Drury DesignTHE SETUP
This client lives in a great high-rise condo in downtown Chicago. Alicia has already remodeled a few areas of her home, including her kitchen and home office. The bathroom is one of the last big places the client wanted to update. The existing bathroom had a large, outdated whirlpool tub in the corner. It was a darker space that had a lack of natural light. There are no windows (due to the bathroom’s location within the high-rise building). So, the idea was to brighten up the space and give the client an updated, elegant primary bathroom that is more her style and tailor-made for her routines.
Design Objectives:
- Make the space brighter.
- Create different daily routine stations to maximize functionality while keeping things clutter-free – a makeup station, a blow-dry station, and a sink-needs station.
- Achieve the client’s specific style and function needs while also keeping the look and design open to future possibilities: different users of the space/resale clients.
Design Challenges:
- Toilet cannot be moved. (In a high-rise, you can’t really move plumbing around too much when reimagining a space)
- Existing bathroom had a soffit that hid a lot of electrical wiring, so completely removing the soffit wasn’t an option.
- The blow-dry station needs to accommodate the client’s preference for standing up.
- Finding a place for the make-up station, which the client wants oriented for sitting.
- Create storage within the shower that can eliminate the clutter of personal care products that are actually needed every day. Do this, while keeping the client’s favorite things about the existing shower: the shower bench, a tub filler faucet (for rinsing shaving cream when shaving legs) and a low niche for placing her foot when shaving her legs.
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design Solutions:
- Extended a bit of wall near the toilet to give the commode its own area within the space, but without closing it off into a claustrophobic WC.
- Worked within the reality of the existing soffit situation, reshaping it to align with the new shower. Can lights were also added. Installed a beautiful ceiling light fixture that works within the new soffit shape, commanding attention and adding light, as if the sofit shape was chosen for it.
- Created a nice, furniture-looking 42”-high cabinet with pullout drawers to be the blow-dry station, complete with a mirror and a nice top. The pullout drawers are all powered, concealing a Dyson dryer and curling iron (and all the accoutrements) while keeping them plugged in, which is ideal for easy usage and put away. A stylish mirror on the wall above the cabinet, and proper lighting, make this the perfect blow-dry station. The top has a grommet that can accommodate a power cord should the client ever want to have a powered device on top of the cabinet.
- Put the sit-down makeup station where the tub used to be, putting the mirror back into a new recessed wall just a bit, allowing the area to have more room.
- Created a niche in the shower’s inner wall so that you can’t see it unless you are literally inside the shower. At the client’s request, it also has a hook so she can hang her loofa. Hiding the utility niche in this way allowed us to use the full main wall of the shower as a canvas for a beautiful accent stripe of raised decorative tile. The new shower has her old favorites, too: the tub filler, foot niche and bench.
Alicia’s client loves her new primary bathroom, especially the blow dry area. It is very accommodating for her, as a tall lady, while being very easy to use. The drawers store everything. Being powered, they make using already-plugged in appliances very easy to use and put away.
Her previous makeup station was a freestanding vanity with a single drawer, so beauty products were all over the surface top. With her new makeup station, everything is nicely tucked away and organized in drawers.
The new lighting is fantastic and the colors are light and soft. The clients loves the overall look and feel of her new bathroom and raves about how well the functionality-minded design makes her morning routine – and her life – easier and enjoyable!

Tradition Outdoor LivingThis outdoor living project allows our clients to truly enjoy their outdoor space in Rosenberg, TX. On about an acre of land, the covered patio with outdoor kitchen is the perfect spot for sipping morning coffee and enjoying a gentle breeze. The workshop adjacent to the garage was built to look original to the home, and in fact, even has AC! Both projects add much appeal and practicality to this home.
The covered patio, extending from the existing porch cover, was also built to look original to the home with matching cedar wrapped columns with brick bases. Outdoor ceiling fans were wired to this space as well as recessed lights and flood lights. A large kitchen space was built with matching brick, beautiful granite countertops, and a bar seating. With plenty storage and counter space and a large grill, this outdoor kitchen suits our clients' needs.
The original flooring surface was replaced by stamped concrete and continued throughout the remainder of the project.
Later, we returned to build our clients' a workshop space. This space is complete with AC, indoor and outdoor lighting, and a garage door with ramp in the rear for ease of access with large equipment. The entire structure matches the original home, including cedar wrapped columns, partial brick and siding exterior.

