About Us

Osprey Construction is the premier Daufuskie Island source for residential home building and remodeling. With 30+ years in the construction industry and 10+ years on Daufuskie Island, owner Chuck Hunter is committed to quality, value and environmental responsibility. Based on Daufuskie Island, Osprey is well experienced with the logistics of building on an island with no bridge. On-island storage and machinery makes building easier and more cost effective for clients. It also allows Osprey to be a “hands-on” builder with the unique capacity for custom onsite millwork. One of Osprey’s new projects is The Sanctuary – twelve new distinctive homes located on a peninsula at one of Haig Point’s lagoons. The homes are designed to take advantage of their unique environment, each of them reflecting the Sea Island lifestyle with private deck/dock at water’s edge. Like all Osprey homes, The Sanctuary is being constructed not only for ease of living and comfort, but also with high structural integrity. All homes feature energy efficiency, water conservation and environmentally friendly building practices & materials.

Chuck and his team at Osprey Construction are delightful to work with. We had significant damage to our home from hurricane Matthew. Chuck was there to help us throughout the entire time, from clean-up to planning to rebuilding. He went out of his way to make sure the process made us comfortable. His team was also very good at communicating and explaining next steps and processes. When we first met with Chuck and Andrew, we had a concept of how we wanted to rebuild. We also had guidelines to follow since we needed to build according to the footprint of the demolished area. Both gave us excellent advice on what we could do to make sure we were building a solid structure while maintaining aesthetic appearances. As we were in residence during the reconstruction, we saw the daily advances made by his crew. They were awesome and great to work with. We are very happy with the finished product and would use Chuck and his team again for any construction or building needs in the future.

Chuck Hunter, owner of Osprey Construction Inc, engaged me about 2 years ago to assist with the exterior details and the interior finishes, furnishing and equipping of a model home in a unique, 12 home cottage community he is building on Daufuskie Island, SC. In addition to being one of the kindest and sincere humans I know, Chuck's building skills are more than impressive. He has committed to building on an island without bridges. This is no easy feat; however, Chuck handles this with grace and professionalism. I have seen 4 or 5 other homes he has built and each one is handcrafted and built with pride. His trades are skilled and dedicated and he treats them with kindness and patience. Chuck is not your average home builder - he is a craftsman and carpenter. Each home Chuck builds is special, as he adds his own personal touch to each one. Hands down, if I had to build another home, Chuck Hunter would be my first - and hopefully only - phone call.

Building on Haig Point can be a daunting process we were warned, an island without a bridge meaning everything needs to be "imported", even more so from the 1000 miles away where we lived. We had purchased an older cottage that needed to be totally remodeled. We started interviewing builders and then meet Chuck Hunter. Chuck listened to all of our requirements and desires and then brought his creative and innovative experience into the project. He was willing to accommodate our wants with his artistry, as he created a finished product that was magazine ready and within our budget. We couldn't be happier with the final product and are thrilled every time we come home to the magic of Daufuskie. Chuck completed the project and has become a friend we always look forward to seeing when we are "home."

I have used Osprey Construction on a rolling basis as we have reworked, repaired, replaced almost everything is our vacation home over the course of two years. One project led to the next. The costs met the estimates. The work is first rate; no cutting corners and I know there will be no surprises. Chuck's years of experience let him easily guide me to great results. Home renovation can be stressful from afar but I trust Osprey to manage my project, my home, in my absence.

Osprey did a great job with our repairs. Purchased a house out of foreclosure with somewhat unknown problems. They fixed what needed to be fixed in a timely manner and at a cost that was very fair. The work was well done, and everyone involved was diligent at checking on our satisfaction throughout the process.

Osprey Construction completed a full renovation of a home that I purchased on Daufuskie Island, SC. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of their team. Chuck Hunter provided me with several great ideas as I contemplated options for opening up the first floor and creating additional outdoor space on the second floor. Due to the fact that Daufuskie Island is a bridge-less location, the timing was probably somewhat extended when compared to mainland jobs of similar size. I am very happy with the work and would recommend Osprey Construction for all major projects

Chuck Hunter, owner of Osprey Construction, continually demonstrates an attention to detail in every aspect of construction. We engaged him to build our new house on Daufuskie Island (an island with no bridge, so the logistics of crew, equipment, and materials is a major consideration). The house is undoubtedly the most solidly constructed one we've ever had built, with several innovative construction techniques designed to prepare the house for any weather or wave contingency. In addition, he went out of his way to engage our desires in design and finish details throughout the house. Finally, his in-house finish carpenter built beautiful, unique cabinetry in practically every room. We couldn't be happier with the end product.
