I am writing this review to share our positive experience with Conscious Environments, a company that designed and remodeled our entire home landscaping. We hired them (December 2021) after browsing Houzz.com, we were not disappointed. The entire team from Conscious Environments was professional, courteous, and attentive to our needs and preferences. They listened to our ideas (anchored around a Struxture patio cover with Phantom shades to control the elements) and incorporated them into a stunning design that matched our vision. They also suggested some creative and practical solutions that enhanced the functionality and aesthetics of our outdoor space. They completed the project on time and on budget Summer 2022. We are very happy with the results. Our home landscaping has been transformed into a beautiful and inviting oasis that we enjoy every day. We recently had the pleasure of working with Conscious Environments to transform our backyard into an oasis of relaxation and entertainment. From the initial consultation on design (we used them for design and construction) to the final touches, the team at Conscious Environments exhibited unparalleled professionalism and attention to detail. Josh's commitment to customer satisfaction was evident throughout the entire process. He was communicative, transparent and ensured that our vision was not only met, but exceeded. Matt's design expertise truly set our project apart. He took the time to understand our preferences and tastes and deal with the HOA in our community. From the large spa with the waterfall and fire bowls to the pergola with BBQ island to the firepit and amazing grass inlaid concrete, this is a visually stunning outdoor space that perfectly utilizes what a smaller backyard is capable of. Even almost a year after our project's completion, they helped us with a few minor issues we needed to resolve. Talk about customer service! Competent honest technical professionals. There’s a reason that CE has so many five star reviews; their work is excellent and the price is fair. My particular project included remodeling every square inch of my lot including a new pool, patio, bathroom, hardscape, landscape, driveway, sound system, generator with transfer switch, lighting etc. I’ll bottom line it for you, hire them. If I had to do this project all over again, I would.

The Conscious team did an incredible reinvention of our entire landscape at our primary residence in 2015 and have always been available for ongoing maintenance since that time. Then earlier this year we had a major pool deck drainage issue at one of our secondary homes and reached out to Conscious to see if they could help. This was a very unsexy job, so I would have fully understood if they passed on this request, but instead, they gave us their undivided attention, designed an efficient cost-effective solution, and executed it in a timely manner. The result looks great and so far the new drainage system is capturing the rainwater perfectly. Josh, Matt, Dan and team are amazing and I definitely recommend them for anyone who wants beautiful work that is done right!

Conscious Environments made our small yard seem like paradise. We had tiles, a hot tub, artificial turf, and plants/planters installed with irrigation and it went smoother than we expected for a construction project. Their workers kept our yard clean even while they worked and everyone was very professional and friendly. Everything was straight forward and explained to us - excellent communication.

We found CE after a long search for almost two years. We completed our interior remodel with another company a few years back and the terrible experience left us traumatized. We were hesitant to make our next big decision. We initially met with Josh and found him to be easy to communicate with and he seems like a nice, honest guy. After meeting Matt, we decided to give the project to CE. We never regretted our decision. We had a complete outdoor remodel plus overhaul of the lap pool. It was a huge project. Matt was very responsive and answer our questions and concerns in a timely manner. He dealt with our HOA beautifully. Obviously, a project of this magnitude has unexpected issues, but Matt and Dan worked diligently and took care of them. CE did an excellent job of creating the landscape with our request in mind. We appreciate their professional work ethic and their quality workmanship. Our project was completed more than a year ago. They still respond to my calls and come out to help us to trouble shoot a few problems. I know Ryan left the company, but I want to mention that he is a wonderful person and a joy to work with. I rarely do reviews, but CE earned this 5-star rating. Hire them!

We worked with Conscious Environments for a lakefront pool and deck project at our motel in Tahoe. Josh was the lead designer and assisted from the early stage on conceptual drawings as well as technical, code-specific planning. Their team was a pleasure to work with - they were timely, efficient, thorough, and creative throughout the entire process. The pool and deck are now complete and everything came out great! We couldn't have pulled this off as smoothly without Conscious Environments and highly recommend them.

We had a very unusual need and Conscious Environments did an outstanding job in helping us meet it. We have an unusual, terraced backyard and the middle terrace was unused with nothing but weeds. They turned it into a beautiful recreation area with mini golf holes, a bocce ball court, a patio, and a play structure for our grandchildren. Worked with this firm at the start of the pandemic--9+ mos very large home expansion and outdoor living space project having Matt, Dan, and crew on our property every day. From the architecture design, to the landscaping, down to the conduit routing, and color coordination--they were top-notch in everything. They were very professional, were excellent at problem solving, and great to work with. Go with CE if you want it done right.

We had an excellent experience with Josh and his team. Our needs were just on the creative design side and the team did a terrific job getting to know us in terms of preferences and style. They considered every aspect including functional flow, aesthetics, HOA requirements and cost. They delivered a 2D and 3D plan which was the basis for all of our work (we are a family of do-it-yourselfers). And Josh made himself available for questions and vendors suggestions as we progressed with our construction. We would use Conscious Environments again if we have the need.

