Sherwood Park Basement Suite! We had a fantastic experience with Four Elements. Their project execution and quality of workmanship was excellent and we are very happy with the final outcome. And all of them seemed to have our best interests at heart and prided themselves in doing quality work. We were looking for a company to renovate our older home that was built in 1942. We “interviewed” a few contractors and then Peter walked into our home. Fantastic job! Peter an his team were professional and very responsive to our questions and needs. Our Project Manager Andrew was very diligent, detail oriented, and made sure things were done right by their sub-contractors. Our project was in a high rise condominium built in 1980's and Four Elements did an amazing job in renovating the entire unit to make it modern and comfortable. As it was in a shared building, Four Elements worked effectively with the condo board in keeping disturbances at a minimum and made sure all shared areas were cleaned every day. From a cost perspective their initial estimates were within 4% of the final cost. This was a substantial renovation (~$900k) and any scope changes were clear and driven by the client to upgrade certain aspects of the home. Overall, cost was as expected which is a difficult challenge given the complexity of this renovation, and the availability of trades. From a schedule perspective the only barrier we encountered was the lengthy permitting process. 4-Elements took all steps required to accelerate this process. Finally, quality was exceptional. The trades were experienced, and the millwork continues to be the topic of discussion as people see the home. This was a Heritage home, so the attention to detail required to renovate a non-standard home speaks volumes to the quality of the trades and the overall capability of 4-elements to execute this work. We worked with Four Elements Construction to complete a fully integrated roof extension in our backyard which created a large outdoor living space complete with gas fireplace and outdoor kitchen. The results are incredible! Peter, Joseph, Andrew and the entire crew were professional, hard working, and courteous. The tradespeople that they use on their crew are second to none, and we were continually blown away by the quality of the work completed. Despite the challenges of COVID and the resulting supply chain issues, we were kept well informed while the project moved along. We were extremely impressed with the transparency of the accounting and billing of the job. Nothing was left to interpretation and every single invoice and receipt was provided for each and every element of the job, no matter how small. I have worked with contractors before who simply send an invoice with a big number at the end of the job, leaving you wondering what it really cost. This is certainly not the case with Four Elements and it speaks to their high level of integrity. We would highly recommend Four Elements for any project, large or small. We already have plans to bring them back for the interior work in our house.

We settled on Four Elements after reviewing a number of remodeling companies, to renovate our kitchen and baths. One thing led to another and we decided to renovate the main living room. From the time Peter visited us, our experience with Four Elements has been amazing. Peter never rushed and gave his own opinions and provided suggestions to make our decisions easier. The quote provided to us was detailed and transparent on pricing. The idea of having a designer is extremely important and Four Elements includes some hours as part of the contract. The design ideas that Michelle (Interior Designer) provided were incredible and creative. Her presentation of the design concepts made it easy to visualize the final product and helped in choosing materials, narrowing down tile, countertop, cabinets, hardware, lighting, and paint color options to make our choice easier. Andrew and Braeden (Site Managers) and the entire crew that came to do specific work were equally professional and gave us confidence that the job would be done right. As with every project, there were a few delays along the way and the project did take longer than expected. Some delays were avoidable but most of the delays were due to supply chain issues during the pandemic and led to better choices in the end. Joseph handled all concerns around the delays with professionalism and provided timely updates at each phase of development. It was a pleasure working with Joseph, Peter, and the team during our renovation. Trust and honesty are key tenets in business and personal matters and are built on what people (companies) say what they do and more importantly do what they say and we can confirm that Four Elements do that. We undertook this renovation project during the height of COVID supply chain constraints. While the project understandably took longer than previously intended the end result was well worth the wait. The collaboration Four Elements Construction maintained with Scott Arthur Millwork and other sub-trades kept this project moving. We are thrilled with the end result. A new front entry, new fireplace and surround, refinished floors, and all three bathrooms updated to the newest technologies. Including under floor heating, two new showers (one a steam shower - love it), and a Bain Ultra tub, which needed its own infrastructure. While there were a few issues with trades, Peter and Joseph took all necessary steps to ensure the project was completed to the same quality standards of our home. We are now going to be staying for a very long time in our newly renovated home. Thank you, Four Elements Construction!!!