DTV INSTALLATIONS LLCThe room was being completely redesigned and the dry wall was opened up during construction, so DTV was able to run all wiring necessary for the TV, video components, audio system and speakers hidden between the cement and dry wall during that period.
We installed a Peerless SUA765PI wall mount for the Samsung UN55HU7100 high-definition television seen in the space between the cabinets. On the shelves below are the system’s Marantz NR-1605 home theater receiver and the client’s Blu-ray player, PS2 and WII.
Morris Black DesignsThis wide-open, amazing-looking and highly functional maple wood kitchen is quite an improvement over the homeowners’ previous setup. Their old kitchen was done in dark wood with soffits, and the space was dominated by a thick brick wall. The whole space was divided in half by a peninsula with wall cabinets. Over time, the couple grew to realize that while they liked some elements of the kitchen, overall the space was not addressing their needs — particularly in terms of being functional.
“The old kitchen — which was original to the house — was actually lovely,” explains the wife. “The cabinetry was very nice but it wasn’t working for us. Some cabinetry was too high for us to use. We needed more cabinet space. Overhead cabinets divided the kitchen in two. The arrangement of the cabinets and I’d say the kitchen itself were becoming more awkward for us over time.”
Designer Lydia Bogle worked with the couple to open up the space, make the kitchen more functional than it was, and provide the homeowners with a light-filled kitchen in the contemporary style they prefer today. From day one, the homeowners could tell they were in good hands with Lydia and liked all the ideas she suggested to improve the space — even her idea to remove the brick wall which the couple was fond of and assumed would remain in their new kitchen.
“We loved the brick façade that was in the old kitchen,” continues the wife, recalling her old kitchen. “So when Lydia visited for the first time and she came in and told us right away she wanted to take it out because there was so much wasted space behind it we were like, ‘no!’ But she was right. Just doing that alone opened up the kitchen. From there on we wanted to hear all her ideas.”

Koncerted - Home Automation & Home Media
Built in 1969 with only one previous owner, this quaint Cape house needed a full renovation. We took the opportunity to wire for both the client’s current and future needs. Ultra-high bandwidth cabling throughout the house allows for the next internet speed bump over 1 gigabit. The owners are self-described “recovering audiophiles,” so the speaker and equipment selection required a high-end solution to achieve this sound quality throughout 18 zones of indoor and outdoor audio. In addition, a lighting control system with close to 40 keypad locations strategically placed throughout the house was designed to let them control multiple lights from anywhere in the house, as well as to automate routine lighting scenes.
In the family room, a surround sound setup complemented a 77-inch OLED TV wrapped in a custom black walnut frame to conceal the TV. Several custom programmed iPads are located in rooms with TVs, as well as a master control in the kitchen. Lastly, smart thermostats, video doorbells, smart door locks, 11 high-resolution cameras, and a smart water leak protection system allow the owners to monitor the house whether they are home or away.

So, the idea was to brighten up the space and give the client an updated, elegant primary bathroom that is more her style and tailor-made for her routines.
Design Objectives:
- Make the space brighter.
- Create different daily routine stations to maximize functionality while keeping things clutter-free – a makeup station, a blow-dry station, and a sink-needs station.
- Achieve the client’s specific style and function needs while also keeping the look and design open to future possibilities: different users of the space/resale clients.
Design Challenges:
- Toilet cannot be moved. (In a high-rise, you can’t really move plumbing around too much when reimagining a space)
- Existing bathroom had a soffit that hid a lot of electrical wiring, so completely removing the soffit wasn’t an option.
- The blow-dry station needs to accommodate the client’s preference for standing up.
- Finding a place for the make-up station, which the client wants oriented for sitting.
- Create storage within the shower that can eliminate the clutter of personal care products that are actually needed every day. Do this, while keeping the client’s favorite things about the existing shower: the shower bench, a tub filler faucet (for rinsing shaving cream when shaving legs) and a low niche for placing her foot when shaving her legs.
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design Solutions:
- Extended a bit of wall near the toilet to give the commode its own area within the space, but without closing it off into a claustrophobic WC.
- Worked within the reality of the existing soffit situation, reshaping it to align with the new shower. Can lights were also added. Installed a beautiful ceiling light fixture that works within the new soffit shape, commanding attention and adding light, as if the sofit shape was chosen for it.
- Created a nice, furniture-looking 42”-high cabinet with pullout drawers to be the blow-dry station, complete with a mirror and a nice top. The pullout drawers are all powered, concealing a Dyson dryer and curling iron (and all the accoutrements) while keeping them plugged in, which is ideal for easy usage and put away. A stylish mirror on the wall above the cabinet, and proper lighting, make this the perfect blow-dry station. The top has a grommet that can accommodate a power cord should the client ever want to have a powered device on top of the cabinet.
- Put the sit-down makeup station where the tub used to be, putting the mirror back into a new recessed wall just a bit, allowing the area to have more room.
- Created a niche in the shower’s inner wall so that you can’t see it unless you are literally inside the shower. At the client’s request, it also has a hook so she can hang her loofa. Hiding the utility niche in this way allowed us to use the full main wall of the shower as a canvas for a beautiful accent stripe of raised decorative tile. The new shower has her old favorites, too: the tub filler, foot niche and bench.
Alicia’s client loves her new primary bathroom, especially the blow dry area. It is very accommodating for her, as a tall lady, while being very easy to use. The drawers store everything. Being powered, they make using already-plugged in appliances very easy to use and put away.
Her previous makeup station was a freestanding vanity with a single drawer, so beauty products were all over the surface top. With her new makeup station, everything is nicely tucked away and organized in drawers.
The new lighting is fantastic and the colors are light and soft. The clients loves the overall look and feel of her new bathroom and raves about how well the functionality-minded design makes her morning routine – and her life – easier and enjoyable!

A custom-built wall unit was designed to maximize storage and functionality. To enhance the overall aesthetic, crown molding was added to complement the unique sloped ceiling, along with baseboards and additional trim work. Additionally, wood floor laminate was installed throughout the entire first floor of the home, replacing outdated carpet and contributing to a cohesive, modern look.