We used Conscious Environments for our backyard and pool remodel early in 2021. They were excellent. They came recommended to us by some friends and our general contractor. Josh and Matt (with CE) worked seamlessly with our GC. Their scope was overall backyard design and when it came to construction, specifically the pool and the hardscape. Our project consisted of a complete demo of the back yard to remove multi levels, relocating pool equipment, adding a Baja step and creating a feature wall along the back underutilized area of the yard. The best advice we received from our friends was to accept whatever Josh and Matt suggest, 'just do it'. They have an eye for design, layout, aesthetics, all while keeping an eye on the budget. On this side of the remodel, we couldn’t agree more. The entire project followed the projected timeline and within reason regarding the budget. There are always glitches in construction, but we never had the feeling like we were being nickel and dimed - communication was excellent. There were no surprises on the completion of the project.

If you like creative, awe inspiring designs, and high quality work, then Conscience environments is a great choice! We did a pretty large project (for us) and we couldn't be happier with how it all turned out. We renovated our yard around our entire house. We took a mud pit back yard and turned it into modern pool / hot tub combo with tile wall and water fountain. They did an amazing job of utilizing the space. We have a raised wooden deck on one side with a BBQ island, tile on the other side, cool white stones separating large tiles, and a sunken fire pit area with it's own fountains...and lush tropical greenery throughout. They finished 2 years ago, and each visitor we get is always blown away when they walk into our back yard...we see a lot of wives elbowing their husbands with that "we need to renovate our yard" look :-) We had gotten 3 sketches from other good companies, and they were all fine...but kind of stock-standard. We felt like it would look like every other house with a pool/hot tub / grill. When we met Josh, we told him we wanted something unique, and our style was kinda "south beach / palm springs Chic". He came back with some thing no one else had come close to. It was an easy decision to want that kind of back yard. It was during a rainy winter, so there were delays. We get that, but they could have communicated a little better about it...they admitted as much. We had some surprises along the way in how some items looked as they came to life, and to their credit, they were extremely accommodating. While they said our satisfaction was really important, it actually felt like that was the case. You can tell Matt takes great pride in what they do. They have checked in on us a few times since the project was completed, and even come back to help address some things that they didn't have to. They were not the most expensive, but they were not the cheapest either. But we were spending over $300K, so a few thousand more for that right product, and the enjoyment we get every time we walk outside is worth it for us. As I've told them, if we end of doing more work, or in a house that needs a yard project, we would absolutely call them. I might try and include something in the contract about deadlines, but we trust them...and as more people see our yard, they point out quality elements we weren't even aware of.

Too busy to care... We hired Matt and Josh in November of 2020 for a California room addition and overall facelift of our backyard. We finally fired them mid August of 2021 after giving them almost $12,000 for “concept plans and construction plans” . They disappeared when we had trouble getting plans through the HOA and charged us ridiculous amounts to revise plans (hourly like an attorney) when half of the revisions were their own omissions or errors. Josh never lost an opportunity to tell us how busy they were and made excuses after excuses for delays like his phone running out of battery, forgetting appointments because he was driving out to Big Bear for the weekend, moving offices etc etc. When I finally tried to pin him down he got defensive, swore and turned the project over to his partner. 9 months later once we finally fired them we they sent us partial construction plans (contract said 7-10 days). We wasted 9 months and 12k on these guys... Don’t fall for the slick salesman pitch they give you!

We found Conscious Environments Inc on the Houzz app. We were instantly impressed with the professionalism from our initial call and the follow-up meeting at our house. Josh and Matt designed a beautiful modern backyard of our dreams. We loved the 3-D video they created to help us envision the final product. Within days, they gave us a quote that was shocking to us (in a good way!). We received 2 other quotes (with inferior designs) from competitors, yet Conscious Environments came out 10-15% cheaper. So, we went with them and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of our life. They sent 3-5 workers 6 days a week that made the entire project completed in 5 months. They cleaned up after every single day they were there so our yard never really looked messy or dirty. Once completed, our front and backyards looked amazing. We got constant compliments from all our neighbors and friends. Our backyard is now an entertainment paradise for our family and friends. Big shout-out to Matt (the project manager) who always was courteous, informative and responsive. He always texted, emailed, and called back when we inquired about something. We couldn't be happier with Conscious Environments!

I would like to share our experience with Conscious Environments. We hired them for a Design/Build remodel of our backyard. The scope included Patio Cover, BBQ bar, Lighting and Irrigation. They worked with us refining the scope and budget to meet our needs, dealt with the HOA and city permits. Their design concept was excellent and met our entertainment goals. Our project consisted of removal & replacement of all decking, replacement of Pebbletec in pool, and re-landscaping. We are VERY pleased with our how front yard makeover (plus new front deck) turned out! We absolutely LOVE our new space and how it flows from the inside of our home into our beautiful deck and front yard. It was even featured in a magazine! All materials arrived before the project started and the crew arrived on time every day and worked hard. The logistics were very well done and everything moved pretty quickly. Those elements of timeliness and professionalism were quite refreshing. In addition we had a few small issues after the project was completed and Conscious Environments did not hesitate to send someone out to get them fixed and ensure we were satisfied. The only reason we give 4 stars instead of 5 is updates or alterations through the process could be a bit frustrating. But all in all we're ecstatic with the final product and level of customer care we received. We look forward to enjoying our front deck and front yard makeover from Conscious Environments for many years to come :)

When I started the process of looking for a contractor to work with for my backyard remodel I was determined not make the same mistake that I did with my inside remodel. Josh, Matt and team did a really nice job with the design for our back yard. We selected Josh because he really "got" our style, from our first conversation. They introduced ideas we hadn't even thought of, and were very professional and easy to work with. We love the design they came up with.

