Block Renovation

Block charges a premium for services that are basically a "finder's fee". It is nice to pay a third party who keeps records of payments for the contractors, but there is not much service besides that. We had an issue with our contractor, and it took a full 2 weeks to get a hold of customer service after calling and emailing almost every day. We had an issue with our contractor and they were happy to listen to our issues over the phone but did not do much to resolve. They tout that they are "The only AI-powered renovation platform and marketplace built for personalized home remodels" (from their LinkedIn page) but that isn't at all helpful, as there is no service involved.

I was really impressed with the support from Block Renovation. At first I thought it was too good to be true because there was no cost to me, but it was exactly as described. They were prompt with their communication and engagement. They provided me with 3 vetted contractors and then were checking in along the way throughout the project. Their platform for payment was also super easy and made that process seamless.

We were very happy with our overall experience with Block and our contractor for our kitchen + laundry room renovation. It was important to us that we worked with a trustworthy contractor and knowing that Block already vetted them, made the process a lot less stressful. The design process was streamlined, our only critique is that it felt a little rushed and it would have been helpful to have more time with the designer (hence the 4 stars).

I recently renovated my 1970's condo bathroom with Block. I desperately wanted to modernize the space and they were able to complete my vision happen with a full gut renovation in just 3.5 weeks!

We renovated our Co-OP building lobby and common areas using block. This was my second time hiring block and I had a fabulous experience. Block tailored the process to the buildings needs, which included renderings, assistance with material selection and quantity calculations, as well as payment installments and clear breakdowns of costs along the way. I absolutely love our contractor and his team- they were highly professional and finished the project on budget and on time- two nearly impossible feats in construction! Thank you Block! We love our beautiful new lobby!!!!!!

Block Renovations has proven to be a disastrous choice. Despite promises of price assurance on their website, we discovered our contractor was charging over 40% more than standard prices. “The milestone payments” demanded an exorbitant 80% upfront. Escalation support was laughable, offering no resolution when we were scammed by our contractor for work he never performed. Block's ineffective customer service simply redirected us to communicate with our unreliable contractor, showcasing their useless customer service. The workmanship warranty is far from reliable, as we had electrical and plumbing work done by an unlicensed person. Block's policy allowing contractors to use non-capable workers without proper verification from the contractor is a serious flaw. Engaging with Hiring Block and the contractor they suggested has proven to be the most regrettable choice throughout our entire renovation journey. Despite our concerns as clients, they consistently side with the contractor, demonstrating a lack of regard for our issues. I strongly caution others against choosing Block renovations, as their service has proven to be ineffective and unhelpful.

We used BLOCK for a large en-suite bathroom renovation, which included a complicated floor-height change and the addition of a standing tub. The design process was a breeze, and the contractor they found for us was a gem. They were careful and respectful of our home, and the quality of their work was outstanding. We'll be working with them again for a kitchen rearrange in the next year or so.

This was my first time doing any major renovations to my home, so having Block there to guide me through the process made things a lot less scary for me. I found that the design process was super helpful, and my designer helped bring my ideas to life while keeping my budget and reality in mind. However, the coordination between Block and my contractors let a few significant details fall through the cracks, which wound up costing me a lot of time, money and heartache. Overall, I would recommend Block for a first time remodeler and urge them to make sure there's strong communication between design and contractor to get the best value possible.

I had an amazing experience working with Block--at every step of the process, they were very quick, thorough, and attentive to our needs. Even though we were doing a smaller kitchen job, the designer was still very helpful and gave us a lot of options to choose from. The best part was that were were matched to an incredible contractor, which was something that we were having a difficult time doing in the city. Our experience was incredible and we highly recommend Block and look forward to working with them again. We were overwhelmed with the idea of finding a contractor for a recent renovation (new kitchen, and floors for the whole place). Block learned what we needed, paired us with a great contractor, and helped along the way with whatever we needed. Would use them again for other projects!

We worked with Block to do a renovation of 2 bathrooms in a NYC co-op. I definitely recommend them. In NYC, half the battle is the co-op board and all sorts of city permits and a multitude of fees, and Block helped every step of the way. We were lucky to be paired with a fabulous contractor (Aptel in NJ) who has been wonderful. Our bathrooms are beautiful and Block representatives were always available to answer questions or help move the process along.

I had Block plan and design a tub to shower bathroom renovation. Everything prior to break ground was great -- team was responsive and the design looked good to me. I was happy with the rendered result. I ran into a couple issues though -- 1. Tub to shower conversion was not feasible and required a quick redesign. There was no additional design session to address this. 2. Parts for the renovation would randomly show up without notice. 3. Colors for the rendering were pretty off from the result. Overall Block provided the most value with the design, sourcing materials, and finding an available GC.
