This house began as a typical, low-lying split-level. You can still see the garage, main level, and upper/lower split on the right. We designed a new story above, with turned-gable roof lines to complement the main roof. The entire house was remodeled, plus we designed a screened porch and patio / fire pit for the rear yard. Designer's Edge Kitchen & Bath
This West Linn 1970's split level home received a complete exterior and interior remodel. The design included removing the existing roof to vault the interior ceilings and increase the pitch of the roof. Custom quarried stone was used on the base of the home and new siding applied above a belly band for a touch of charm and elegance. The new barrel vaulted porch and the landscape design with it's curving walkway now invite you in. Photographer: Benson Images and Designer's Edge Kitchen and Bath

Forward Design Build Remodel
Our Clients goal is reinforce the kitchen as the center of their home, and do so with a contemporary craftsman's style. Our solution reorganized the traditional living room and family room into one central living room, and pushes the "formal dining room" into the old family room space. Our solution separates the cooking work triangle from circulation route. We accomplish this by relocating the kitchen wall to the center of the house and push the circulation to the exterior wall.

How do you make a split entry not look like a split entry? Several challenges presented themselves when designing the new entry/portico. The homeowners wanted to keep the large transom window above the front door and the need to address “where is” the front entry and of course, curb appeal. With the addition of the new portico, custom built cedar beams and brackets along with new custom made cedar entry and garage doors added warmth and style. Final touches of natural stone, a paver stoop and walkway, along professionally designed landscaping. This home went from ordinary to extraordinary! Architecture was done by KBA Architects in Minneapolis.

Kitchen The kitchen is anchored as a gathering space with its blue-accented entertaining island. The island has plenty of seating for visiting with the cooks and for serving informal meals. The clean-up sink faces toward the east and the back deck and yard. To its right is a paneled dishwasher, and a built-in fridge that's readily accessible to the breakfast table (out of view here) and outdoor deck. To the left of the sink is an appliance garage with a lift-up door. oak trim; new oak floors; Sub Zero refrigerator; Wolf range & hood; 3cm Brazilian Black granite counters with thumbnail edge detail; 3cm Verde Pavoa granite island with thumbnail edge; lower cabinets painted Seattle Mist by Benjamin Moore; upper cabinets painted Swiss Coffee by Benjamine Moore; island painted Dark Pewter by Benjamin Moore; 6" x 13" rhomboid glazed ceramic tile at backsplash by Walker Zanger. Rumpus Room Besides providing for a second TV and sleepover destination, the Rumpus Room has a spot for brother and sister to attend to school needs at a desk area. At the side of the room is also a home office alcove for dad and his projects--both creative and business-related. Outside of this room at the back of the home is a screened porch with easy access to the once-elusive backyard. Plastic laminate countertop. This master bathroom was a such a pleasure to design. The split level marble vanity adds depth and character to the space. Polished nickel hardware keeps the space feeling classic along with the polished nickel drawer handles. Crystal knobs add a splash of elegance alone with the beaded oval nickel bathroom mirrors. The polished nickel wall sconces feel like they where original to the house. Subway tile was used in the shower and the face of the bathtub to keep with historical design elements of this 1906 beauty. Basket weave tile on the floor, marble bathtub topper and a pony wall complete this elegant bathroom.