We contacted with Concious Enviroments after an extensivse review of contractors including design/build approach and just build only. We encountered Conscious through a review of the Houzz website. We were intially impressed with both the number of reviews posted and the comments about their work and service. We decided to use Conscious on a design/build approach where we could have the option of bidding out following the design phase. We liked the ideas and concepts of Josh Duncan on design. Josh is the owner of the firm. We felt it was important to develop a relationship with the firm that would ultimately do the work and was also very conversant with the design specs. Just bidding it out in our opinion would not afford us the opportunity to get a good feel of the firm. We did a complete redo of our front and backyards including hardscape and softscape. Key elements included a California Patio, stone work, concrete work, fireplace, BBQ Island, Water Fountain, irrigation, draninage and ligting. They also worked with us to develop a planting design plan that met our taste and fit the space and look we wanted. Key people on the construction phase of the project were Matt (project manager) and Dan (job superintendent). They were very responsive and cordial to work with and fascilitated with project issues that came up during construction. Our project lasted six months and the quality of work was high. They really know the landscape business. They probably are not on the low side of costs but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. We never second guessed our decision to go with this firm. Josh was always available to assist on issues and questions during the course of construction. Tom P.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience working with Josh, Matt, Freddy and the entire Conscious Environments team. I interviewed several contractors and selected Conscious Environments because of the high quality work they performed on my neighbor’s yard. I was so confident that they could execute my modern design plan that I waited an entire year just to get on their schedule. And, the wait was well worth it. I give them top marks for the overall execution of my design as well as the quality of the materials use in the project. The transformation of my backyard is breathtaking. Now when I step outside I feel like I’m on vacation staying at a high-end resort. The Conscious Environments team is smart and engaging, great listeners and were always solutions focused when issues arose. I can’t wait to bring them back to do our front yard.

We interviewed many contractors and choose Conscious Environments(CE) as they were upfront with costs and took the time to help us understand the fine details of our project. We had a large slope in our backyard, and we wanted to cut into the hill to increase the size or our backyard. We also wanted to open up our house and add a 12 foot sliding door that would extend to an outdoor California room with a fountain, seating area, dinner area, BBQ and play area. Josh spent a great deal of time with us working on the design prior to the project starting. After the project started Matt was great about guiding us on the materials to buy, selecting plants and finalized the details. CE was always available via phone for questions and quick to respond via e-mail. Their team also helped improved some items that were not in scope, such as reinforcing our fence and fixing some sprinkler heads. We could not be more pleased with the final result. The design and quality of work exceeded our expectations. We highly recommended CE and we plan to use them again to improve our front yard.

Josh and his team are amazing to work with. Josh spent time to listen to our wants and needs and then managed to transform our ideas into the perfect plan that fit our budget. Our house (4,500 sq.ft) was under renovation concurrently and Josh managed both the exterior and interior job extremely well with his team. Just like any construction projects, we had our share of hitches along the way, but Josh and his team handled all of them professionally, communicated with us constantly and finished the project at the deadline that we preferred. We highly recommend his company to anyone who value quality, creativity, and details in their remodeling plan.

Josh and the team at Conscious Environments worked to construct our back yard, which occupies about 2/3rd of an acre. We really enjoyed working with Josh. He’s responsive, easy to talk to, and employs an excellent team of people (all very respectful and polite; real craftsman). We built a large pool and an outdoor kitchen, installed wood decks, poured in place concrete walls and limestone patios and did a ton of landscaping. The initial quality of the work was outstanding, and everything has held up well for us over time. Josh was always available to listen to our concerns and remained solution oriented. He stayed on top of the issues, and all changes were discussed and approved first. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Conscious Environments on another project in the future. Five stars out of five.

We had a fantastic experience with Conscious Environments. Josh and Matt are great to work with and did a wonderful job of bringing to life the vision we had for our yard. We shared our "dream" photos with them and discussed drainage issues that we had. They captured and improved on the ideas we had. Plans were thorough and clear. There literally has not been a day where we do not receive compliments on the landscaping and we pinch ourselves that the welcoming space is ours! We feel that we have a room addition because we spend so much time outside now, very much worth the investment!

This is the 2nd time I've used Josh and his team at Conscious Environments. They truly met all of our vision. The project was a complete redo of the backyard - pool, covered patio with entertainment and cooking. The project took 9 months, but in the end I can tell everyone that I wouldn't change a thing. We have already spent more time in our backyard since the completion over 3 months than we did in the first 3 years of being in our house. We have referred Conscious Environments to several others who have seen our year.

Josh and team did a terrific design to replace our 1970's cracking driveway that included pavers, a 15' diameter medallion, and a decorative concrete boarder. Conscious Environments managed 2 different sub-contractors who did the demo and installation of the new. Everyone was responsive for any punch list items which included repairing broken sprinklers, etc. It looks great and we would use again.

Professional from the start. Josh answered our email within minutes. He drew up a beautiful design for complete backyard and some front yard renovation. Day to day contact with Matt either on site, phone or email was great; always made himself available to answer all our questions/concerns. Skilled workers on site 6 days/wk, pleasant to deal with. Project included stone fireplace, water feature, outdoor room, paver flooring, new fence and entry gate, trees/plants.

