique to the industry, with unrivalled refinement when it comes to materials, aesthetic and craftsmanship. Our panels feature a premium high-gloss painted finish (not a laminated surface). Each panel takes more than a week to complete, with meticulous attention to detail. Once numerous coats of lacquer have been applied, each panel is hand buffed to a mirror-like piano finish.
✓ Versatility - mount any way you wish, and designed to work equally well within both commercial and residential applications, our clients have found our modular system to be the most versatile, and easiest to specify, assemble, and install - whether for 9 bottles or 9,000 within a large scale wine cellar application (www.stact.co/cellars). Available on your choice of 10 finishes, mix and match STACT panels to create your own unique look (3,628,800 possible configurations).
✓ Convenience - designed for quick and easy *DIY installation*, our patented system comes ready-to-install to any drywall surface right out of the box, minimizing the costs associated with labor and installation when compared with many custom solutions you will find on the market. Avoiding the need for a dedicated wine cellar builder to produce and arrive on site for assembly and installation. In-stock items typically ship within 1 business day.
✓ Value - direct-to-client distribution model to effectively cut out retail markup. Builders and specifiers have found STACT to be a fraction of the price of what it would cost to develop and produce a comparable custom solution. Plus currently we are offering *free shipping worldwide*.
✓ Design pedigree - created by 2012 ICFF winning designer Eric Pfeiffer, our patented prefabricated ready-to-assemble modular design is unique to the industry.
✓ Space-saving - highest bottle capacity on the market (10.7 bottles / sq ft). Each panel supports 9-12 bottles depending on how they are configured.
✓ Security - superior bottle stability, versus other wall-mounted wine storage solutions on the market. The aircraft grade aluminum bottle support structure ensures a lower center of gravity there is a more substantial portion of the bottle resting below the contact points. Thus a minimalist design aesthetic is retained, while eliminating the need for unnecessary and unsightly materials/clutter such as rubber gaskets, straps, etc.

The True Ofuro Mini came about as the direct result of your requests. It too is inspired by the ancient traditions of Japanese bathing that led to the development of our incredibly popular True Ofuro. It too draws on the best ergonomic principles to sculpt a bath with internal seating and built-in headrest, made available in a very compact footprint to fit into even the smallest bathrooms. In fact, Aquatica’s clever designers have managed to create this ‘small and tall’ tub, deep enough for full body soaking in a footprint of just 43”.
Now we have made one more important innovation to the Ofuro Mini - the addition of a stunning graphite black option, using our award-winning and ground-breaking AquateX™ solid surface composite. Just think how that might look in your bathroom!
It is taller and deeper and features a slightly elevated rim for improved neck and head support, as well as a convenient ergonomic built-in seat, allowing the body to comfortably emerge to maximum water capacity. The height of the True Ofuro Mini Japanese style soaking bathtub is substantially taller than the original True Ofuro bathtub, and therefore we recommend people who are shorter than 170cm also purchase our stylish teak wood step.
Aquatica’s international industrial design team, used advanced CAD tools, modeling and repeated testing with real size prototype units so that we could reach the optimal balance between ergonomic comfort and visual appeal.
Our AquateX™ material is the star in this Japanese soaking tub as it retains heat much longer and also has a silky and velvety surface. This bathtub is currently one of our most space conscious bathtubs at a size of 43" x 43" (1090x1090mm), making the freestanding and petite construction of this Japanese style bathtub easy to be installed in any sized bathroom.

This final view of the award-winning Harrisburg, PA kitchen highlights the custom cabinetry and millwork details carried throughout the design. The furniture-style prep island features layered panels, substantial molding and concealed end storage, while the dishwasher at the end of the perimeter run is hidden behind a custom cabinet front designed to appear as two inset drawers. On the adjoining appliance wall, a decorative valance toe detail adds another furniture-inspired finishing touch to the custom cabinetry.

Our client asked for a kitchen that would be big enough for their extended family, and that encompassed a modern design approach, in line with their home’s contemporary architecture. They wanted modern materials, sharp, clean lines, and a look that played on bold forms. Practically, they requested substantial bench space, ample storage, and a kitchen that related to the interior flow and exterior pool and entertainment areas – all using a clean, crisp palette, with exposed concrete walls as the backdrop.

The front entry includes a few key remodeling features - first, a heavy and substantial front entry door. Second, an indiscrete powder room. Third, a front hall closet to hide the mess. Fourth, dramatic dark stained original stairs and gold painted radiator, letting all who enter, that this home is filled with style and grace!
