We built a home with Bill Clark Homes (BCH) and need to caution future buyers about potential severe site drainage issues and subsequent warranty disputes. While the physical home itself met expectations, based on the resulting chronic standing water and damage, we conclude the property grading and subsurface drainage are a failure. The Drainage Failure: Standing Water & Algae The rear and side yards consistently fail to drain, holding water for unacceptable periods. During one period, standing pools of water persisted for over two weeks, leading to the growth of pond-type algae and creating a clear health and insect hazard in our yard. This chronic saturation has been financially damaging: we have lost multiple trees and plants due to root rot and constant flooding. The dead and damaged plants include: One Cherry Tree Two Emerald Green Trees One Mop Tree Multiple Rose Bushes One Small Crape Myrtle The Builder's Dismissal (A Cautionary Tale) We contacted Bill Clark Homes regarding the damage and requested a resolution. A field manager was sent to inspect the property, but the outcome was profoundly unsatisfactory and dismissive: High-Water Table Claim: The manager insinuated the problem could have been due to a "high-water table" specific to the home's location (Which they built on). The manager's claim of a 'high-water table' suggests to us that the builder may have been aware of poor site conditions, yet the finished property lacked functional, engineered solutions. Blame Shift: The manager insinuated the issue could have been due to our watering schedule, a schedule which is mandated by their own HOA. We believe this attempt to shift blame, given the extent of the water issue, was unprofessional and baseless. Final Resolution & Warning When escalated, a company representative stated that their field manager knew his job and refused to continue the discussion due to our frustration (Yes, I was very upset, which I think was warranted, given the cost, damage, and dismissal). Buyer Warning: Be aware that Bill Clark Homes' position, based on our experience, is that if your property develops a major drainage flaw, it is your problem to live with. The company refused to offer an engineered remediation plan or compensation for the plants lost to their construction/grading failure. Prospective buyers should exercise caution and should consider hiring an independent engineer to review lot grading before closing.

I am so frustrated with Bill Clark homes, I just don't know where to go from here. I closed on my home May, 2021 and I'm still waiting on them to complete my three seasons room. When I signed off on the construction loan. With a commitment of completion within 3 months. I understand covid has delayed construction, and I know many others in my neighborhood have had delays. I then received a delay of an additional three months, which took me to early November. I cannot get an answer from Bill Clark. Email after email goes unanswered, and when I eventually get an answer, it is without any information, or plan how they're going to move this forward. Plan B? Other suppliers? At this time, Bill Clark has shown no interest in getting this off their books. The most frustrating part is, the other builder in our neighborhood has completed a three seasons room on a home that is not even turned over yet. Clearly supplies are available. I I can't express how frustrated I am with his run around, and more than that, cannot stand being ignored.

We built out home in 2016 and while our house is beautiful from the outside the list of problems has grown and grown. They were 4 months past the date we were told our home would be done. We had several mistakes made in our construction. The woman who helped us with the design side of things was not as knowledgeable as she should be when it came to features we could have added to our home. Shortly after we moved in we had several problems with our heating and air conditioning. We spent our first winter without heat several times over the winter and even had no heat on Christmas. Our second summer in our new home we had a flood in the second floor from the ac unit cause damage to our upstairs with water pouring out of the ceiling. The painters did a second rate job and the caulking was a mess. Now we are 6 months out of warranty and our ice maker in our Frigidaire freezer stoped working. The dishwasher was not working well for some time. We discovered there was a slow leak. There is no telling how long this was going on for. We noticed it when the wood flooring in our kitchen started to pop up. After lifting several of the warped boards we found terrible water damage. We have tons of water under our floors with mold and a horrible smell. The damage is throughout the entire kitchen into part of our living room. The floors will have to be replaced and we have to have a mold removal company come in. This is sure to cost us in the thousands. Since we are 6 months out or warranty this is now our burden. While the people that we have felt with in the past in the main office have been great and repairs were made in a timely fashion it is very upsetting that we have been in our “ dream home” for a year and a half and now have to have this nightmare of damage and expense and well as the fear of mold effecting our children’s health not to mention the inconvenience and mental stress this puts on us. I expected to have no real issues since this is a new construction. Yes they have fixed the things they legally had to it not something you expect to have happen when you build a new and expensive home. The model home was constructed beautifully and we had expected that level of work in our home as well. We had thought we were lucky as our neighbors home had so many problems from mold to poping up floors and after they moved in they had their house re worked on for over a year. They turned out to be they lucky ones because at least their home was still under the warranty. This level of continual damage makes us fearful of what will happen next. We are great full it’s just water damage and not a fire or something life threatening but we are also scared to think what will happen next. When you move into your dream home that you have worked and saved for your entire life you expect things to last more that 18 months nor do I think you should have to worry about the health out your family. We could not be more unhappy with what has happened and can not wait to fix the damage and sell this house. I would not recommend building with bill clark to anyone. The stress this has put on our family is so great and now it’s becoming a financial burden as well. We were fooled into thinking we were going to be getting our forever dream home that has now become our worst nightmare.

Our house is perfect for us! Although it is not custom we feel it has been semi custom. The price was consistent with other news homes in our area. The design process was simple and the support we got from the sales team was amazing. Even the builder warranty is great! We love our neighborhood and we are really enjoying our home.

Excellent team of home builders from design to finish! They say what they'll do, and do what they say. The Legacy Custom Homes division builds and excellent product at reasonable prices. Sales and Design (Robin Campbell), Construction (Gregg Wallace) were the pro's on our team.

Bill Clark Homes is an extremely professional and caring contracting company. Every person I dealt with from the sales representative to the site foreman, Lee, and warranty department, are exceptional in every way. They are polite, extremely helpful and always follow through on every question and problem I have encountered during the building process and since then. I highly recommend Bill Clark Homes to anyone building a new home.