We hired Josh at CE to design a full, from scratch, back yard remodel including retaining walls, pool, BBQ, patio cover, fire pits, etc. Josh spent a lot of time with me to understand what our needs were, what our tastes were, and what our expectations were for the remodeled spaces. When he presented his design, it was exactly what we were hoping for and more! He understood how to integrate a "U" shaped back yard into functional entertainment areas that still felt connected. We hardly changed anything from his original design, it was so perfect. Josh was easy to contact, even after the design had been finalized. I reached out to him a few times during the build for advice and he was always available to help. We had a wonderful experience with Conscious Environments and would highly recommend them!

Conscious Environments hit it out of the park with our backyard remodel. We were looking to put a pool in as well as an indoor/outdoor area, BBQ, outdoor dining and multiple outdoor seating areas. In every aspect, they really understood what we were looking for and what our family and entertaining goals were. They spent a ton of time upfront learning what was important to us before we even put pen to paper. The team took into account our budget, the unique attributes of our property, the places guests would naturally congregate and designed a space that was not only great looking but also natural and highly functional. For the amount of investment we were looking to make we were very sensitive to the fact that we wanted something that would be used regularly. About one year into the completion of our project, we can confidently say that we are using it routinely, and the space has truly become an extension of our house. Without spending a fortune, they were able to design a space that looks like what we have seen in high end magazines. Conscious Environments really exceeded our expectations in various areas. Great communication and availability by great people focused on timely completion. The project manager and the site manager were consistently around communicating with us about what they were working on and what to expect. The site never once sat vacant, and we never felt out of the loop or felt that our thoughts were not considered. They also made the time to fit into our busy schedules to go pick out materials whether it was late Sunday or early in the morning on weekdays. The Conscious Environments team did a great job in this area which is so critical to the success of the project and how it turned out. We actually got to know the team well given their positive attitudes, high integrity and strong character. From Josh to Matt to Dan, we never had an issue trusting that they would get things done or that they had our best interests at heart. In the end they became like family which is so rare in this space. Further, with everything that could go wrong on a project like this, the six month project came in within one-two weeks of our actual completion date. A great accomplishment given the number of changes we ended up making throughout the project. Realistic, well thought through, value added recommendations. Given that we are not experts in this area, the Conscious Environments team really stepped in to recommend how we could accomplish various facets of our vision in a cost effective way without compromising quality and functionality. There were various times we got stuck with what we wanted and each time they came back with a way to accomplish what we were looking for. In each of these cases they hit the mark and the output met or exceeded our expectations. Full service offering. It was great to work with one integrated provider whether it was the pool, lighting, structure, plumbing, landscaping and other areas. We talked with various providers who were experts in one area but not another and offered to recommend "a guy" that would help us with that. The problem there was the disconnect that would create on how to implement the overall vision. By working just with Conscious Environments we were able to implement a roadmap from day one that encompassed all attributes of our design. Further, when we ended up changing something on one area, we were able to quickly flow that through across all the plans by just working with one person. Great creativity and focus on making things look right. There were a couple of things we wanted that this team had not experimented with in the past. For these items, they took the effort to research what we wanted, contacted the vendor, learned how to install each of the items and made it happen. They came back on various occasions AFTER the project was completed to help us get things right and to ensure things looked up to standards. It was great working with a team that was just as vested as we were in seeing things through and making them look right. In conclusion we are grateful to the Conscious Environments team for working with us in a highly collaborative manner to design a space that we absolutely love and use regularly. Our guests have been impressed with the outcome and how well it fit with our house's existing architecture. All in all, a great outcome! I hired Conscious Environments Inc. to design a small public garden area at the Santa Ana Zoo and they did an excellent job re-purposing materials from the site, utilizing existing hardscape elements, and creating a water conscious design. The project started with an initial visit from Josh where he took measurements and we established our expectations, goals, and budget. We informed Josh that we wanted a riparian feel to the garden and where we needed pathways to see into the exhibit. Since the exhibit was constructed from re-purposed materials like a used shipping container, it was very important to us that the garden also include re-purposed materials in the design. Josh followed up with a site design graphic clearly showing us where pathways, plantings, fences, and rock work would be installed. After approval of the site plan we moved into implementation and construction. The crew from Conscious Environments were very professional, respectful and QUICK! They said they would get our project done in our compressed timeline and certainly did not disappoint. The project turned out great and absolutely met our needs, I highly recommend this landscape design and building company.