Four Elements is a well run and conscientious operation. Although our renovation was extended a few weeks due to supply issues everything else went well. Communications with our project manager was very good and the project well managed. The time lines and stages went as planned. Materials were delivered in good order with no major issues. Workmanship of the trades was very good. All changes and any anomalies were managed very well. The company owners were also very involved and checked in during the process to make sure we were fully satisfied. The original estimate was within 10% of final tally. We are very satisfied with our final result.

We had a great experience with Four Elements. They were honest, upfront and on task. Even though there were expected hurdles, they handled them without stress and delivered above what we were expecting. Each day they cleaned the site well and updated us on the tasks ahead and what to expect. They were patient with my high needs and attention to detail and ensured those needs were met. We took 3 years to decide who we would get our massive renovation done by and many quotes. We felt good when we picked them and still feel good about that choice.

When we decided to do renovations to our home, we got quotes from and interviewed three renovation companies. In the end we decided to go with Four Elements. Our goal for the renovation was to update and freshen the look of our home, add counter space and cupboards to our kitchen and change the jetted tub in the ensuite bathroom to a large shower with the caveat that it not look like a renovation in the end. We feel that we achieved the goals for our renovation and the kitchen and the master bath look fantastic. We are extremely pleased with the result. Joseph, Peter and their crew were great to work with. Peter, was always available when we had questions, or wanted to discuss options or changes. We kept a close eye on the renovations all throughout the process and Peter was fine with that and welcomed our input. Peter also worked very hard to have us back into our home on time as we moved into a condo while the renovations were being completed – and all of this through COVID restrictions. I had a full basement and kitchen renovation this summer, perfectly timed with the start of the pandemic. Through it all Peter, Andrew and their crew were excellent at keeping me up to date on what was happening, and when I could expect workers in my home. Because I was working from home they were able to give me a heads up when there would be a lot of noise which was much appreciated. They did a wonderful job helping me plan and connected me with an interior designer when I needed some guidance. I am so happy with the end result and can't say enough about the great experience-highly recommend!

We hired Four Elements to complete our basement. The basement was an untouched space (insulated only) and we had a list of things we wanted included in the basement development. Four Elements delivered on everything! The process was generally very smooth, with only a few brief delays (biggest delay was waiting for city permit- out of Four Elements control). Big projects take time to organize and we were given updates throughout the development. Joe and Peter are both very good natured and kind guys who genuinely care about the finished product. They are very transparent on pricing and give detailed updates and a full itemized accounting of the project at completion. Our basement is beautiful and we still can't believe that Peter and his trades were able to squeeze the huge tub my fiance wanted into the small bathroom space, without subtracting any of our other wants! Anyone who has seen our basement raves about it - but most importantly, having this beautiful area is such a bonus to our living space. It is very true that you get what you pay for in life, and this is no exception. There may be cheaper companies out there, but you will never regret hiring Four Elements. We had an amazing experience with the Four Elements team. We have dealt with other contractors in the past for significant renovations on other homes and have always felt stressed when working through our projects. The Four Elements team was one of the most professional organizations that we have worked with. Their organization, accountability, and openness with respect to our project put us at ease immediately. The presentation of the quote and the detailed drawings from the interior designer really assisted in ensuring the project turned out the way we had hoped. We never felt ignored and were always confident that any issues would be dealt with. The final review of the workmanship and review of the final bills was 100% transparent. We would highly recommend them and in fact have already. Our friends have been equally satisfied with the experience. We will use them again on our next project.

