In 2016 we renovated a small lake home in Pewaukee. We were so pleased with the professionalism of the Bartelt staff and especially Mary Sweet who was our designer/project manager. We had such a great experience that we are using them to add on to our home.The pictures I posted are before and after of our kitchen. We get compliments all of the time!

Bartelt completed the renovation of our Wauwatosa craftsman bungalow’s existing attic space into an amazing master suite. The project included the addition of a master bedroom and bathroom, replacing the second floor windows, adding a maintenance free exterior and composite cedar shake siding to the upper level of the house, and roofing the house and the garage. Bartelt designer, Mary Sweet exceeded our expectations with her creativity and efficient use of space. Through the use of pocket doors, built in cabinets and vaulted ceilings, the smart design incorporated all of our requests while creating an incredible space that remains true to the original craftsman detail of the main level of our home. The Bartelt team was extremely organized and respectful of our time, through the selection process, bidding process, and scheduling meetings with contractors as the renovation progressed. The Bartelt Team offered options when they saw an opportunity for improvement during the course of the renovation, and kept the project on schedule as the various contractors worked together to address change orders. The project started as scheduled, the project time line moved smoothly, and final completion was within the established time frame. Bartelt managed every detail of the project and always kept us in the loop regarding what to expect each week. Very happy with the design build process. As with any remodel project there were a few hiccups but Bartelt was very responsive in working things out. Don, Terri, Matt, & Heather were great.

Rick and his team assisted us with our kitchen and basement remodeling project. The design team started the process and they provided us with many outstanding design ideas that we eagerly implemented. My wife and I were also impressed that during the bidding process Rick accompanied every subcontractor on a tour of our house so they could study the existing situation. This was done so that each contractor could provide firm pricing. We had a unique problem with our floor joists that was discovered by Rick and his carpenter. They developed a plan to correct the situation and provided us with the cost up front. The other two remodeling companies that we considered did not bring any of the subcontractors through our house and neither of these companies had any idea of the challenges with the floor joists. I has much less faith in their pricing. There were no surprises and no change orders. Rick was not our lowest bidder but we knew he had our back. The entire project was a big success. Thanks Rick!

I was looking to rebuild my small lake home on a narrow lot. Bartelt won my services working with their architect who came up with a creative small home, open concept plan with a vacation home feel to it. It was a custom design that met my requirements. They were also able to offer several possible changes which allowed me to chose the ones to meet my budget. The carpentry crew was skilled, dedicated, and easy to work with. The office support on scheduling was very timely, and there was a daily on site expeditor to help resolve any issues. The new home was completed on schedule in spite of one of the coldest winters in this area in years.

I have known Rick for a number of years and there is NO ONE else I can think of that brings the quality of craftsmanship, details and truly unique designs to the table for his customers.

This review is a bit overdue considering I have been enjoying my beautiful new kitchen, mudroom, master bed/bath and bonus room for several months now, but I wanted to be sure to give kudos to those along the way who have earned it. From the beginning of the process I felt my vision was received and incorporated into the design, beautifully. I had several years in my old space to mentally create a dream kitchen and Bartelt made that dream a reality. What is unique about our home, which also made it more challenging for Bartelt, was that it was originally a barn built in 1850. It had since been converted into a house in the 40's, but was in need of some updating. It was very important to us that whatever we did would still honor the history of the home as a barn. I feel Bartelt did a great job maintaining the character of the home, while at the same time updating it. From Rick, the owner, to the designers, to the rough-in carpenters(who were here everyday when they said they would be and were all business while here) to the finish carpenters(who were very clean and meticulously detailed), I only have positive things to say. Then, there is my project manager, Don. All I can say is I hope you are lucky enough to get him. He was the bomb and will forever now be our friend. Thanks Bartelt and crew for dealing with the occasional meltdown, water leaks that had nothing to do with you, a brand new puppy, We couldn't be happier with the final product, the work along the way, and mostly the people who make up Bartelt Remodeling. Thanks for turning our house into our dream house!