Last year, my wife and I decided to finally renovate our front and back yards. The scope of our project included hardscape, landscape, drainage, irrigation, lighting, fencing, gates, patio area / structure...and a pool and spa--basically everything outside of the house walls. After our initial meeting with Josh, we were impressed with his professionalism and design ideas and decided to move forward with Conscious Environments (CE) for our design / build project. Josh and his team--including Matt (project manager) and Dan (superintendent)--were attentive from Day 1. Calls, texts, or e-mails were promptly responded to. Any concerns or requests for more detail at any given time were quickly addressed. The Design Phase of the project moved quickly. After noting the aesthetic / style that we gravitated towards, along with our likes and dislikes and needs and wants, Josh was able to translate all of the above into a cohesive and beautiful design. Moreover, it incorporated the visual cues and features that we wanted within the context of the function that we required as a family with young children. For example, with landscape and planting, CE considered the level of maintenance we were open to (very low) along with nature of our children's allergies (quite severe). Josh spent days working and re-working his planting plan to make sure that allergens were limited...while making sure size, texture, quantity, diversity, and appearance of the plants worked well with the overall design. This is just one example of many where CE took time to consider the details within the context of the bigger picture. The Construction Phase of the project began as smoothly as the Design Phase. Dan and CE's crew members were as conscientious as they were skillful. They respected the fact that the "work site" was still a home first and foremost--and made sure that we retained the functionality and accessibility that we (and our children) required. At the end of each work day, materials and equipment were neatly stored and the site was regularly tidied up. Unfortunately, soon after demolition and excavation...we were saddled with 4 months of seemingly unending and record setting rain, which caused significant delays. CE worked around the rain as well as humanly possible. There were many days when the crew would arrive in the hopes that the rain would subside enough to provide a short window for them to make progress. Whether that window was 1 hour or 4 hours, they made the most of it. More examples of when professionalism, courtesy, and conscientiousness collide: • Once it was clear that the rainy season would be last longer and be more detrimental than we anticipated, Dan and his crew set up temporary rain gutters and drainage to the street--not only in order to best spare the work site, but also to spare our family from unnecessary damage from water collection. • Matt was flexible to plan our conference calls and in-person walk throughs / meetings around my work schedule and unconventional work hours. Not an easy thing, but something that I greatly appreciated. • When Matt presented the lighting plan, my predisposed notion of "more is better," was met with Matt guiding me towards "less is more." And of course, he was right. • In the time since our project was completed, Josh, Matt, and Dan have each visited a number of times on their own accord--essentially to check up on the progress of the planting, how the various details came together, etc. Josh even added some additional plants at the entry pathway just to give it some added depth and color. • Nothing is picture perfect, despite the very best intentions! Every project runs into a snag or unforeseen circumstance. But, from our experience, CE makes every effort to be one step ahead of potential issues and tries to address them in real-time--or after the fact in a worst case scenario. With CE, the intention is always to keep the client apprised of situations as they occur and develop and execute a plan to rectify any mishaps. It was refreshing to work with a team who took as much pride in their word as they did in their work. Conscious Environments delivered a front and back yard that surpassed our expectations and did so while providing a uniquely positive relationship experience from the moment of first contact onward. They operate with integrity and professionalism and place an emphasis on clear and open communication They stand by their work and value the client relationship that is forged during the process. We hired Conscious Environments Inc to remake our backyard. The previous owner had left it a horrid disaster of a space, one that I had refused to spend any time in. Josh Duncan came in and listened patiently to what we wanted for the space, how we wanted it to be an extension of our home, an outdoor living space. It was a small backyard but with an open view, so I thought it could be somewhere my husband and I could relax. Josh seemed excited as well as attentive to all that we had to say and the design he came up with was perfect what we wanted. I had no idea on what kind of landscaping would be ideal for the small backyard we had, but Josh's recommendations were spot on. Matt was our project manager, and he too kept in touch with us the whole way. He and Josh were responsive to our questions and updated us as things moved along. I love LOVE LOVE the final product and they were also done within the estimated project time. We did hit a few snags along the way, as all projects tend to, but Matt and Josh resolved them timely. I also felt that Matt was very up front and honest about some of those snags when we hit them. I appreciated that a lot. And a bonus, two months after the project was done, one of the vine plants we chose succumbed to a darn aphid infestation, and Josh replaced it for us free of charge. Overall, I am very satisfied with my backyard remodeling project and would definitely recommend Conscious Environments.

My wife and I have been in our house for 6 years and made the best of our marginal front landscape. A few years ago we decided to do a back yard make over. Built-in BBQ, water feature, trellis, hardscape and soft scape. A landscape architect friend recommended Josh and Conscious Environments. The job couldn't have come out any better. From Dan the superintendent to Freddy cement mason all the guys did a fantastic job. We still use Conscious Environments for our water feature. We hired Conscious Environments and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a full service landscape design company. We had a challenging and unique property. We're on a bluff (hill) at the end of a cup-de-sac, on a pie shaped lot. Conscious Environments designed the entire landscape plan, front, back and sides. We ended up with way more than we expected in the space given to work with and couldn't be any happier with how things turned out. It's a pinch me moment, still, two years and counting later.

We are so thankful to have been able to work with Josh and his crew. We live in a very dry rocky area with a slope and every challenge you can imagine. They were able to transform this into my dream backyard. Josh came up with a beautiful plan after listening to what we wanted and looking at hundreds of pictures that I showed him. They say that the best predictor of the future is the past. I interviewed three pool contractors, but chose Conscious Environments due to their portfolio of gorgeous integrated landscape designs. I had a small backyard and I knew it would be challenging to fit a pool and still have space for entertaining as well as a green area. Josh and his team rose to the challenge and gave me as much time as I required to get to a final design. He also recommended utilizing pavers rather than decking for an upscale look. He provided the vendors for impressive planter bowls on corner pilasters faced with ledgestone. We are still working on implementing the planting design for the rest of the yard. I can't wait to see it complete. I will post pictures when finished. I recommend this firm to the discriminating client who desires a truly upscale look.