Four Elements completed our home renovation in early 2020. The reno included remodelling our kitchen and living room, refinishing our hardwood, new bathrooms, tiling, carpeting, painting, lighting. As we embarked on a whole home renovation, we thought we’d end up with a referral from a friend or family member. However, we ended up finding Four Elements Construction through Houzz.com. Based on the multiple outstanding reviews, we chose to include them on our shortlist of contractors to contact about renovating our home. Right from our initial meeting, I appreciated Peter’s kindness, professionalism, enthusiasm, and passion for home renovation and this project. What transpired over the next several months turned our simple plan (to renovate my parent’s 27 year-old house for our family) into our dream home. In fact, one of them I initially shelved as “pie in the sky” has become one of the most anticipated features of our home. They truly are collaborative in their approach to home renovation and our home is uniquely “us” because of it. As with many projects with such a large scope, managing time and costs became a challenge, in no small part due to the City permitting process and weather. Peter Russel and team are amazing. Peter patiently work with me on design; ideas on how to cut costs but maintain quality and a few scope changes. The work was done on schedule with respect for the space with an end result that exceeded all expectations. Peter kept his word with regards to budget; work, quality and schedule. Amazing company to work with. While friends were engaged in renovation 'hell', our renovation proceeded without any issues. Additionally, there was a minor problem a year later and Peter stayed true, honoring his warranty commitment.

We hired Four Elements Construction to complete a major renovation on our home for us. We wanted changes to our kitchen, laundry area, main floor bathroom, some living room upgrades, new lighting, new paint throughout the house and some new windows and doors. Initially Peter met with us a few times and provided us with a quote and a timeline of what we could expect throughout the renovation. We asked for his references and he happily gave them for us to follow up with. We were given good reviews on his previous work which made us confident in his abilities. Due to Peter's overall organization, presentation and reputation, he was our top choice for our project. Through the design phase, Peter provided ideas, understood and expanded on our needs and provided suggestions on what he thought would work well in our house. Peter kept detailed notes on our requests and gave us a list of suppliers that we were to visit. Everyone on the list was FANTASTIC to work with. Each was their own professional in their respective field and a such a pleasure to deal with. Due to Peters' quest for high quality work, Four Elements Construction has established a contact list of suppliers that is second to none. He really did a good job putting this supplier list together and it made the shopping experience easy for us. During initial demolition, his crew was efficient, safety conscious and respectful of property. Peter was a regular visitor to the project and provided ongoing supervision and regular updates about the status of the renovation. The first month seemed to be a blur with so much activity going on, but Peter kept a steady stream of trades coming through the house to ensure time was used efficiently. He set up meetings and kept us advised on what was occurring. We were able to approach Peter with any concerns regarding trades and he rectified the issue immediately. He took a proactive approach to safety, dealing with any concerns quickly. He also advised us of structural issues and the necessary corrective action. About halfway through the renovation, a new partner joined Four Elements Construction: Joseph. We saw him at the jobsite a few times, but generally he held down the fort at the office and made sure that things were running smoothly behind the scenes. Joseph possesses many of the same traits that Peter has and is an asset for Four Elements Construction. Although no job is without challenges, I believe that Peter tried his hardest to cater to the customer to make the renovation a pleasant experience. After the renovation was completed, he had a couple of deficiencies come up. I am pleased to say that Peter, and the warranty that Four Elements provides, does follow up any issues are rectified and ensure that the work is completed to a satisfactory standard. Four Elements Construction did a very good renovation on our house and we are very happy with the results. We would use them again in the future for any renovation needs. Peter was very professional, knowledgeable, prided himself on the finish product and provided good communication regarding the project timeline.

