Chris Shields was instrumental in our kitchen remodeling. He did an amazing job and made my family (including my kids) very happy! My husband and I wanted to connect our living spaces by opening walls, optimize our kitchen’s space and functionality while preserving the feel of our existing house. We had a good architect and a knowledgeable contractor, so we thought we had it covered. The reality is, remodeling is not as simple as it seems, and Chris came in the picture when we most needed help. He was critical in many aspects of remodeling from selecting the finishes to meticulously reviewing and modifying our electrical/switches plan (which ended up much better after he made the changes). He tactfully steered me away from a counter top color I liked - this was the best thing for creating the timeless kitchen we were after! At times, things did not go smoothly with demolition/installation, and Chris would make a call to get the crew back on track. These are just a few examples of many things he did. Overall, Chris is an extremely reliable designer with an analytical mind. He has knowledge of the trade business and is always willing to help resolve problems, including technical ones, outside the typical design work. Chris was a truly is a pleasure to work and we will hire him in again without hesitation.

My wife and I cannot recommend working with Chris any more highly - he was sure-handed in guiding us through a renovation of our Russian Hill (SF) condo. The choice of colors, materials, and the integration of the finishes with the overall design was outstanding. During the project he always made us feel part of the process, never "forced" us to choose something we were uncomfortable with, yet clearly had a vision for the project that transcended what we could have thought about for ourselves. Just one example, I was leery of putting in a hanging light fixture in the atrium that serves as our dining room, with an 18 foot ceiling height. When we finally decided to do this, it became one of the central features of our house, and my wife is always proudly pointing out how well it came out, and how unique it is, and all the thought that went into it. All of the design was done with the idea that we had a definite budget, but were willing to spend what was necessary - we just wanted "bang for our buck!" and Chris was with us every step of the way. He made our condo into a place we are proud to share with our friends and family, yet it is still a home that we enjoy living in year round. Well recommended!