Bartelt recently completed a kitchen remodeling project for us and the entire experience was excellent. Bartelt uses great sub-contractors, employs knowledgeable, experienced and courteous employees and insists on work of only the highest quality. Perhaps most impressive, was the coordination they were able to achieve between the different trades to accomplish the project in a timely manner. The inevitable "glitches" that can happen when remodeling an older home, were dealt with quickly, professionally and in a completely satisfactory manner. I highly recommend this contractor!

Complete remodel of three bathrooms, replacement of floors in lower level foyer, removal and refinish of ceilings in upper areas, refinishing of doors and woodwork, replacement of front entry and repair and painting of walls and ceilings in bedrooms. Contractor was very responsive to our requests, provided very competent and skilled craftspeople and design support for the work, had well versed, personable and extremely helpful project management on site during the project. This contractor approach this project as if it were their own home.

We hired Bartelt to remodel our unfinished lower level. Their expertise in designing the space to fill our needs was amazing. All employees and contractors were extremely professional and polite. Timelines were communicated and the project was very well managed by the office personnel and foreman. If you are looking for quality craftsmanship and amazing attention to detail for a space that is unique and perfectly tailored to your specifications, Bartelt is the company for you.

The experience was terrific. A remodeling project can be stressful but the Bartelt professionals minimized our stress by minimizing the time we were without kitchen cooking capability to less then a week. We were hardly inconvenienced during the project. By them moving appliances, making temporary connections and thinking out of the box we were able to use the kitchen throughout the project. The workmanship was first rate and we receive compliments all the time on the design, quality of materials and how our kitchen has been improved in appearance and functionality. Perhaps the greatest testament to our satisfaction is that our kitchen project is the second remodeling project we've done with Bartelt. A few years earlier Bartelt finished our basement so when it came to remodeling the kitchen, Bartelt had a huge advantage over the other contractors.

I really enjoyed working with Bartelt Remodeling. Mary Sweet was wonderful in helping me make some big decisions early on in the remodeling process. We started 7/13 with kitchen gutting/remodeling that led into family room flooring and laundry room tile. The project turned out beautiful. in 2014 we called them again for 2 bathroom gutting/remodeling. in 2015 we called them a third time to replace some doors. Obviously we loved their work. I would highly highly recommend them for any remodeling project. They are a very professional group to work with.

I had other bids for less money but I believe the extra cost was well worth the expense. For the whole project I only had 3 down days where a sub wasn’t on site. Everything was well planned out and the project went like clockwork. All of my concerns and questions were handled in an expedient manor. The work preformed was all top quality. About 6 months after the project was completed there were some mechanical items that failed and needed to be replaced. The failure was a manufactures problem and not an installation issue but Bartelt took care of the problem quickly. This was another reason for paying extra you get a company that will take care of you even after the work is done and the final payment has been made. I would not hesitate to recommend this company or to use them again.

Bartelts has completed one major home renovation project to finish our basement and is in the middle of another big project to build an extended three car garage and heated shop. They have been amazing to work with, making our lives easy in the management of multiple contractors. From Rick the owner, to Mary the designer, to Don the Contractor Manager to Terri in the office, we have very positive experiences. The work they did is outstanding and we would highly recommend them.