We were very fortunate to have stumbled across Peter and Four Elements Construction on the Houzz app when looking for someone to complete a home renovation. Before we purchased the house, we had Peter come check the place out, give us many ideas on changes that could be made, and provide us with an extremely detailed quote for the full-home renovation. Right from that point we knew Peter was very organized and the one we would choose to complete this project for us. We purchased the acreage and, not long after, Peter and his crews started on the demo. In the mean time we were able to visit each of the vendors to select our cabinets, flooring, lighting and the rest of the finishings. Peter sent us to vendors who were wonderful to deal with and extremely helpful. Sometimes it was tough to know if what we selected would be close to the budget that was given to us in the quote, but with help from these individuals we were able to stay basically right on budget in our selections. The only areas we ended up spending more on were added in during the project and Peter created change requests for this. Being that we owned the home and were able to check out the work that was going on at any point, we were incredibly impressed at how clean the worksite was kept. From that alone you know how selective Peter is in the trades he chooses to work with and always has them keeping the site organized and tidy. Another reason we would recommend Four Elements is that we were updated constantly on where the project was at or what would be completed that day/week. This was helpful in seeing how things were lining up with the timeline and it was nice to know which trades would be in the home and when certain noticeable changes were being completed. Overall we are so happy and impressed with the end result of our beautiful home and the quality of the renovation. We have had so many compliments from people coming through and cannot thank Peter at Four Elements (and all of his trades) enough!

Based on a recommendation from a friend, we hired Peter and Four Elements to renovate our basement in a newly purchased 1990-build home. Despite limited access to the home prior to possession, Peter worked with us to design and budget our renovation. The renovation was to fully finish and redesign a partially finished basement. It was a challenging basement, with drop ceilings and low duct work. Based on Peter’s suggestion, we cut a large window into the south facing wall. With a large terraced window well, this provides extensive natural light and makes the basement rec room feel more like a walkout. By expanding archways and hallways, a more open design makes it feel less enclosed than a traditional basement. The bathroom was reorganized to make a modern and functional space. Moreover, given the short timelines for our estimate, we did not know the basement was roughed in for a bar until possession. Peter worked hard to find cost effective but stylish solutions to allow us to add a bar with a live edge cedar bar top at a price we could afford. As with any renovation to existing homes, there were surprises along the way, and Peter and Ed (site supervisor) worked with us to quickly resolve any issues. Peter was also accommodating when we added additional requests (e.g. minor foundation repair, backwater valve, additional water and gas lines). Even after completion, Peter has been responsive to any concerns and has arranged for support from his trades even for issues not directly to the basement. We are very happy with our renovation and would highly recommend Four Elements. Peter and his staff are responsive, professional, and committed to quality work and client satisfaction.

We hired Four Elements to renovate our main floor with emphasis on the kitchen and master bedroom ensuite. I have been involved in commercial and domestic renovations and there are always issues. However, Peter was always available to correct them in a timely manner. The key to Peter's success is he contracts excellent trades which results in a great finished product.

It was evident throughout the entire project that Peter’s main goal is to ensure his clients are fully satisfied with the end result. During the design process Peter made some recommendations. We thought his insights were exceptional and agreed with his suggestions, and are delighted we did! Peter has a very strong and dependable group of trade people whom he relies on to complete the work. They all showed up on their assigned day, and time, and that they left the work area tidy at the end of each day. While there is always some confusion and mess, this was minimal during the entire project. Overall, we cannot say enough great things about Peter and Four Elements Construction. The project was completed in a timely manner. His method of estimating and keeping his customers aware of all controllable costs was excellent. We hired Four Elements on the recommendation of friends for a renovation project in our house. Peter and his crew were professional and organized. We made several changes and additions during the project and Peter managed to keep things on time and schedule while accommodating our requests. We had our ensuite bathroom renovated by Peter and his team at Four Elements this year- it was an amazing experience! Peter was very knowledgeable (which was a requirement as I had no clue what I was doing!) He gave his opinions as to layout and materials, which was very helpful. The team that he assembled to do the job were friendly and professional- wonderful as I had 2 small children that were very curious about the renovation! Our end product is a thing of beauty- reflects our style perfectly and in a functional way. If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing! As a side note, I was amazed at how clean the project was- Peter and his team were cognizant of the amount of dust and debris and kept things very clean throughout the renovation. They also had a cleaning crew deep clean not only the bathroom, but our bedroom and staircase as well.

