Somerset County's Dedicated Architect & Building Designer
David A. Ewald Designs is a full-service building design firm specializing in the planning and design of distinctive custom homes and select commercial projects for discerning clientele. My commissions have included new construction projects, renovations, additions and historical restorations for clients. I like to specialize in the residential design of classic, time honored homes in a diverse range of styles. My design philosophy is deeply rooted in the historic traditions of architecture: classical proportion and scale, the balance of shadow and light, and the importance of the relationship between building, site and materials. I do not have a signature look – instead, I like to work with clients who desire a home that feels as if it’s always been there, and listening to their individual wishes. I have had the honor of receiving design awards by national associations for my work along with having work published in the “The Classicist” (The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art).

David did a masterful job designing our full basement renovation! We were able to remove numerous columns and really open up the space for maximum utilization. David showed us multiple design options which we never could have imagined. I cannot say enough good things about David's work!

After working with David, we quickly came to realize his great deal of talent and what a pleasant man he was to work with. Throughout several projects, David has showed a clear interpretation of what our vision was. Soon after hurricane Sandy hit, it was time to rebuild our shore house. Without hesitation, we turned to David with confidence knowing that he would complete the job better then anyone else. As if the storm was not enough of a burden to bear, the requirements for rebuilding were quite strict. David continued to step up to the plate and tackle any roadblocks with an open mind. The final product is more then we could have ever wished for in a home. He followed our vision of a shingle style home with an open floor plan and created something beautiful. We have been told that our home gives people “house envy” and we totally understand why! I would recommend architect David Ewald to anybody who is looking to create their dream home.

We renovated an early 1900's beach colonial from top to bottom, inside and out. The project was a full renovation of 3 floors including changing the layout of the 1st(open concept), 2nd floors (bedrooms/bath), 3rd floor bathroom addition, siding, windows and new deck. This was a lot of work updating every aspect of the house, but David's choices of material and style resulted in a design true to it's history, but updated 100 years. David was a pleasure to work with and met every challenge an old house can throw you.

David designed the plans for the renovation of the 140 year-old barn on our property. The barn is the future home of a fitness studio. We also worked closely with David on getting a commercial approval from our town land use board. His buttoned-up presentation skills and organized plans were an asset during our town meeting. His low-key mannerism and incredible creativity make him an ideal designer to work with - I promise!

Great architect to work with. He really knows his work and takes the time with you. He provides plenty of good advise and focuses on delivering a design that is both functional and cost efficient. Highly recommend him to anyone.