The project was the remodeling of an existing attic space into a incredible master suite. My wife and I planned this remodel for at least 10 years. We met with Matt Retzak their Designer at our home to begin the process of transformation. Matt listened to our needs, dreams and expectations very attentively. He returned shortly with preliminary drawings and a virtual reality tour via his computer. We were overwhelmed by his attention to detail as well as his listening skills. He then successfully incorporated everything we asked for and more into a final proposal. We agreed to a price, signed the contract, sealed the deal and a building permit was secured. This project involved destruction of existing rooms before construction could begin. This was completed without issue and passed all inspections. Every construction step was carefully planned and executed to finite detail. Every step was inspected and approved. Our master suite is composed of the following elements: Large walk in closets, custom made built in dressers, large linen closet, complete bathroom with tiled floor, large mirrored custom vanity and a shower with bench and glass doors. The wood work is all oak and mirrors the existing architectural features of the existing home. The floor is the original fur pine that was there when the house was built. It was sanded, finished and sealed to look like new. Every member of the Bartelt staff, crew and subs were professional, extremely helpful, friendly courteous, patient and kind to my wife and myself as we progressed through the steps of making our dream master suite a reality. We would recommend Bartelt to anyone and for any project. They have the ability to make the complex simple, doable and affordable. I worked with Bartelt for over 6 months - entire first floor remolding. We worked well together and I was pleased with their work. The contractors that I worked with were also accommodating and thorough. The general foreman assigned to my job, impressed me with his attention to detail which was carried out by the entire Bartelt Company. I look forward to working with them again .... Phase 2.

We used Bartelt Remodeling to replace the custom windows in our home. The carpentry work was beautifully done. They were careful to match the color and style of the existing woodwork. The work site was always left clean and well organized at the end of the work day. We love our new windows. We were so pleased that we had them return to remodel our screened in porch. We worked with their designer to come up with a plan that worked with the existing structure and our budget. We are very happy with how the room turned out. We would definitely use them again in the future.

We are 100% happy with the job Bartelt The Remodeling Resource did with our home. They took a small two bedroom, 1.5 bath, 1938 rustic house and transformed it to a home for our growing family. All while keeping the look and feel of the original home. When visitors come over they don't know where the old part of the house stops and the addition begins. That says a lot about the design and the details they didn't over look. If we were to start the project over we would 100% hire Bartelt again.

Bartelt renovated most of the first floor of our 1880's farmhouse including the kitchen, powder room, dining room. We kept the basic footprint but completely gutted the interior down to the studs. Bartlet did a great job and I found them all very easy to work with. Any questions we had were addressed promptly and the Designer (Matt) was wonderful about making changes and always available to come to our house and brainstorm. It was a long project and we were living in the house during the remodel. Bartelt made the process as painless as possible and really went out of their way to help us. We are so thankful to have had all the professionals at "Bartelt-The Remodeling Resource" complete our now beautiful kitchen. We were living with a demolished, incomplete kitchen when our first contractor "left us". Rick listened to our problems and dreams. With his capable staff, our problem turned into an even better design and completion than we imagined. We felt like we were an episode on "HGTV"! Highly professional, friendly, very capable in coordinating all the work that was needed including talking with former subcontractors from first contractor. Spending time and "shopping" with the designer, fitting our already purchased appliances into the design, attention to details of construction and finishing made "Bartelt" an excellent choice for us.

The design, workmanship and customer service were top-notch. We were so happy with our first project that we did not hesitate selecting Bartelt for our bathroom remodel.