Four Elements was recommended by my sister after her main floor, master bedroom and ensuite were completely remodeled. Peter and his crew were very professional, very clean and more than willing to accommodate any changes or touch-ups that we required. He was also able to finish the work in the time frame promised. The work provided was back splash tile installation, painting of extremely high vaulted walls, removal and reinstallation of hardwood floors and repair work to cracks in ceiling and walls caused by settling of a new home.

We hired Four Elements Construction to renovate our basement in our 1960s bungalow in Edmonton. The quality of the work is excellent. We have been enjoying the new space for a couple of months, and are extremely pleased. We've had a several visitors use the new guest room and bathroom, and all are wowed by how great they looks -- the contrast between the pre-existing 1960 tiki-bar basement and the new modern interior is night and day. We liked the work so much that we hired Peter to redo our upstairs bathroom and a few other small projects. Peter's work is guaranteed and he has been quick to address a few minor post- construction issues. He also has aligned himself with good and helpful suppliers and tradespeople, which made the process enjoyable. We would highly recommend Peter and the Four Elements team.

I recently had the pleasure of completing a basement development with Four Elements Construction. Peter, our general contractor, was a delight to work with. He is extremely knowledgable in every area and his professionalism was second to none. He has a unique ability to consistently be five steps ahead and catch issues before the arise, making well thought out changes leading to a superior finished product . Being a stay at home mom, my kids and I were home while the work was being done. Peter always kept my in loop as to who was coming when and what was being done. He also was sure to stop by everyday to make sure things were completed correctly and answer any questions I had. Furthermore, the trades he hired to do the work were all a pleasure to have around. Four Elements Construction's services exceeded our expectations! From design through construction, we are thrilled with their work and our amazing home! Four Elements Construction was knowledgeable, highly experienced, had a great attitude, and meet deadlines and budgets! Peter and all of his crews were friendly, tidy, respectful, professional, and meticulous! Peter is highly organized and knowledgeable. Our young family lived in-house through-out these major home renovations, and Four Elements took great consideration with scheduling, cleanliness, kindness, and professionalism. Four Elements worked very well with the interior designer we engaged, and a cabinetry company hired through our interior designer. Our Renovation Desires: Connection, Our Style, and Green Design. We wanted our small 1970s home to have more connection between the living, dining, and kitchen spaces, as well as connection to our back yard and basement. We wanted an update to match our style (modern rustic), better circulation for our growing family and for large gatherings, and to utilize products that are more sustainable and with less of a carbon-footprint. If there was one thing I would improve, it would have been achieving a more low-impact renovation. We deviated from this goal due to cost, timelines, as well as not clearly communicating this desire to the plumbing and lighting company, and the slate company. Ceiling & Walls: Non-load bearing walls were removed. The nail-in-place roof needed engineering. The ceiling was opened to replace a beam, hangers were added for joists, and joists were doubled-up to keep from bowing. Insulation replaced. Ceiling closed and entire ceiling was re-stippled. Windows & Exterior Doors: A large exterior window was added, roughly 4' by 5' in dimensions. The solid backdoor was replaced with a windowed door. Electrical: Extensive electrical work was completed: electrical outlet relocations, ceiling lighting relocations, additions, and retrofitting, feature lighting in new cabinetry and shower, as well as rewiring to code. Flooring: Carpet and linoleum were removed. Subfloor was levelled. Natural slate was put in front and back entries and in bathroom. Cork was put in everywhere else (kitchen, dining, family, hallways). Fireplace: Red Brick facade was covered with natural slate (random patterning). Mantel was replaced with live edge wood, hearth was updated with slate. Cabinetry was added under the hearth (sliding doors) and on either side of fireplace, including wood storage unit, slate counter, and entertainment storage and electrical. Custom fireplace doors were added. Bathroom: Gutted. New tub, natural slate surround including shampoo bottle niche, water-wise shower faucet system. New water-wise toilet. New bath vanity, including cabinetry, sink, counter-top, overheard cabinetry, bulkhead lighting, glass backsplash, new electrical outlet, shelving, and full mirror. Interior Doors: Replaced with solid wood doors and a set of bi-pass doors with mirrors at our front closet. Doors were stained to match cabinetry throughout home. Hardware matched all the hardware through the house. Kitchen Island: Updated with wine rack and glass hangers, toe-kick drawers, replaced stool niche with cabinetry, and replaced counter-top with granite. Paint: Walls went from a darker colour to warm white, save for the kitchen's sage green which was colour-matched for touch-ups. Railings: Gorgeous railings installed where walls were removed around back entry and stairs. Live edge wood for one railing top and a wood handle for at around the stairs.

