We hired Zach to design our unfinished basement. Our basement is an "L" shape and we worried how well the flow could work. Design Your Basement was able to give multiple great layouts from the beginning. Zach was great to work with and extremely detailed with his drawings. So detailed that he provided enough information in his drawing that I was able to sound like I knew what I was talking about with the contractors and their questions. Zach even helped us find a contractor to build the basement and the prints allowed us to get multiple offers with multiple options. He was upfront from the begin with what we are paying for and what we would expect in the package. The only issue I had is he got slow in responding in the end, but he gave us the heads up that he was busy and looking to hire help. We got everything expected in the end and very happy with it. We would hire them again for our next project.

We are so pleased with the basement design we received from Zach. The entire process was very enjoyable and we really appreciated that great attention was paid to every last detail.

Zach was very easy to work with and was able to do the design mostly remotely after an initial site visit which worked well for our busy schedules. This review has been a long time coming, but we wanted to finally get it posted to acknowledge the amazing efforts of the staff at DesignYourBasement.com in making our basement finishing project a reality. We are in an older home, built in 1932, with a full basement that had many quirks, including low-hanging piping for our hot water heating system. Many contractors came through as we took on planning for the project, hoping that we would be able to come up with a design as we went along. Finally our frustration peaked when a contractor asked us to do our own measurements and tape off the location and size of the bathroom, location of the plumbing fixtures, etc. We were out of our depths. My wife started searching online and found DYB.com. I was very skeptical that this kind of work could be done from afar, but Sydney and Zach and the team there were truly amazing. They spent hours with us on conference calls walking us through taking photos and getting all of the measurements right for the unfinished space; they carefully listened to our goals for using the space; and they presented us with options for layout and design that truly never would have occurred to us. The final design we chose maximizes every inch of the space and has allowed us to do more than we thought possible. Their advice goes beyond just design deep into logistics. For example, I think it was Zach who pointed out that it's possible to convert hot water heat piping over to flexible pex tubing that can go up into the joists. That one suggestion made all of the difference in making the final design, look, and feel of the basement work. Of course getting that work done and coordinating the scheduling with all of the other work that needed to occur was no small feat, but we wouldn't have even gotten to square one without the team at DYB.com. Our contractor was able to use the detailed plans that we received from DYB.com to do every little thing that was required. We made a couple of tweaks here and there, but even that wouldn't have been possible without a comprehensive design to work from. And it was so awesome just to be able to pull up the plans on my phone while at the hardware store making decisions on materials and furnishings. We highly recommend DYB.com.

Zach and DesignYourBasement would get a 10STAR if I could do it! Great designs & ideas offered, 4-6 teleconference calls to dial in all of the details and blueprints that made sense to our contractors. Introduction call to final design was about a month in total. Would have probably been faster if my wife and I made decisions quicker. Zach provided feedback on cost, look, style we were looking for and made requested changes without hesitation.

From start to finish, I received amazing service and input from Zach. I am thrilled with the final plans and expect to continue using the company in some variation going forward. Although I live in Chicago, the property I am converting to an ADU is located in Denver. The 2 locations did not pose an issue at all. Zach initially came to measure and then we had online meetings, with numerous emails and texts to finalize the work. I couldn't be happier.

From the quote to final plan delivery, the team at DesignYourBasement was extremely responsive and professional, which led to a very efficient and successful design process. Where many of the vendors we looked at pitched “trust me” it will look great at the end, Zach and Jaron provided live walkthroughs of the design and modified the design during the three design meetingS to allow us to visualize the space.

I was truly struggling with the design to finish my basement. I knew my vision was not as great as it could be and that I needed an expert to come in, understand what I wanted and then give me options. I could not wrap my head around how this company would be able to do a remote design for us in Pennsylvania while they were based in Colorado, but consider my mind blown. Design Your Basement is a well oiled machine. From the initial contact to review their company and what they offered to the more intricate measurement and design meetings-this company knows what they are doing! They were pleasant all around and definitely qualified experts. Jaron was our designer and she took what would have been a boring basement to a true living space that we cannot wait to use. Zach's input and expertise were invaluable. The final plans and blueprints made the permitting process a breeze! Amazing is all I can say- don't hesitate to use them. It doesn't matter if you are doing the work yourself or using another contractor or if you are lucky enough to use them- the groundwork starts here and these guys will make you so excited for what is to come from the design! I discovered DesignYourBasement.com at the Denver Home & Garden show. They were exactly what I was looking for. I needed a design for my basement without having to commit to construction and I was willing to pay for that design. I didn’t want the pressure being locked into a company for both design and construction. Zach Hawkins helped me out and was great to work with. Price for this design service was fair & reasonable and he was very responsive. He came over and spent several hours measuring my basement and interviewing me about my vision for the space. Then we worked everything virtually from that point forward via online meeting services. After several iterations of adjustments and changes we finally settled in on a final version. He delivered the detailed construction CAD files that included electric, plumbing, etc. I’m currently using those files to get quotes for construction. I really enjoyed the experience and Zach worked out great for me. While I haven’t started construction yet, I will give favorable consideration to Zach and his company when decision time comes based on experience and having seen the work they’ve done in the past…top notch! I highly recommend.
