We hired Anderson Design + Build for several home improvement projects of various scale which included design and project execution. The larger projects were a full scale redesign and rebuilding of the back yard and fence, a complete redesign and rebuilding of the front yards, and front door installation. I appreciated Rob's creative and practical input on designing drafts and his quality work. Rob listens to what we look for and works based on the agreed parameters which has been an important factor in making our cooperation a success. We will hire the company for future home improvement needs.

Rob is the epitome of professional and I refer him to anyone looking for a designer and/or contractor in DC. He is a one-man shop - his work is detailed, he shows up when he says he will, and best of all, he does not sit on a throne of lies. The man is honest and hardworking, almost to a fault. Best of all, not only does he execute the construction perfectly, he also designs! For example, I had an idea for a floating entertainment concourse and matching shelves. Not only did Rob design the concourse and shelves, he built them all in his workshop, and installed them.

Rob was fabulous to work with and has excellent carpentry, electrical, painting, and handywork skills. From the proposal process through to the finish product, he paid close attention to detail, ensured the design was exactly what I wanted, and completed the finished product to perfection. I get so many compliments on the work he completed in my home office. He spent as much time as he needed to get everything done and didn't seem like he was just rushing to work against the clock or move on to his next client. He was also reasonably priced, but did not sell himself short in terms of the value you get for the cost of his supreme craftsmanship. I would hire Rob again in a heartbeat to do additional carpentry work and beyond, and hope that I have the opportunity to do so again!

I have been a client of Rob Anderson and Anderson Design + Build for over a decade. Our first project together was a bump out of the patio space in front of our DC rowhouse. Rob helped us to navigate the difficult process of permitting, and testifying before the Office of Public Space as well as the Kalorama Historical Society. His design made the most out of our precious outdoor space, and the garden out front continues to be a source of pride, and enjoyment. Best of all, the the irrigation provided makes it almost completely self-sufficient. The second project we worked on together was a complete gut job of the first floor of our duplex. He ripped out existing wall to wall carpet, installed hardwood on the second floors, and suggested a cost effective porcelain tile for the first floor. He completely redesigned the kitchen and living room areas and created a fabulous open plan space out of what had been three very small rooms. Most recently, Rob has provided a delicious refresh to the first floor: wallpapering; painting walls, and creating a brand new look to our very old doors out front. Having just wrapped up my refresh, I'm looking forward to working with Rob again to update our 90s era bathrooms. Rob is honest, patient, creative, collaborative and an absolute pleasure even when things go wrong. His ability to troubleshoot and creatively solve problems with a clear head is impressive.

We strongly recommend Rob! Rob did an amazing job building an entertainment center, an entry-way storage unit and a desk/shelving unit in our house. We were constantly impressed with Rob's attention to the most minute details of the work so that it would match perfectly with the room (e.g. matching paint, building seamless lines with the existing space, setting up electronics, etc). Rob was extremely communicative throughout the process; this was particularly helpful since it was our first time doing any work like this in our home. In the earliest stages, we enjoyed exchanging ideas with Rob about what we wanted to do - he struck the perfect balance between capturing our vision for the space and inserting his own great ideas for the project based on his deep experience with what works best. These projects were all built in our main living space, and Rob was super professional about keeping the area clean and tidy so that it wouldn't interfere with our day-to-day lives. We were also expecting our first baby at the time and we were so grateful that Rob kept up a steady pace of work to finish the projects well in advance of our due date - one less thing for us to worry about! Overall, we are absolutely thrilled with the quality of the work and how these pieces turned out. They add significant value to our home and we love receiving compliments from our guests. We would strongly recommend Rob to anyone considering similar projects in their home.