Peter was a consummate professional throughout our master bath, master bedroom and main floor renovation project...from design to quote to demolition to completion and follow-up service work. As with any renovation there will be the odd hiccup. Peter was always a phone call or text away when we had a question or concern and he was immediate with his response and resolution. Peter puts the client first and ensures everything is looked after and done to our expectations. It's been over two months since the renovation has been completed and Peter is still a phone call away to deal with any little things that come up. That's the kind of dependability we look for in a general contractor. Peter will be our first call when we look to complete our future rents in our home.

Peter did a fantastic job on our basement development. He took a dark, ugly basement and turned it into a great entertainment and hang-out space. He was more than willing to explore any of the crazy ideas we had for items to include in the basement. The worksite was always cleaned up at the end of the day and all of the subcontractors Peter used were very respectful when working in our home. Peter was always prompt and respectful in all of our communications and was very open with everything that was going on during the project. Whenever there was a delay, we were informed right away so we were never left wondering what was going on with the renovation. When there was an issue with one of subcontractors, Peter had already dealt with it before I had a chance to raise the issue with him. We could not be happier with the finished product and how great Peter was to deal with. I would not hesitate to hire Peter and Four Elements again!

We first met with Peter Russell and Four Elements in the spring of 2013 for the finishing of our basement and upgrades to our ensuite bathroom. At the time we were having difficulties contacting our original interior designer; fortunately Peter and his team were patient and great at communicating with us to carry on where the designer left off. Our project finally started in the fall and Peter was easily accessible and attentive to our concerns and needs. There were a few delays along the way and the project did take longer than expected, but this is something that will happen with any renovation. Delays were usually caused by waiting for raw materials from distributors or availability of trades, but Peter was on top of issues as they arose and kept us informed. Our project was finished early 2014 and we were very happy with the work done by Four Elements. The craftsmanship was very good and Peter and his team were able to keep the costs within budget. It has been over a year and we are still enjoying our new finished basement and ensuite shower. Thanks Peter and Four Elements.

We have used Four Elements for 2 renovation projects now at 2 different homes and would certainly recommend the company for small to large projects. The first was a basement finishing project in 2014 - we started with an unfinished basement and roughed in plumbing in a 2003 home with Four Elements coordinating all trades to frame/drywall/paint/carpentry/electrical/plumbing/installation of carpet and tile. Our project was estimated to take 3 months and was completed within that time frame. We were minimally above budget (I believe it was a couple thousand on 30+) and was in part due to changes that we made as the project went along. The finishing quality was excellent and we were very happy with the completed space (family room, bathroom and small laundry room). Peter (owner) made several excellent recommendations along the way such as the type of lighting to use and was responsive to our comments/suggestions throughout the build. Our second project has just recently concluded and was significantly more complex as it was upgrades/renos throughout a 1960's home on all levels. We installed new exterior doors/window, moved a wall, created a pass thru, painted, installed new flooring, countertops, lighting in the basement, insulation, electrical, and furnace upgrades to name a few. Again, this project was completed on time and very close to our original budget (48+) and was completed within the 2 month time frame Peter estimated. We are very happy with the end results and did not consider using anyone other than Peter and Four Elements for this project based on how well our first experience went.
