Emtek

After tireless communication through my sales rep Emtek continues to insists that an oil rubbed bronze door handle mounted on the outside should have extreme pitting, flaking, and deterioration after only 3 years. They claim this is a living finish. I understand what a living finish is and this is flat out poor quality. They clearly know that or they would stand behind their product, instead they hide behind the no finish warranty for products that have a "living finish". Shame on Emtek for charging the prices they do for poor quality hardware.

My suggestions for Emtek 1. Don’t sell hardware products that have a finish that wears off within a year to a few years (shouldn’t this hardware last at least 5-7 years?) 2. Do more quality testing of the products with various cleaning products and water exposure 3. Test the locking mechanisms of samples more often and improve the quality of any cheap parts 4. Have reasonable goals for your workers in your factories (which would probably improve quality and reduce errors) 5. Focus on offering products that tend to be highly favorable for your customers, and don’t keep selling products that are frequently returned or that customers have issues with 6. Review your data and do research (such as surveys or questionnaires) with your customers / potential customers Thank you.

With a 7000 sq ft home full of Emtek hardware, a keyed lock set to the garage failed with a bent latch. After calling customer service this morning. I was told to take it apart and see if I could identify the problem. If it was broken latch, the customer service rep said she'd be glad to send a new new one. After taking apart the lock and calling back in, I was told that since the unit is likely more than 2 years old, there are no parts available to send me and that I should go out and purchase a new unit. I asked for a replacement set and was told that prior to 2017, they have no parts and there was not a lifetime warranty. Emtek was purchased for our home because of a reputation of being a superior product with great service. After calling in and being given a run around about not being find old parts and then an unwillingness to send a new set, it doesn't make sense for us to purchase Emtek as a replacement. As a business owner and owner of multiple homes, it's unfortunate to see how a simple decision to go above and beyond and take care of a long-time customer will make a customer for life, or...lose a customer for life.

Total Lack of Customer Care. We ordered the Emtek Modern Barn Door Track in a 14" length. They tell you it will be (2) 7' sections joined at the center. They do NOT tell you that when you join the sections, the mounting holes in the center will be only 14" on center, not 16". This makes anchoring the second section in the studs impossible, and requires that you install a ledger board. This was not disclosed prior to sale. When we figured out a solution - order an additional 8' section of rail and cut it so that all mounting holes can be 16" on center, EMTEK REFUSED to sell a single piece of rail separate from a kit, then asked if they could be of any further assistance. Just know that while the quality may be there, there is a flaw in their design for joining 2 pieces to make a 14' rail, and they could not care less about the customer. When I contacted our retailer, they confirmed EMTEK will not help. We are more than $700 invested, with unusable track, and seeking a solution from a different manufacturer. BE VERY CAREFUL.

I specified Emtek for a project about 4 years with over 20 interior and exterior doors. Now all the exterior door handels are literally falling apart. The o-rings are mad out of plastic. I had 2 different locksmiths coming out to fix and they can't even fix it. They called Emtek to get replacement parts who replied they need to see proof of purchase. That's not what the lifetime warranty said nor is that customer service. We are switching over to another brand after we spoke to the locksmiths and a couple of door hardware specialist retail stores. Apparently quality has declined since they got sold a few years. My advise, stay away. Every door brand is now copying the others design but the quality is the difference.

Emtek is a great resource for reasonably priced hardware in a variety of architectural styles, colors, and designs. They have a quick turnaround time and have good communication and customer service.

We installed Emtek hardware when we renovated our home 17 years ago and everything still looks brand new. The quality is fantastic, the egg-shaped style we picked is timeless, and the prices were very reasonable. I would, without hesitation, recommend Emtek products.