Whole heartedly and without reservation I recommend Rob as having the best skills in design interior and exterior landscaping and materials, complete integrity in every aspect of follow thru, seamless in the people he is general contractor over - the best decision we ever made was going with him. He can render drawings, select materials, can take one to design supply places to aid in selection, pull permits from dc, he even ran the forklift as a favor to me https://flickr.com/photos/7972361@N08/sets/72157635956341236 https://www.flickr.com/gp/rocketjohnnyk/24Um3r interior renovation (during - the gutting) Rob facilitiated over 8 months of protracted negotiations with DC with us for a public space permit for our patio outdoor renovation, it was relentless and extensive effort just for the permits and the hearings, as DC treated our patio renovation with the same scrutiny as a business getting a fire pit on a public sidewalk would - he did drawings that were not only renderings for this, they were build drawings signed off by engineers as req'd by DC government for formal filing, though he also does full color conceptual renderings. This effort also involved historical society DC govt people so Rob graciously championed this effort long before the build that occurred quick. Rob always works with one to point out areas of concern so one always makes informed decisions before the fact and Rob ensures jobs are fully characterized with costs laid out and signed on by him and you so cost escalation is controlled. As we did the exterior renovation, I changed mid build to expand it after the demolition revealed we could do more to enhance our outdoor space so Rob and us discussed it and we formalized changes and costs. On our indoor renovation, Rob also pointed out as the effort proceeded as he found issues that were inherent in the condo design that needed rectifying that were only discover-able after the work started (sub walls studs not plumb for cabinet hanging) He pointed out needed solutions and scope changes and again formalized the job deltas so we knew the cost delta.

As the owner of a small, awkwardly shaped condo in NW DC, I know my options for redesign were limited by space and the facetthat our front yard is considered Public Space. I hired Rob to first do a patio makeover. His work speaks for itself: design is innovative and materials first rate, maximizing available space while appeasing the Historical Preservation board. A year later, based on the success of the first project, I again hired Rob to design and implement a complete gutting of my first floor, installing a brand new GORGEOUS kitchen, and tearing up existing carpet and flooring. I am THRILLED with the result. Rob has a great working relationship with subcontractors and suppliers. He his honest, reliable and so creative.

My husband and I contracted with Anderson Design + Build to totally refurbish the ceiling, balustrade and roof of the front porch at our 1939 historical colonial revival home in NW Washington, DC. In addition to the carpentry work, Rob and company installed electricity, pendant lights and a ceiling fan for a grand effect in September of 2014. Rob was a pleasure to work with — he came in at budget (which was an extremely fair price), on time and was very responsive. Thank you, Rob, for our beautiful new porch!

Rob and his crew were respectful, reliable and and most importantly communicated well, giving status updates continuously throughout construction. From grading my flood prone backyard, to hand cutting stone pavers building and installing a custom fence, and dry stacking flower planters, the backyard has now transformed into a 3 season outdoor living space. This winter we're putting in a fireplace. Boom! 4 Seasons. Excited.

We were extremely pleased with the work of Anderson Design +Build. They built a front walkway for us this summer. Rob met with us, listened to what we wanted and answered all of our questions. He created a detailed proposal including 3 different options with estimates as well as photos. Once we decided on one of the options, we agreed on a time when the work would be done. Rob's crew arrived on time on the day they were scheduled to begin. They were extremely professional, highly skilled and worked efficiently. They destroyed and hauled away the remains of the old walkway (parts of which had already been torn up due to some plumbing work we had done) and then began work on the new walkway. I was home for part of the time they were working and my daughter and I watched them work. I was amazed to see the level of skill and precision that went into the work. The finished product was a beautiful walkway that exceeded our expectations. It was exactly what we wanted and I am not sure that would have been the case had we gone with another company. Rob really listened to what we wanted and understood our tastes. After the work was done, he followed up with us to make sure everything was completed to our satisfaction. We are constantly receiving compliments about our walkway. If we have ever have the need for more work, we will definitely used Anderson Design+Build. I would highly recommend this company.

I would like to provide a 5-star recommendation for Anderson Design+Build. The quality and the professionalism of their service was outstanding. Our project required both demolition and construction to provide a covered walkway to an existing structure. This was a job with a very tight turnaround that was deadline specific, not only was it done well and on budget it was finished a week in advance. Anderson Design+Build was accommodating to our requests and creative in their solutions. We were so pleased with the outcome that we are engaging Anderson Design+Build to work with us on a much larger more complex redevelopment project.

We've used Anderson Design + Build twice now and plan to use them again. They completed a custom flagstone patio for us 2 years ago complete with matching bench seating, lighting and fire pit. We liked it so much, we hired them again to build a matching built-in bbq. All of which continues to receive glowing compliments. The owner Rob is honest, his prices fair, and his crews work hard. Only complaint is it can take a while to get estimates during busy times of year - so plan accordingly (If I could have given 4.5 stars I would have). We recommend them to friends and neighbors and feel good about doing so on here again.
