The soaking tub was positioned to capture views of the tree canopy beyond. The vanity mirror floats in the space, exposing glimpses of the shower behind.

We finished building “Ramble Retreat” in 2021. One of our many homes in the Asheville community of The Ramble, PLATT architects designed this stone-clad stunner. A modern rustic bathroom adds to the home’s sense of retreat, featuring a spacious square soaking tub and a unique custom-built shower that blends clean lines with natural materials. The interior makes an impression with its soaring timber framework and hand-beveled and scraped flooring. You won’t find a bit of drywall in this home, as the walls and ceilings are covered in poplar and oak paneling. An outdoor kitchen sits within the screened porch, which is surrounded with handsome stonework on the flooring, pillars, and walls. Seamless screens are barely noticeable, creating a comfortable connection with nature. This cottage is a retreat in nature, located just minutes from Asheville’s urban life.

This client loved wood. Site-harvested lumber was applied to the stairwell walls with beautiful effect in this North Asheville home. The tongue-and-groove, nickel-jointed milling and installation, along with the simple detail metal balusters created a focal point for the home. The heavily-sloped lot afforded great views out back, demanded lots of view-facing windows, and required supported decks off the main floor and lower level. The screened porch features a massive, wood-burning outdoor fireplace with a traditional hearth, faced with natural stone. The side-yard natural-look water feature attracts many visitors from the surrounding woods.