We have nothing but amazing things to say about Conscious Environments from the first meeting and beyond the completed work. Josh and his team have been professional the entire way. I cannot recommend a contractors work more than I can with this group. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. From design to reality, the details were not missed and it made the entire process easy and not stressful in the least. Not all contractors have an eye for design, but Josh does and we valued his opinion greatly. We had Conscious Environments do our front yard and backyard landscaping during a new house remodel. The backyard included a pool, jacuzzi, firepit and bbq. They worked well on the timeline of the general contractor for the house and the communication was spot on. There are many things stressful about design and choosing elements of your completed work but it was all done flawlessly throughout the process. Even after they were completely paid if we needed anything, Josh and his team have been very responsive. I have recommended them to numerous people without hesitation. We moved into a new construction this year, so we needed to have our front and backyards finished within a year of moving in. We searched Houzz for contractors within our vicinity, and were really impressed with the reviews and photos of finished projects from Conscious Environments.We hired Josh Duncan to design the yards and basically gave him a blank slate. We just told him our preferences are more towards the modern/contemporary look; we wanted a low maintenance yard with artificial grass, a raised patio area in which to place a fire table and dining table, bistro string lights to entertain at night, a water fountain, and a more distinctive concrete (rather than the standard brushed gray concrete that came with the house). He came up with a complete design plan, which included plants/trees for the landscape, and were really impressed and excited to move forward. Although the estimated price was more than we initially budgeted for, we loved his ideas and decided to go with his plan.The great thing about Conscious Environments is that they are a design/build firm, so the contractors are all "in-house," and you see the same workers daily. And these guys were meticulous- they had only 2 men do the tile work because they wanted to strive for consistency in placing the tile. They even broke out the tape measure when doing the planting, to make sure the plants were the same distance apart from each other. Whenever there was any issue, they addressed the problem right away. For example, it looked as if some of the flowers in the pots were beginning to wilt- so they made sure the timing of the irrigation was spot on by seeing how the plants/flowers reacted to an increase in water. When the LED string lights were installed, and we turned the switch off, the light didn't turn off completely- just dimmed. They came out the next day to fix it. We wanted a bigger plant in the main pot in the front yard for the "wow factor." They said no problem and switched out the 5 gallon for a 15 gallon plant. All in all, they want to make sure you are completely happy with the results of the project.I am a firm believer in the mantra, "you get what you pay for." The people in my neighborhood have obviously opted to go with cheaper contractors, who may employ undocumented workers, and have them work more than they are supposed to, so that they may complete the project quickly. This includes professionalism, as I see some of the neighbor's workers playing soccer in the streets and drinking beers. The Conscious Environments team has exhibited nothing but the utmost professionalism. We are proud that our project is the best in the neighborhood, one which is unique from all the rest. We were extremely happy that we chose Conscious Environments for our backyard project. Things felt right from the beginning. WE spent a lenghty amount of time just relaying our desires and wishes and they took them and made them better and then made them a reality. Our project included a pool and a jacuzzi and a waterfall, and extensive landscaping , a firepit, a bbq island, over 3500 ft of artificial turf, creating a switchback on our very rocky mountainous land and creating beautiful pathways. The scope of the project was broad, our terrain was extremely difficult because of the extensive rock , and the size and shape of our yard were all challenges and yet at each obstacle, We felt like good solutions were proposed that we were very happy with. When you hire them, you aren't paying for cheap labor, you are paying for quality of labor. We have other projects we want to continue to do with our yard and we think we will always come back to Conscious Environments because we trust them. I highly recommend this company.

Josh and his company can be depended upon for doing just what they say they will do. They may bid a bit higher than others, but in this case you get what you pay for. Clean work areas, professional job, reliability, and trustworthy workers. Josh even came back 2 years later to resolve a column crack that had just appeared, when I think anybody else would have ignored me. Would I hire them again? Absolutely. First group I'd call for a bid.

I tried hard to find a reference for a contractor, but none of the contacts given to me panned out. I resorted to scrolling through numerous companies on Houzz and found Conscious Environments. After several conversations and meetings with Josh I decided to trust him to redo our backyard - everything was gutted, only the shell of the pool remained after only a couple days of demo. When everything was said and done, we went from an outdated patio with overgrown trees and a sad pool to a contemporary space with hardscape, landscape, a new spa, remodeled pool and sun deck. Josh Duncan and his crew with Conscious Environments designed and built a wonderful, large, attached patio structure for us, as well as designed landscaping for both our front and backyard. He was always very quickly responsive to our communications and concerns. His workers were professional, skilled, timely, efficient, quiet, and clean. When there were some delays because of our adding other projects "while we're at it", he was helpful and patient. When these delays conflicted with 2 different previously scheduled social events planned on our "new patio", Josh and his crew worked wonders as they bent over backwards to have the patio party-ready. As we have entertained many guests on that patio over the past several months, we have received many compliments. Often their remarks are that it looks like it's a part of the original house. We had been in search of knowledgeable contractors who could help us with the final layout and building of our courtyard fountain. I am a General Contractor and have worked with Conscious Environments on a number of projects. This is where I discovered their innovative designs and craftsmanship, and decided I could use them for my own home project. My wife and I hired Josh to design a small addition to our home, a large solid roof patio cover addition, fireplace, entertainment areas, outdoor kitchen, & secondary freestanding garage and work shop. Being in the business I am always skeptical of utilizing another designer/ contractor as they may not match up to my own expectations, but boy did they prove me wrong. Concious Environments recently remodeled our backyard. They designed and built an outdoor kitchen, latticed structure, fire pit, putting green, new soft and hard scape. We appreciated their focus on our needs and provided input in areas where needed. The way my explains it, "They told her what she wanted" and they hit right on the button. We valued our working relationship with their foreman, Ryan. Ryan's attention to detail, professionalism, expertise and communication was above and beyond! He was always available to answer questions and provide feedback. He made a stressful time, not having a backyard with 2 kids and dog, feel seamless.

