North 44 Land Design

Specializing in the Creation of Beautiful Outdoor Spaces My name is Ashley and I design outdoor landscapes ranging from urban gardens to large estate properties. I grew up in Toronto, where my enthusiasm for gardening started in my own backyard, planting with my parents and grandfather. The May long weekend was, and still is defined as ‘planting weekend’ where family and friends come over to assist with planting thousands of colourful annuals, followed by a barbeque, for all to sit back and enjoy the newly planted gardens, ready to take hold and dazzle with their seasonal colour. Although gardening was a hobby, I began an undergrad in architecture at McGill University in Montreal but quickly realized my passion was not with the design of buildings, but with their surrounding environments. I decided to switch to the Landscape Architecture program at the University of Guelph, where I instantly felt at home. After receiving my Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, I travelled to South America where I spent two months backpacking through Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and ended up in Argentina where I lived and worked on an organic farm in Patagonia. Though I only spent two months there, I learned so much about myself and food systems, including the delicate process of seed sowing and planting. This is also where I made the decision to start North 44 Land Design and the travel bug even helped name the company. I love what I do and seeing my clients happy when I make their backyard dreams come to life. I listen carefully to my client’s wish list, and study their unique site to create a beautiful landscape for them to enjoy for many years to come.