Early in March 2013, Bartelt completed the remodeling of the first floor of our home. The project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget. We could not be more pleased with the results of their work. We were introduced to Bartelt following our initial contact and an invitation to visit their office. Arrangements were made to have Mary Sweet, lead designer, visit our home and gather information necessary to complete a schematic design and prepare a preliminary budget. She listened intently to our explanation of vision and needs and two weeks later presented a schematic plan and a preliminary budget. When we found no need to change anything in the functional layout of the schematic plan we knew we were working with the right company. Construction documents were prepared and the project kicked off on November 5, 2012. Terry Reno, lead rough carpenter, took about a week to complete the demolition work. When I visited the site I was struck by the cleanliness and organization of the work area. Terry continued the necessary rough carpenter work, finding several existing structural issues that needed correction. Terry made the corrections explaining what needed to be done and why. No cost was added to the project. Jeff Boesel, Production Manager, was in charge of the day to day work on site. He usually made site visits at the end of the day to insure that day’s production was completed correctly. Jeff is more than a manager; he is a doer also-not afraid to get his hands dirty. His attention to detail is remarkable, and he is always working to make sure the customer is receiving the value and quality that was expected. Duane Wolf was a memorable member of the team. Duane is the lead finish carpenter and is as skilled carpenter as one can hope to have involved in their remodeling project. Duane is satisfied with nothing less than a perfect job as evidenced by the fit and finish of the work he performed here. Duane was also asked to repair some existing carpentry issues which he did willing and flawlessly. Communication with Bartelt occurred daily, and sometimes hourly. Terri Inhoff, responsible for scheduling and work coordination, kept us updated on the schedule and costs. Terri responded to our emails without hesitation, usually within the hour. Change orders were not issued without our knowledge of the cost and change in schedule and only with our approval. All but one change order was necessitated by our decision to change the work or materials. We were very pleased with the sub-contractors who worked on our project. Rick Bartelt has assembled a group of go-to subcontractors who have quality and customer satisfaction as prime goals in the delivery of their services. Every subcontractor went above and beyond their contracts to insure we were a satisfied customer. They accomplished their goal. The old adage in architectural design states that “form follows function”. Mary Sweet designed an extremely functional kitchen in which it is a pleasure to prepare food, dine, and work. But it is also a very attractive space, using warm colors and durable materials. We relied on Mary to help us through the selection process of cabinets, countertops, paint colors, flooring and just about everything else. When we discussed choices, and could not agree, we said “let’s ask Mary”. Mary always had sensible, coordinated, and reasoned answers to our questions. Mary was also responsible for the functional success of other space; the powder room, laundry room, dining room and family room. When considering the decision to recommend a remodeling contractor, the questions I would pose are: did they do what they said they would do, did they do it on time and on budget, and most importantly, would you hire them again? Bartelt did a great job! We won the COTY for the best remodel in 2009. Lifted the ceiling in our lower level and did a wine room, bar room and a theater area. I would use Bartelt for any further projects!

Our kitchen/bath/utilty room remodel experience with Bartelt was wonderful. We spent months developing oru project, and Rick and Matt were patient throughout the process as we considered options to add a room and move an exterior wall to other alternatives to stay within the existing structure. We must have considered at least 6 different design options and they were very accommodating, pricing each for us so that we could make an informed decision. Rick's recommendation to go with quarter sawn oak to complement our formal dining room set in the adjacent space is the centerpiece of the project. We also enjoyed working with Mary, for all of the highlights for the project - the selection of the bath fixtures, the lighting selections, the knobs and pulls, etc. The construction team was also a joy to work with. They were efficient and quality of the work is superb. Everyone went the extra mile, rebuilding the dryer venting system, moving the light fixture another 9 inches, the in and under cabinet lighting,and floating the ceiling to make it all come together. We had a whole house interior remodel. We had a beautiful 1884 house in a great location but it had been converted to apartments and had a lot of original wiring and plumbing. We wanted to convert it back to a great lake house. The architect helped us design a great new floor plan that maximized the home's assets and included some unique special features that we wanted. They reinforced floors, walls and windows and replaced wiring, plumbing and woodwork. They essentially built a new interior that was stunning and yet maintained the style of the house. They also renovated an enclosed porch and an exterior porch that allowed us to make the most of the lake view. Bartelt started on time and stayed very close to the promised timeline. Weekly construction meetings were very helpful for keeping communication flowing and answering questions. The project manager and office manager were very responsive and helpful. The rough carpenters were fantastic - doing a great job and cleaning up every night. We had some additional costs because we decided to improve certain items as we uncovered hidden problems. Bartelt always did a good job of explaining our options. Their finish carpenter was a magician with the way that he installed the millwork and customized so many areas. The designer helped with suggestions for finishing touches that met our style preferences but also worked well with the style of the house. The overall experience was so much less stressful than we expected and actually very enjoyable. The entire staff was very professional and fun to work with. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends.