There were a couple blips along the way, but their willingness and quickness to resolve continued to make us feel comfortable that we made the right decision. Overall we would highly recommend CE and the only thing I would advise is to be patient with their process because it's worth it!

I hired Conscious Environments to build a temporary pond for my Koi. I was moving homes and our new house did not have a pond. Josh was able to send his crew literally overnight from the time that I called him. He understood that it was pretty much in an emergency situation and he was able to fit me in his schedule. Unfortunately I ended up giving up the Koi and never was able to build a permanent pond for them. If I had built a permanent pond, Conscious Environments would have been the company I hired. I was very happy with their service and quality of work!

I hired Conscious Environments to upgrade my backyard. I thought I knew what I wanted, but when I saw their computerized design recommendations I was sold on the spot. I had met with three other hardscape contractors and there wasn't even a comparison. Our project began with a complete demo of our yard (not an easy undertaking) and from there, Conscious started from scratch and built us a new spa, a built in BBQ and an amazing fire-pit seating area. Their team did all of the hardscape, the lighting, the planting, and even maintenance and follow up afterwards. We are so pleased with the results and would recommend them to anyone!

After searching for a year for a general contractor that could do custom renovation of roof eaves, stucco, exterior doors, and related activities in preparation for other subcontractors, I discussed the difficulty of finding a general contractor with my local Ganahl store rep. He suggested Conscious Environments for their attention to detail. "I struck paydirt !!" Josh' team understood custom requirement difficulties, had the related experience for the work, access to the needed resources, and came through on schedule and on time even when unexpected rain occured. The job involved high tech material replacements to the existing residence since building codes would have imposed extreme costs in all regards to any structure changes. For anyone that has a home built in the 1970's, this is the company you need for project consultation. One reviewer of this company was on target with respect to homeowner responsibility. You must do your homework regarding materials, service life, procurement, codes etc. To some extent you need to be your own engineer, designer, and inspector. What you learn will be rewarding, worth the effort, and will probably save you thousands in your budget.

Josh Duncan has put together an amazing team! He has a great eye, excellent design ideas and seems to really listen to the voice of the customer. We hired Josh to design our backyard with a pool, spa & hardscape, as well as give our front yard a face lift. Josh put together a fantastic design for both areas. The project manager he assigned to us was incredible. Matt Rodriquez was more than responsive to any item that came up; big or small - he stayed on top of things, handled any and all issues as they came up, and made sure we were happy with the end result each step of the way. The entire team was all top notch. Everyone seemed to really care about delivering the best job possible. It's been several months since completion of our job and Matt recently made a trip out to check on the plantings. This last week some workers appeared to replace some of the plants that were not doing well. I would highly recommend Josh and his team. We love the way our project turned out and have received numerous compliments on what an excellent, quality job they did.

All the employees of Josh's at Conscious Environments, Inc. became like part of the family. They were professional, knowledgeable, neat and a joy and fun to work with. They designed both the back and front yards of our home. Both areas turned out fantastic and to this day family and friends comment how beautiful both the hard scape and landscape is. And as the trees, plants and flowers have grown the backyard in particular is a relaxing oasis. My husband and I would highly recommend their expertise in design and of the execution of the design. From start to finish the team was available to responded to any questions, phone calls and emails in a timely manner.

Josh's team did our back and front garden in AV, by a strong recommendation from our landscape architect. They are very professional and organized in their bidding, scheduling and construction process. Their pricing is competitive for the high quality work they deliver, so you get what you pay for. They are pretty good at guarantee their work after project completion and still very responsive up to today. The only thing I would suggest if you work with them (or any other company) is to be very clear on the material you choose, do your own homework, understand the nature/quality of the material, so you would have no surprises; also have very clear specifications (even the shape of the tree) for your plants especially if you are picky about the look.

Both our front and back yards, which were designed by Josh Duncan, are works of art. Words can't describe the beauty of the pool, hardscape, and landscaping. The Conscious Environments staff did an excellent job of keeping us informed of the project schedule and always made sure they consulted us for any decisions that needed to be made regarding the project. We plan to hire them again when the yard needs updates and highly recommend them to anyone needing a professional design and landscaping service.

We hired Josh to build our complete back yard - pool, retaining wall, decks, fire pits, BBQ, and soft scape. We chose Josh on his promise of customer service. Conscious Environments helped me redesign and remodel my bathroom. The bathroom was built in 1959 and still had a lot of the original components. We had our front and back yard redone. We had some stone work done as well as a spa, fire pit, BBq island, French doors in the front and back, as well as a front porch. These guys did an awsome job. I have gotten so many complements on my back yard. We told them that we were having twins in 3 months and although it was a large project they actually finished early which from my experience never happens! They were very easy to deal with and accommodating. Although they were the most expensive of the bids I received I was relieved that they made me feel comfortable and the project turned out beautiful! Well worth the money.

Conscious Environments Inc. installed a complete backyard landscape which included a concrete patio, a patio cover, block planters, 100 feet retaining block wall that added approximately 1000 square feet of usable property to my yard, iron gate, a fire pit and they planted requested fruit trees and additional plantings. The contracted work was done on time, within budget and their attention to detail was over the top! I'm very pleased!

Conscious Environments did a partial backyard renovation for my husband and me. Josh Duncan and his team are highly competent landscape design professionals who quickly are able to assess the needs of the project, actively listen to prospective clients, and produce a quality plan for remodeling. His team is conscientious about budget, water conservation, and are experts at understanding the relationship between the designated environment, the desires of the home owners, and the art of beautifying the physical space. We have been very impressed with the creative vision shown by Mr. Duncan and his company. We expect to do business with them in the immediate future.

We did a major renovation of our front, side and part of our back garden, which included redirecting the front entranceway and laying stone; saw cutting around the edge of the driveway and laying stone; building six new pilasters out of stone--two at front entrance, two at side gate, two by spa; putting in a courtyard fountain and laying stone around it; building a huge spa; new Alumawood patio cover; new patios; new fire pit; new landscaping; new BBQ, and it all looks fabulous. We have quite a large lot for California, so this was a fairly big project. We met with Josh several times prior to starting the project. He drew up the plans for us, went with me to meet with the Architectural Committee in my community to review the plans, helped me choose all the materials including the plants, and really took care of so many details for us. We started the project in February and finished just before 4th of July which was about the timeline they had given us. The guys working on site were friendly, polite and very skilled. We had a few minor problems with the planters in the front and one of the tiles on the BBQ , but they stand behind their work, and came and fixed both issues for us without any problem. The only reason I didn't give them a five star review is because we initially had problems with the irrigation system, but eventually we did get this corrected. All in all I would highly recommend them for any hardscape/landscape project.

Josh and his crew worked to remove the dead grass, shrubs, and huge trees on my property (1 acre) and then replaced the lawns with artificial turf. Other areas were filled with decorative rock and plants. Some re-grading was done. They also built planter boxes and curbing. Communication was constant and very professional. Crews always arrived on time per the schedule and had a great work ethic. I was kept informed on all the project details and was involved on the decisions. The project was finished on time and right on budget. No hidden fees. After each full day of work, the crew cleaned up and put all supplies away in safe areas which was comforting for a mom of small children. I have worked with many contractors while building our home and Conscious Environments was a breath of fresh air. They follow through on their contracts and provide excellent service with a beautiful end product. In my opinion they are 5 stars and I would highly recommended them.

On May 5, 2010 Conscious Environments finished a complete back yard re-do for Judy and me. Complete meaning from the dirt up. The project included: *Large custom bar with built-in BBQ and utilities(SS sink, cabinets etc.) *400 sq ft patio cover and fireplace *Hardscape planters with seating areas, pedestals with flowering urns atop. *Decorative lighting everywhere. Professionally landscaped. *All structures are accented with natural stone facing - beautiful! This re-do is going on 5 years old and we enjoy it everyday. We needed the help of a landscape designer for our front and rear yards which were dated and not very functional. It was important to have someone who not only could design for us, but could also take the design from conception to completion. A one stop shop for us. Josh came out and we gave him a general idea of what we were looking for, in a word, a "Tuolomne" type of feel. From one word, he came up with a beautiful design that we loved. His team was professional, extremely skilled, and worked with us throughout the entire project. Project timelines were reasonable and everyone worked well with us. They completed everything in the plan from demo, grading, irrigation, multiple hardscape focal areas (some using our demoed recycled concrete), low voltage lighting and drought tolerant landscaping. I think the thing that stood out was how Josh made sure our vision was translated into reality. And, he was always accessible, which was important to us.

Josh and his team remodeled our back and side yards in 2013. He created a beautiful rock water feature replacing an existing spa. We also put in a putting green. He completely re-planted the yards and was good at choosing drought friendly plants with lots of color His team was always polite, hard working and fun to work with. IN 2007 Conscious Environments developed a plan for the North section of our yard using only native California plants and underground irrigation. The plan incorporated the capture of water during heavy rains; re-infiltrating into the yard. Terraced slopes using recycled concrete and railroad ties added to the look. The dry stream with waterfall adds interest to the landscaping. In 2014 we did the South Area, again with heavy emphasis on California native plants, underground irrigation adding raised planter beds for tomatoes, carrots, peppers, spices, herbs, and so much more. The two areas are so perfectly integrated you can hardly recognize that 7 years separate the two projects. I am convinced that this is because of the continuity offered be the Conscious Environments team. I've watched them work over the years. I have confidence in them and I respect their professional approach. I would ask them to bid on any new project I have. Oh yes I failed to mention - Conscious Environments also completely re-landscaped my from yard - beautiful - you should see it!.

We hired Josh to design our entry area and to add interest to the front of our home. Josh and his team came up with a beautiful design adding cut out windows to an ordinary looking wall, wrought iron gate, and balcony, and a fire pit that we use all the time now.
